So another year has passed by. As usual id like to have a look back at the last year and id like to start with a few stats.
Last year we have 500.000 visitors on our counter, today we have more than 780.000. 280.000 visitors in the past year.... hmmm the year before we had 300.000.
Decreasing numbers?
Nope.
In fact the numbers are increasing. Some of you will remember that SWAT got hacked in the past year and that I hard to upload old backups and old databases. That means the counter did drop by somewhat 70.000 visitors, not to mention that it took several weeks to get all scripts working again. In 2007 we also moved to a new more powerful server.
I easily could have added those 70.000+ to the counter but i simply dont like such manipulations.2007 was also the year where we broke many limits.
- 5000+ registered members on the 5th b-day. Funny but a very good result considering that in the first years of SWAT only choosen players were allowed to join this place.
- More than 10.000 forum threads.
- More than 100.000 (more than 120.000) forum posts.
- More than 100.000 downloaded copies of the Crossfire mod.
- More than 4300 members which are not male or female; I guess SWAT is well known beyond the borders of this world
Basically everything did increase heavily and the activity does speak for itself. Almost 70 posts per day (LR had a little more than half of this).
But the past year does not only consist of statistics. More important than this is what has been done.Crossfire
Blaster Universe
Starlancer: The Sol War
Starlancer Online
The new SWAT Portal
Lancersreactor ?!?That are the main projects of the past year.
Crossfire got several heavy updates for version 1.7 which helped to increase the performance and improved the gameplay. New concepts have been developed and introduced to the community as preview to Crossfire 1.8.Blaster Universe was released with several versions and is currently in re-development again. From what i have heard many new features will be included.
While Blaster Universe and Crossfire were developed by 2 small groups of developers the Starlancer Sol War project has been started as the first community wide project. Clans and Freelancers worked together in order to get this project started. Differences between the various groups of this community were put aside to work on this game.
Starlancer Online was a successful try to bring new life to the already dead Starlancer community. Mainly run by SWAT_XL-R8R and several other old Starlancer veterans this project at least offered Starlancer players a place where they can meet and play together. I have to say that for me some of the best moments of the past year were connected with Starlancer Online.
3 months ago this community decided to work together on a giant project. Very likely they couldnt even imagine that it would be that big when i introduced my visions. The rebuild of the SWAT Portal and the upgrade to a Scifi Game Portal. The idea was simple... we cover the games we like to play and offer information and downloads. That was the plan. Well - usually such kinds of portals are build up over years and usually such kinds of portals start with just a few games. We started with 14 games (actually more than 14 games since we also support the sequels) and we did the work of years in just 3 months. After i got the code for the page finished and members of the community decided to help with the moderation of the site I said to them "we have 3 months till the 5th birthday of the portal and Id like to finish the work on the portal till that date". We have added somewhat about 1000 screenshots, wallpapers, artwork, we have added hundreds of downloads, we have created many tutorials, we have added more than 200 content pages with information about the games, we have established contacts with gaming companies and we have reported about new games and alot of other stuff. Guess what... we failed. We didnt manage to finish the initial work on building up the portal, but we were damn close it. You can ask the moderators how much we pushed the work in the past few weeks and i think it was worth it.
Lancersreactor?
Why did i write Lancersreactor to the list above?
Simply coz for a long time SWAT has supported TLR in many ways. Administrating it, hosting a part of it and keeping it active.Ok what else is there left to say. The 5th year was a very good year. We opened our doors for other communities, modding teams and players. We supported many players. We had much success with everything we touched. The 5th year also was first year where we didnt have serious problems with other communities, no destructive wars, just good roleplay and too many discussions about how rp should be. The members of this community sticked together and helped each other especially in the past few months. I guess we are on the right way to a bright future.
Yes yes... i know im talking too much again
finally id like to thank all those which helped SWAT in the past year.XL
The moderators
The members of the modding teams
The coders
The server police
The clan leaders
... and all others which contributed work, money and timeHappy B-day SWAT and another good year
