    also...i dont think its right for admins to kill people (me...but saxon said they did it to him too). cause 1: i was in an event. 2: i had done nothing wrong. and 3: its nearly impossible to kill someone who kills you in 2 hits and has the best defences on the whole game.

  • May I kindly ask about about capital ships in SP? I have just finished the main story and earned enough to buy a cruiser (as I am unable to find where to buy a gunboat) and it comes without turrets. Where can I buy turrets? And why are their hardpoints not shown under weapons but under shields and thrusters icon?


    I would be grateful for any advice. Thank you.

  • the basic turrets r sold on the Crossfire docks in X3043.


    cap ships here have built in custom shields and cannot use boosters too.

  • Gunboats are sold in Telosis. It is better if you buy a Cruiser but then you will also need to arm them with more Turrets.


    btw I am shocked someone is calling lvl 3 shields the best defence in the game. :D

    thank you for your help.


    I have just tried to buy a cruiser but I am not able to undock. The ship gets stucked when undocking half in the station, half outside. Is there some way to undock normaly? Or shall I keep loading my savedgames till the ship undocks?


    EDIT I have managed to undock, but only with the Kusari or Rheinland cruisers after few loaded autosaves.


    However there i sanother problem. The ship reuses to jump to X-3034. It gets stuck at the gate, telling me docking, but nothing is happening. May I kindly ask you, how do you play with capitals if they can not jump?

    That guy is playing Single Player. Please read that he kept loading Saved Games. LP does rent Daedalus online but they do not own it offline :P:D :] [4] [7] [10] [11] [13]


    btw if you cannot dock with a gate press Escape and try again. Keep trying till it docks with the gate. It has happened many times to me online.

  • Sorry for playing the part of the Threadmancer and raising a dead post, but I just tought I needed to post here.


    Back in the day I worked with Chips on a mod called Evolution. The problem in that mod being, Capital ship pilots were a minority compared to fighter jocks. Granted back in the day of flaming when this thread was opened Sona's approach was less than subtle, someone responded with "Well then don't buy capships" which I find rather insulting. As a capital ship pilot myself, I find they are often WAY underpowered, but at the same time rediculously cheap. Under no circumstances should a battleship be destroyed by a single fighter...ever.


    Hell, look at the stats of a modern-day Iowa Class Battleship... it is LOADED to the teeth, and although it'll be chewed up by fighters if it doesn't have appropriate air-support, it's still more than a match for highly trained and well-equipped military personell (and I mean more than a match with 100+ Anti-Aircraft guns), which stands to reason they'd out-do unorganized and ill-equipped pirates or Freelancers. Then again, in all fairness, the Battleships should only ever be flown by members of the Houses which can afford them though. Show the capital ships some love!


    That aside... I did as suggested and did a complete reinstall of Freelancer AND FLMM, however, I can't seem to get the mod to launch. It started to, but once past the half-dozen intros, I CTD'd, then I deactivated it and reactivated, which it won't even let me reactivate it now.


    I have the Error log I received saved to a .txt document if anyone would like to take a look at it and decipher what the error may be. I got it working on my laptop, but not on my desktop, which is by no means lacking in horsepower.


    If anyone can assist, please let me know...I rather enjoyed my Single-Player experience on the laptop and am hoping to try multiplayer here soon...


    I guess if nothing else, I can just copy the folder I have on my Laptop over to the desktop and use it, but I want to get this figured out in the event I have to reinstall it in the future.

    ppl requested those ships and they got them... but that wont mean that they will become stronger... since it dont want see ppl in uber ships on my server
    BS always cause trouble... in every mod they do since FL was not designed to have proper physics and BS support
    and no matter how strong i would make a battleship... it would b no problem to kill it

  • Well, unfortunately I can't actually get to the main load screen to disable 3D sound... is there another way? It crashes before I can get to it...

    I don't imagine there were any savegames left, then again, I've never saved a game since I never play single-player on the desktop.

    Should I not mess with any of the options it gives me, and if it activates successfully, should I use that patch first or let the updater do that?


    As for Battleships, I understand your perspective as it is likely more trouble than it's worth to you to maintain Battleships since they are a hefty responsibility to upkeep on a server. I know that Halo mod solved a lot of problems by sizing down all the ships... so Capital ships were the size of fighters and fighters were itty-bitty, but that also made the stations and planets more to scale to create some really breath-taking scenery. Then again, Battleships are for servers with a lot of players that engage in regular House warefare though. They are uber, just...far too often people don't want to take the time to learn tactics or strategies to destroy them... it's all spray and pray with uber-weapons these days. I wouldn't say it's "crouch"ing... that's like saying a medic or engineer in Half-Life Team Fortress is a camping class and Snipers are the hard workers... Battleships are basically a forward support element but are also necessary in the battle against other capital class warships. They, like miners, transports, haulers, and fighters alike...have their place in the scheme. But I figure, if they're just going to be a 3HP targets moving at the speed of molasses blasting away with nerf-cannons, the players that wanted them aren't likely satisfied and would be better off removed all together... anyone who has flown them out there... are they that bad?

    to answer your question,


    no battleships are not "useless". though i do agree with you a bit on the power issue, (with battleships having more power because their much more expensive), i think it would unbalance the game a bit. unless they were to have some good way to balance them, i would not suggest incresing their power (armor, wep damage). the main thing i was asking for was to #1: make each class more even to the other ships in its class, so people who are a fan of a certain ship dont get dissapointed when a ship of the same class has so much more power then it. this seems to be ok with gunboats and battleships, but when it comes to middle class cruisers and dest's the kusari dest is WAY overpowered, i of course noticed this because im a fan of the liberty cruiser. many people but the kusari dest because of its unbalanced stats when they may, in fact, like the liberty or rhineland cruisers more. someone b4 tried to make a literall explaination about how kusari has more technology so their better....but if your going to take it literal, then we could just say that battleships get 100000000 armor and no shields and uber turrets and stuff...because they ARE, literally, supposed to be stronger.....dont try literal explainations to me. [12] #2 was to add more customability to the cap ships, again, not more power, but more choice of equips like turret types: primary, secondary, teritary, defence, flak, missile, and forward guns. i was VERY dissapointed when i found out you could not get the forward gun for the liberty cruiser. i mean, just look at the ship! the main thing you see in a liberty cruiser is the huge forward gun on the front, right? forward guns should also be added to all the gunboats, like in that title screen where the bretonia gunboat kills the kusari BS.


    also another issue that coms up in many mods is the fact that cap ships get hit arround like fighters. im currently working on this issue and swat seems to be "considering" it. [10]


    saying that "a capship should never get killed by a fighter. ever." does make sence, but would really unbalance the game. even though it does look silly for weps that cost 1 mil to be doing the same damage as weps that cost 10 mil. (ppc, battlsship defence) even though it dosent make literal sence, all ships should have an equal chance to beat each other. :)


    here are my ideas for the capship turrets if you wanted to know (valuse are rated one to five) :


    Primary: damage=4, refire=2, speed=1, range=4 (main anti-battleship turret)
    Secondary: damage=3, refire=2, speed=3, range=3 (main anti-cruiser turret)
    Teritary: damage=2, refire=2, speed=4, range=3 (main anti- gunboat/VHF turret)
    Defence: damage=1, refire=5, speed=5, range=1 (defence anti-fighter turret)
    Missile: damage=3, refire=1, speed=4(?), range=4 (main anti-fighter turret)
    Flak: damage=2, refire=4, speed=3, range=2 (anti-munition/fighter turret)
    Forward Gun: damage=5, refire=1, speed=2, range=5 (anti-capship/station (mission) gun [un-aimable])
