Back from E3 | Unreal Dev Grant | Upcoming Beta Release

    Greetings Pilots,

We are back from E3 and it was massive! We have been showing EVERSPACE together with our friends from ID@Xbox in the Xbox booth. The two workstations were occupied pretty much non-stop and the feedback we got from the players was just amazing. Everyone loved how easy it is to pick up and play EVERSPACE and get right back into the action with better gear after dying.

    [heading]Early Access Roll-Out | New Patch |
    Gamescom, Insomnia & PAX[/heading]

    Greetings Pilots,

Time is flying so fast, we can feel Space bending around us! Since our previous update here on Kickstarter we have been showing EVERSPACE at major shows in Germany, the UK, the USA, and in Canada: Gamescom, Insomnia, X16, and Pax. Over 1,000 space enthusiasts took the chance to get their hands on the game and we got fantastic feedback on how good the game looks and feels even at Beta. It seems like we are well-prepared for the imminent release through Early Access, Game Preview for Xbox One and Windows 10, and GOG Games in Development.

    [subheading]One More Patch[/subheading]
To make sure the Early Access version runs smooth as silk and as bug-free as possible, we just patched the latest version on Steam to be tested by up to 10,000 Alpha and Beta backers one more time. We don’t expect any major issues to pop up, but you never know. Also, we added, tweaked, and fixed a few more things which haven’t been tested by a major group of players yet. The most noticeable changes are an all-new end fight in Sector 7 and some voice-acted dialogs, as well as a new rock planet (there had to be a rocky one!) and a new type of Outlaw station. You can find the full changelog here.

    The Rock Planet it is!

    The Rock Planet it is!

We also added some of the most requested options like turning off v-sync, more granular graphic settings, and improved support for ultra-wide monitors.

    [subheading]The Roll-Out[/subheading]
To make the roll-out as smooth as possible, we will email a Steam key to all remaining Space Cat backers on September 14. Please make sure to check your spam, promotion, and trash folders. If you prefer to receive a GOG key, please DON’T redeem the Steam key and just forward the email to support[at]rockfishgames[dot]com. We will send you a GOG key in return right away. Even though the console stretch goal wasn’t unlocked through our Kickstarter campaign we have been working together with our friends at ID@Xbox on a solution for Xbox One players. We will get a contingent of tokens which we will send out in exchange for unredeemed Steam keys in the same way as described above. Since we don’t know yet how many of the tokens we will need for media people and influencers we cannot promise to serve everyone, though.

    [subheading]Xbox One and Windows 10 Release[/subheading]
For the last two weeks, we have also been working closely with the Xbox Team at Microsoft to get EVERSPACE for Xbox One and Windows 10 through Certification. We did some further performance optimization, fixed all technical roadblocks for the Xbox One build, and are looking forward to Approval. However, there are still some store-related tasks open before we can go live. As UWP is all-new to us, we also need a few more days to get everything working as intended. We will announce a new release date on Xbox One and through the Windows 10 Store when we are closer to having all the boxes checked, presumably before the end of September.

Lastly, if you're already having fun playing EVERSPACE, please don't forget to like the game or even write a review on Steam. Either would be very much appreciated.

    Alright, that’s it for now.
    Have a great weekend everyone,
    Michael

    Update #27

    Sep 14 2016

Early Access Release| Launch Trailer | Pick Your Platform

    Get ready, pilots!

EVERSPACE will launch today on Steam Early Access and GOG's Games in Development at 10:00 am PST / 7:00 pm CET. We will support Windows 7 to Windows 10 (32/64-bit), and Mac OS X (El Capitan or later) from day one. Linux with OpenGL 4.0 will follow soon, presumably at the end of this month. The release through Game Preview on Xbox One and Windows 10 supporting "Play Anywhere" is scheduled for later this month too.

To make the rollout as smooth as possible, we will email Steam keys to all remaining backers a few hours before the game goes live. You will be able to activate your key on Steam right away and will be able to download the game as soon as it is live on the Steam Store later today.

    Pick Your Platform

If you prefer to have a key for GOG instead, please DO NOT REDEEM the Steam key but instead forward the email to support[at]rockfishgames[dot]com. All backers with Alpha and Beta access who have already received their Steam key can also request a GOG key by sending an email to the same address with your Steam key. We will send out GOG keys in waves in return after having verified that the Steam key is valid and associated with your email address. We will work as fast as possible but we cannot promise that everyone will get their GOG key within 24 hours. The deadline to request a key for GOG is September 23 at 11:59 pm PST.

As promised in our previous update, even though the console stretch goal wasn’t unlocked, we will be able to offer a limited number of Xbox One tokens to Kickstarter backers thanks to the awesomeness of our friends at ID@Xbox. As a reminder, EVERSPACE will qualify for the Game Preview "Play Anywhere" on the Xbox Marketplace and the Windows Store. The procedure to request a token for Game Preview works exactly as described above.

However, because the number of tokens will be limited, we CANNOT GUARANTEE that we will be able to fulfill every request. If we receive more requests than we have tokens to give away, we will prioritize backers with higher pledges first and then move our way down to Space Cats. In the case that we receive more requests from a given reward tier than there are tokens left, we will fulfill the remaining requests on first-come, first-served basis. The tokens will be send out when the version for Xbox One goes live later this month.

    Only a few more hours...

Thanks again for all your support and see you in Space very soon,
Michael and Your dedicated ROCKFISH Games Team [/contentbox]

New Player Ship | Difficulty Levels | Linux State of Mind
    Posted by ROCKFISH Games (Creator)

    Greetings Pilots!

We know it’s not the time to lean back, yet, as we have not reached our final destination with full release, but we think it is worth looking back at what we have achieved so far: Thanks to your fantastic support here on Kickstarter, plus over 5,000 backers supporting us through our web shop as well as additional funding from our business angels, we were able to release EVERSPACE through Early Access on Steam and Games in Development on GOG.com.

And we are humbled by the amazing feedback from the PC gaming community. Even after Valve changed their review policy on Steam, omitting reviews from users who did not buy the game directly on Steam, 89% positive reviews put a smile on our faces. The few negative comments are mostly about the lack of content – in spite of the fact that EVERSPACE is still in Early Access. Well, we are working on that and with today’s patch there is more stuff coming already. In total, there are over 50 additions, tweaks and bug fixes since the last patch.

    A New Player Ship

The biggest addition is the all-new Colonial Scout which you can unlock as an additional player ship. The first thing that you will notice is that the Scout is much smaller than the Colonial Interceptor. Therefore, it features extreme maneuverability and a higher top speed. So you can dash even better through dense asteroid fields or inside large asteroids or structures.

With the Colonial Scout you can sneak up on your enemies and hit them from a distance but better get out fast when things get messy! With the Colonial Scout you can sneak up on your enemies and hit them from a distance but better get out fast when things get messy!

You should fly carefully though, as the Scout’s hull is weaker and even a light collision could mean your sudden death. The ship comes with increased sensors, a cloaking device and a long-range shock rifle, amongst others. So it might be your best choice for doing some spec ops runs.

    More Difficulty Levels

We have also been listening to your feedback about the current difficulty level. For some players the game felt too hard or did not allow for enough exploration. Whereas for veteran pilots, who already played through the game several times, there seemed to be no challenge anymore. Well, we got good news for both types of players.

The new Easy Level will grant you more time to explore before the interceptors and warships drop in. It also features fewer enemies, jump suppressors, mine fields and natural hazards to deal with and doesn’t punish collisions as harshly. To make your life easier, you will encounter more traders and service stations and find more resources, too! But this comes at a price: You will receive less credits during your runs. Fair enough, don’t you think?

As expected, the other new difficulty level is geared towards the opposite. Even if you think the current difficulty level – the way EVERSPACE is meant to be played – feels like a walk in the park, rest assured on “Hard” that’s no more. To sweeten your pain, not only will you receive more credits but you will also have a higher chance of finding precious blueprints.

    Linux State of Mind

We know the promised Linux support is dragging along but we're making progress. We fixed the graphic glitches using OpenGL 4.0 and we see some good performance, too. We also got the mouse controls working in windowed mode but in full screen we still got quite a few issues. It turned out to be a lot harder to port the game to Linux than we originally thought, but rest assured that we are still working on it and hope to get the remaining issues solved, soon.

So all you pilots waiting for Linux, please stay tuned and the rest of you go and check out that Colonial Scout and try out the new difficulty levels. You’ll be discovering a lot more new stuff while playing, too!

    Take care,
Michael and Your dedicated ROCKFISH Games Team

    Shout Out For Lost Ember

This time our shout out goes to Lost Ember from our friendly neighbors at Mooneye Studios, also located in Hamburg, Germany. They cracked their funding goal of €100,000 within less than 48 hours and are currently at 201% with still 20 days to go.

Just watch their lovely trailer about playing a lonely wolf in a beautiful world uncovering the secrets of a fallen civilization and you won’t be wondering why it won the award for Best Games Trailer at Gamescom this year! If you are a fan of artsy games with a great story and lovely visuals along the lines of Journey and Abzu, you should really back this.

  • [heading]The Colonial Gunship | Perks Overhaul | More to Fight and Explore | Patches for Xbox One & Windows 10[/heading]

    Greetings Pilots,

The year is drawing to a close and we would like to make sure you have plenty of reasons to sink your teeth into EVERSPACE over the holidays. We just released a massive update with lots of new content, improvements, and bugfixes. Here are a few highlights:

    The Colonial Gunship

Go to the hangar and have a look at the all-new Colonial Gunship. You can immediately tell it’s a flying fortress with a massive hull and lots of firepower. It comes equipped with a fusion blaster and flak cannon as primary weapons, heavy missiles, cluster mines, scanning probes, combat drones, and an automated Gatling turret which can be upgraded.

The Colonial Gunship - armed to the teeth! The Colonial Gunship - armed to the teeth!

The fact that the Gunship does not have a shield generator and is much slower and less agile will keep combat interesting, especially when you find yourself outnumbered. It will surely come in handy that we raised the nano bots cap for the Gunship. If you’ve done Daredevil runs in the past then you already got a taste of the playstyle we’re going for.

    Perks Overhaul

Before jumping into the Gunship’s pilot seat, take a closer look at your perks. You will see that we split the perks into pilot and ship-related perks and tweaked the latter quite a bit. This increases the differences between ships and the replay value, while still retaining the overall long-term progression of your pilot-related perks. To differentiate the playstyle of the three player ships even further, we also introduced ship-exclusive perks like “armor” for the Gunship and “sensor range” for the Scout.

In the absence of a shield, smart gunship pilots invest in the Armor perk!In the absence of a shield, smart gunship pilots invest in the Armor perk!

We’ve also added two new pilot perks - “Trading” and “Diplomacy”. While “Trading” grants benefits at shops and service stations, “Diplomacy” increases your standing with G&B. With the latest update, G&B units will occasionally report your attacks, turning them hostile in the current and the next location. With the Diplomacy perk you can make them a little more forgiving and every now and then they might even jump in to the rescue when you’re outnumbered by outlaws.

    More to Fight and Explore

But the additions don’t end there. Look forward to new natural hazards, a new planet type, more structures, additional points of interest, a new special type of enemy and, last but not least, the first chunk of log book entries written by backers. There are some true gems to discover so we don’t want to spoil too much at this point.

New type of planet spotted!New type of planet spotted!

Patches for Xbox One & Windows 10

Unfortunately, we ran into a few issues under Windows 10 on the Windows Store. For the last few days, we have been working intensively on the matter together with our friends from ID@Xbox and we’ve got some good news: the performance issue has already been fixed by forcing the game to use a notebook’s external GPU when running on battery power. To avoid having the game close after 5 minutes while in trial, we simply disabled the trial until a new build with proper license handling is certified.

We already submitted new builds for Xbox One and Windows 10 which will feature the Colonial Scout as well as the other additions and improvements of the previous patch. It should go live within a few days from now, fingers crossed. We will also continue working closely with Microsoft on bringing the most recent patch featuring the Colonial Gunship to Xbox One and the Windows 10 Store, soon.

Keep dying in EVERSPACE and taking care in real life,
Michael and your dedicated ROCKFISH Games Team

    Shout Out For Shadow Tactics

Although not really an indie game, we think Shadow Tactics from our German friends Mimimi Productions deserves your attention. It is a Commandos-stlye hardcore tactical stealth game set in Japan around the Edo period. It will be released on December 6 but you can already check out the free trial on Steam.
