Missile spammers

  • i just went to the server and had 3 pvps against fluffy


    i did pretty will until i got caught by lag because of his massive missile spam


    he did use all hardpoints for missiles/torps


    1. this is no honourful way of fighting coz you only wait for the "lucky shot" while other players use real skill


    2. to play with such a missile char is a sign of 0 skill


    3. such a missile char does create massive lag (every missiles needs to be calculated by the server which does increase the serverload drastically)


    4. players that dont have a high end connection have 0 chances to fight against such players because they will have heavy lag and their cds wont work


    ergo: this is the abuse of an unfair advantage in fight which has negative influence on the server performance


    i dont want to see such a shit on my server in future... either we fight fair with the same conditions or the guy which plays unfair has to go
    the Serverpolice will report such missile spammers to me and i simply will delete those chars

  • OP what is the max number of hardpoints allowed for missiles? I have used 3 in the past and dont want to be in violation.

  • no offence OP but does that mean deleting the hades, the kamov, anyone who decides to create a missile bomber char? i myself use 2 types of cd, a sunslayer, a nemesis and dual mines. if they are such bad news for the server why have them? i dont deny that they cause lag, but the server has been sufferring with terrible lag for about the past 5 days, maybe longer. i notice it when more than about 20 ppl are online, and i have 4mb broadband connection. it didnt used to be like this, and i have no idea why it is now.


    i dont know of anyone that doesnt use missiles to a certain extent, be it a cd or pvp with a hades! most of the best fighters here use missiles in pvp. some ppl use them a hell of a lot more than others, but then they may not be as good.

    those naturally should be able to mount those torps



    the amount of launchers... well i cant say for sure coz thats different for each ship
    i would say not more than 3-4 - dunno
    but right now im at a point where close to remove all missiles/torps from CF

  • C'mon OP, take it easy, just ask the people who spam missiles to stop spamming, if they don't, give them a warning and a kick, if they still spam, ban them using the almighty banhammer.

  • I never realise missiles/torps cause lag as in many fights against 'spammers' it did not seem to be a problem.


    However, if more people is using them a long with mines, CD, torps etc then as OP says - the server makes calculations and this could cause probs.


    Not sure what the solution here is though,


    Maybe the 'spammers' should police themselves for the moment and we can see what haps.

  • I use only nemesis and mosquito and this seems to be enough most of the time.

  • I do not think we should rid the server of Missles and Torps. There would not be any counter to BS/Cruisers for a singe-a few fighters. It would take to long, etc...


    Also, while I do believe that missle spammers have very little to no skill, I don't think we have the right to ban then or delete their accounts...maybe kick them if their causing lag, but can we honestly kick/delete their accounts (unless their causing lag after repeated warning) for having a differnt fighting style....even if it is rather lame/fucking retarded...


    I hate Spammers more then the average guy as I was abused by that when I joined other servers.;..I have an abiding hate of them, which is why the most I use is a single Sunsslayer launcher....


    But I don't think we should delete their accounts.

  • I use a Deimos as a bomber char... everything except its turret is some sort of munition wep. Should I eliminate this char or can a bomber only be classified as such if it's a ship categorized as a bomber? It's ungainly to use in PvP, it's used as a heavy-hitter for my RP role against alien NPCs.


    The fact that such missile spamming is bad should strike a chord for people when it goes hand-in-hand with multi-million credit loses for ammo purchases. Under normal circumstances it's an act of idiocy to use 6 missile hardpoints in PvP just for the reasons of lag and cost. I hear the word "honor" tossed around a lot here and such opinionated garble is meaningless to anyone who does such things. Missiles were put in the mod and if they shouldn't be used however the players choose the hardpoints ought to be edited to prohibit such use. In my 9 months here I've only encountered a handful of missile spammers, and never a player that uses more than 3 slots for missiles. The abuses being described must be exceptionally rare...

    anyways, Ive played CF for a total of almost a year, and have been PVPing for over half that...and i have never wittnessed nor experienced anything such as what you describe. I dont think the players should be banned for spamming so badly, but they need tio be kept in check. I also dont think missiles should leave, because it would unbalance the mod, and make the cap ships almost invincible and impossible to take out by anyone who isnt nearly perfect. You could simply make a patch for the mod that simply limits missiles to the torpedo/CD slots, and a single lvl9 launcher slot. Simple, and it wont create any major conflicts about what players want. They may have one less missile, but it wont be a big deal.

    Crossfire Characters:
    (IOC){Dark_Angel} and any derivatives thereof.


  • The trouble with cutting back to the torp/CD slots and just a level 9 slot would be that a person's ability to carry missiles would be cippled. I like the concept though (50 missiles is way too much as it is), but if this isn't addressed with the utmost caution it will unbalance the mod. OP will make the right call, and one way or another the abusers of the weapon loopholes will be reigned in.

    you have a ship with 6 hardpoints, so you can mount 6 missiles!


    and missile spam is fun (when lagfree)




    oh and when you dont allow missile ships, why allow a ship with 1 missile? take 6 of the ships and you have 6 missiles again [4]

    i think that maybe there should be a little less ammo for missiles maybe, so ppl wouldnt (and couldnt) spam so much of them ^^. but totaly removing all missile luanchers from CF wouldnt be a good idea.

  • I think there is nothing wrong with having as many missiles as u want.


    However, if u have so many u lag other players then u are not giving them much of a chance to win.


    So where is the skill in that?


    If u like missiles/torps/cd then why cant u limit them to say 3 or 4 to stop lagging other fighters.


    If your good enough u will still win.

  • I saw myself. The Fluffy char has so many missiles in stock. It was shocking. I have never seen so many missiles in my life. I think Wie should also handle this problem as that player is a part of that clan. I saw Fluffy a bit later and I think I saw only 3 missile launchers so it is good to see Fluffy abiding by the rules.
    I also pvped Fluffy and found out that you can beat her with just two missile launchers and of course guns :):P
