you could try:
1.Unistall the game+FLMM(and if she want's restart-restart your PC)
2.Install the game(then copy the crack of course)
3.Install FLMM 1.3
4.Install the 1.7 Mod(in the dirictory of FLMM,only CF must to be active, all others mods to be deactiveted)
5.Install Patch 1.7a(Multiplayer) and wait for the "updates" to download , when the Multiplayer Button is active after the updates downloaded,go in the server and enjoy
Odd as it may seem, the instructions in the CF Guide will work, but sometimes the procedure has to be followed more than once. I had it working once without even recognizing it... 
Just search the forum for the CF Guide, and follow it exactly!
did you delete the leftover files after you unstalled it?
and get (CC cleaner ) to clean up your registry just in case something there is conflicting with it.
and make sure your download ant corrupted.
an idea:)
re-installing or uninstalling often does not help since some files remain in the FL directory (often write protected due to FLMM)
to delete the directory via explorer is the best you can do
there is one prob i encounted (not a biggey:P ) after you unstall CF then you put a fresh install of freelancer with the extras wiped out, (leftover files etc...) that the FL CF icon comes back in a day or a week when CF is not present.

not a mystery
Win does load the icons of a file once per session and keeps them in memory
when you delete FL (or uninstall it) the freelancer.exe is gone and a new one gets installed (with original FL icon)
when you now install CF windows still thinks the freelancer.exe is original and therefore takes the icon from the memory instead reloading the icon from the file
with the next start of windows it has to load the icon again... and since its CF now it loads the new icon
pure logic behind it... no bug
