  • Heya all,

I have a friend who thinks that the best way to know someone is to see what books are they reading. So, I was wondering if you are willing to share what has been occupying your reading time recently.

    I will start! :D

    "Life piled on life

Were all too little, and of one to me

Little remains: but every hour is saved

From that eternal silence, something more,

A bringer of new things; and vile it were

For some three suns to store and hoard myself,

And this gray spirit yearning in desire

To follow knowledge like a sinking star,

Beyond the utmost bound of human thought."

    ~ Ulysses

    Alfred, Lord Tennyson

  • Currently re-reading Sandy Mitchell's Ciaphas Cain series.

Basically, it's a series of Warhammer 40k novel about an Imperial Comissar with a rather peculiar modus operandi. The guy just tries to survive and avoid dangers of the battlefield, yet his attempts just result in him getting into even bigger danger that he ends up having no option but to overcome, saving the day in process. Jury's still out if the titular character is indeed a coward that just tries to save his own skin and reputation or he's actually a true hero that just sells himself short.

That series actually got me into WH40k. It's not as dark as most works set in that verse (relatively) and even has some humorous moments.

"Across the savage skies and through the fissures in the fields,
The rumble of the engines and the trundle of the wheels,
Through hell and horror trudge and yet their spirits never yield.
Will they sing of these forsaken pawns of war?"
-Miracle Of Sound, "Pawns of War".

  • I started Discworld series recently, following a recommendation, but don't like it much so far... Last book that really captivated me was Paustovsky's “Story of a Life”, especially volumes 2, 4 and 5 (Slow Approach of Thunder, Years of Hope, Southern Adventure) - they are beautifully written and filled with stories, emotion and wise deductions which changed my view of the world a bit.

Not really, you only get to know what he/she is interested at, not what he/she is as a person. The only way to get to know somebody is to spend some time with him/her. ;)

    But, alright:

    THE QODESH (SET-APART) WORD:
The Scriptures by ISR (aka TS2009) -> I also got myself a physical copy, I prefer physical over digital => call me old fashioned, lol
    Hebraic Roots Bible (HRB)
    The Hebraic-Roots Version (HRV)

Book of 1 Enoch | (by YAHWEH's Sword)
Book of Yasher (Jasher) | (by YAHWEH's Sword)
Book of Jubilees | (by YAHWEH's Sword)
Second & Fourth Book of Ezra | (by YAHWEH's Sword)
First & Second Book of Baruch | (by YAHWEH's Sword)
    The Book of Giants

-> The reason why these specific translations (or versions) is because I don't want pagan names and titles involved.
    ______________________________________

Other books are Design, Illustration & Art related because of my profession, I can list them too but they are quite a lot, hence why I just shortened it with "Design/Illustration/Art".

Apart from reading books, I read a lot of articles throughout the web to investigate & pursue knowledge, truth and useful information, I have no interest nor do I waste my time with fiction, at least... not anymore.

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    This is ten percent luck,
    Twenty percent skill,
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will,
    Five percent pleasure,
    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • Oh? So that really works? When I usually go to the bookstore and buy the books that I need, I am outta there, unless of course I order some (ok, most) of them online.
