@Hägar
Please check the following link: http://www.drachennest200x.de/…m/viewtopic.php?p=945#945
(the whole thread is about 1.4.2 - 1.5.5 performance decrease, I just discovered a possible reason)
i certainly do! thx very much...
ok i think we can test it pretty good here since we have enough ppl online to notice significant changes in the serverload
maybe the reduction of those arrays will also raise the performance
are there currently many different timers in the source?
i do a beta without that timer - as suggested by w0dk4 - as soon im home and send it to you, op! (the arrays will be done during the week...)
its 9 timers in flhook (crossfire version):
ProcessPendingCommands
HkTimerUpdatePingData
HkTimerUpdateLossData
HkTimerCheckKick
HkTimerNPCAndF1Check
//HkTimerCheckIfBaseDestroyed <-- this one is to be tested
HkTimerCheckResolveResults
HkTimerBanner
HkTimerCloakHandler
again haegar worked his magic powers and got us a new flhook that is working better and has more features than before
the flhook memory leak is history thx to w0dk4 and haegar and the server is running with a very good performance now (running the beta version of the new flhook)
the new (full) version will be online somewhen this afternoon
i also did some magical work and the general FL memory leak has been fixed aswell
yeah haegar and me are both mighty magicians and together we are known as siegfried and roy
noo ... noo simba... sit... sit... i said sit simba!!!!!!
"and now to something completly different"
no not really
the work on CF1.8 has been started.... no - no new work on features yet
i only was able to collect ideas, ship models and write down some concepts
before i really start working on cf1.8 i want to fix errors... vanilla errors and cf errors
so i did a very deep scanning of all files and got a long error log
a word document with more than 1600 pages which means somewhat about 30.000 listed errors in CF
after a closer look i was able to exclude 24.000 of those errors because the tool i used has a bug and partly reported shit (those 24.000 error reports were no errors at all)
520 ship related errors that were caused because those ships were from shippacks (and not created/converted by me) and not correctly build are fixed now
another 4.000 other errors have been fixed too
so about 2000 errors are still to be fixed
most of the errors are no real errors.... its mostly something like bad typo eg. "colour=200.0000, 239.0000, 120.0000" instead of "colour = 200, 239, 120"
basically FL is not much interested in such kinds of errors since the engine does reads those lines and doesnt give back any error outputs because of them
so why fixing something that doesnt cause probs?
the answer is simple... because if there is something that is not "standard" there is the chance that FL needs to calculate more than usual ... maybe a debugger needs to run to convert the data to "standard"
and all that calculations would raise the serverload
thats why im fixing it
i want to see 80+ players on the server when 1.8 is out
and i want to be able to say CF is the first 100% clean, bugfree mod
from all the errors there are about 15 which can cause real problems (crashes or console messages) but except 2 of them it wont be hard to fix those
CF1.8 is going to be the most stable and bugfree mod with incredible performance (compared to its size)
and the first 700 files have been finished
Oo
So much errors there. That means a lot of work...
Besides great work from you both (OP + Haegar).
I am sure the next release would be the best like you told, if most the problems you told gets fixed.
---------------------
You said that the floating point values, e. g. "colour=200.0000, 239.0000, 120.0000" would cause a warning - no error. Is it possible to change this into normal integer values by editing some files? -> maybe I can help/support you to do this... or if you need further help I am willing to help too.
yes it can be fixed that way
but i wont filter out that stuff now coz that takes more time than fixing it on the fly
Ok OP, I will sit . And yes the server seems quite well now. Thank you both for it.
btw. Blaster is doing the same error fixing atm with BU and after that massive content will be added to push BU
and if you think 30.000 errors are much... i scanned other mods to see if its good or bad and they all had much more errors (pure interest ^^)
smaller mods of the size of BU had something between 15.000 and 40.000 errors
big mods of the size of CF (yes there are some of that size) had up to 100.000 reported errors
so there is nothing to worry about
the main change to reduce sever load was that edit that came from w0dk4 (he saved me some hours of work on finding out which timer procedure in flhook caused trouble) - so thanks to him from me!
Outstanding news! OP is still the modder of the Decade [1752] Will we finally get infocard updates for CF 1.8?
wow, really good news guys
hehe, you are the best
Modding Magicians? Lol, why not? The stuff you two are doing is incredible - to us simple players you're often achieving what's seemingly impossible. A toast to your combined dedication and brilliance, and to all good things to come!

Good job OP and Haegar and woodka too¡¡
Its great to be part of this community¡
I hope we raise the player number at least to 50 average....that would be a good start...I mean solid members not visitors¡¡
Yea, we need more mercs. When you need one there is noone around .
Big Big thankyou to OP and Haegar. Master Magicians.
Big Big thankyou to w0dk4 for taking time out to help this community. Master Magician also.
w0dk4 if you ever want to come by and play please let any IOC clan member know and we will set you up with the very best ship, weps, equipment, etc...
yep, lag is gone at last, great job m8s
however, i bring you 2 new bugs for your consideration...
look at the last line of the console welcome message in this pic:
and the whole console message in this one:
i guess none of these lines should be visible...
i know, nobody reads console messages so these arent importat bugs, but we want the first bugfree mod out there, isnt it
btw, those lines werent displayed before the latest changes in flhook... seems related to a wrong array size or index... hopefully it seems no out_of_range_exception is thrown, so its not too serious (i guess there is a 10 where it should be a 9 and a 20 where it should be a 19...)
thx for this report
i sent a PM to Op. he knows what to do to make it go away (after all: it does not do any harm, it's just not looking good )
Well I hate to report the the lag is back. I had yellow lag on and off while I played today. The server crashed as well.
