• This mod is awsome I mapped a good 95% of it however, I find this system renting very restrictive for freelancers, too bad I had plans for a smuggling faction, but if I have to ask the almighty to get trough every new system then it's not worth the headache... :(

Moving on yet to another server, it's tough finding a new home...

  • I hate to say it, but people like this have it coming to them. First they don't think to read the system rules posted in the forum, complain about 'freelancer restraint' when they get shot for tresspassing, and whine about having to ask permission from a member of the clan that rents a system to pass through their system after someone tells them that that will more than likely keep them from getting shot at, and off a few KOS lists. I mean, come on, is spending a few seconds in game to type up and send a requisition to enter a clan system really that hard?

  • As a trader, asking is not the issue, being told no you can't pass is, having to add another half hour to your trip is a pain in the butt.

Like I said this is an awsome mod, I've been to many servers but this the first where players have a say in where you can and cannot go.

Owing a base or a planet is fine but owing a whole system gives some people too much power which they should not have because of abuse.

  • CF is very unique in its lack of territorial struggle and requirements for hard cash for owning anything. It comes as a shock to some people, but it's how things work here. Those who stick around long enough get used to it and don't mind so much.

  • Hey Poo,

I hope you give it another go.

There are rules for some systems simply because people pay for them and without that there would not even be a server.

I have played for ages and not having access to some systems is not a problem - when there are loads more to explore - its like not agreeing to play if you cant have the ball all the time.

There are rules, loads of them, and it is not always easy to stop and read them before you play - as you want to fly your ship right?

There is at least one smuggling clan online so talk to them or do it your way - but it can be done.

Actually - the rules are well thought out and hopefully been developd over time and if you take the time, you will see they make sense.

    Best wishes.

I think I saw you online the other day and it would be good to see you again.

  • Did I ever mention that the first week or so is always hardest? There's sort of an adjustment phase where you're overwhelmed with rules and maps and all sorts of information that you can't process at once. I promise you that if you give it a bit of time it'll all make sense, but you're the one who knows what's best for you, so do what you think is right m8 8).

  • I have nothing against renting or buying system there are ways around that, however there are key systems that lead to a lot of others and renting those makes it a pain to rp, I'm talking about such systems as the ones in between New-London and X-3043 unsure of the name.

Anyways I looked at the global server and there are very few very active servers out there, Freelancer seem to be finally dying so I'll stay...

Until a better online space game comes along that is and i don't see that happening for another couple of years as publishers seem to be too dum to publish their titles with MP in mind.

There are a couple on the way and all are without MP, dum dum dum...

    Sorry couldn't resist... :D

  • You are talking about the lovely system - Custodian - so close but try and touch .... it is a clan system.

The good BG guys are very helpful clan and will allow upto level 40 characters through their system if you ask.

That is a kindness on their behalf and we should appreciate it. Try the mod for some time and you genuinely wont even mind not have accessing it when you advance above level 40.

There are other ways there and part of the fun is finding that.

  • Nope I was talking about Nephele, rent that system or sell and you're cutting off a vital trading access to those other system, I'm not saying don't rent any systems, but like this one there are some that should never be rented or sold...

    My 2 cents... :D

I just wrote a reply about this very subject, under the thread titled "Clan systems update?" I wrote that reply before reading the latest posts in this thread. You can see what I had to say about it. I tend to be as thunderstruck by this as you, if not more so. Not sure I see the positive in a new clan owning an awfully vital system like Nephele.

  • What new clan? Owning Nephele?

Hey mate as far as i know no clan owns that system or am i missing something.

I thought a clan had to go thru a process: get server approval and pay before it was their system.

I did see some thread by a new clan but dismissed it cause it had no post by OP or other clan leaders.

    ?????

    Anybody enlighten me please!!!

Tassie, I sure hope you're right. Because this would seem to throw things way off-kilter. But there is a thread under Server News titled "Hello, here is new Clan" where VIS claims ownership of Nephele.

I too would like some official word from Op or server clan leaders or whatever other powers-that-be there be.

EDIT: Like you, Tassie, I also saw that VIS post the other day and thought nothing of it until [HC] Pale rider added Nephele to the list of closed systems in that other thread I started.

Anyway, I just went back and re-read the post from VIS and I am wondering if they are merely a new clan role-playing for "control" of Nephele. But here is a sample of the dialogue from their thread:

Non-registered clans and freelancers are not allowed to enter the System. Temporary exceptions to this rule
can only be given by =VIS=-Darkxx or =VIS==-Fireball-.

If they are in fact not renting the system, then such a declaration would seem to be an unprecedented display of audacity.

2nd EDIT: Here's a quote from Centaurian in that VIS thread, regarding their (ahem) "rules," that just about says it all:

I will acknowledge the system rules only when I see a VIS billboard at the entrance, or a console bulletin showing that Nephele is a clan system; otherwise, I'm with Gunny, good luck enforcing them....

So I think perhaps me and a few others are jumping the gun here. I think my latest conclusion is, finally, the correct one: that VIS is engaging in some extremely audacious role-play, at least on this forum. Without official acknowledgment from Op and the server clans, I think they are going to have their hands full enforcing such "rules."

As I said in the other thread, now I feel like an idiot. [wall2]

  • In fact, taking control on such an inportant system, can be considered an war act by other clans and freelancers, mostly depending on their behaviour on the system maintainance

  • well I think u just have to accept that Crossfire is the
"mod of long ways"... whether closed jumpholes like
Magellan-Leeds, or need for litres of coffee and
dozens of cigarettes on Altair trips, or huge detours coz
    of forever-closed clan systems...

I'm not sure what's intended with that, important
passes like Custodian or Nephele shouldn't be claimable
at all in my opinion, same for systems that sell unique
stuff, but on the other hand, they pay hard cash for
renting a system and therefore it's ok that they can do
with their systems what they want.

Anyway, just keep in mind that when everyone has to
fly more and more longer ways, there's less time for
fighting - the thing u actually wanna do when playing
    multiplayer shooting game :-)

  • Perhaps people along these routes owning systems should begin to toll people rather than block them. If there's a player your clan is friendly with, let them pass, if there's a player your clan doesn't want lingering, then take a toll (aka tax) from them instead of blocking them. That way people can still get around, but the clan profits from it's enemy's movements.
