Available ship level vs available weapons level

  • Hello,

Obviously new to crossfire, but for the most part, I'm settling into this wonderful mod well. It's nice to have new life breathed into a classic, and I look forward to beating the campaign and getting to the new content. I had a couple of questions and I appreciate any assistance:

    1. I landed on Pittsburgh and noticed that the Ship Dealer was selling some Lvl 10+ ships for millions, but the weapons dealer wasn't selling anything more then a level 2. Was this a bug, a deliberate decision, or will more weapons become available after the main campaign is over? (Found the same thing at a shipyard. Battlecruisers for millions, but the weapons available didn't match the ship levels.)
    2. Once I finish the main campaign, how would I start the new content? Also, I'm playing 2.0, what I'm assuming is a new chapter in a long running content update mod. Can I assume that I'll be able to play all the new missions that have been created for CF? And will they all be available linearly after the Main Campaign is over?

    Thank you :)

  • Weapons and ships sales are fixed and do not change as you progress through the game. Only accessible locations and systems will change.
Commodities will change daily, dynamic economy. For quick level up between missions, sell escape pods on prison stations.

crossfire story starts right away after mission 13. Last break before that will be in vanilla campaign between mission 9 and 10 (decline mission 10, in case you need to buy something before you start CF story line)
There are also a few breaks in crossfire story, where you have the option to decline and go exploring.

  • So you're saying that the ships are there, but the weapons won't be? does that mean you need to trek halfway across the galaxy to buy the right equipment for you ship? That's weird...

I was just looking for information on prisons. Is there a list of prisons?

  • The ships are there - also for the MP version (both use a lot of same content).

As you might find on exploring ALL the stations even in the early vanilla campaign parts, there IS some ... new equipment to be bought .... aaaand to be found (not in stations but in places/objects seemingly abandoned ;) ). There you might also find the "proper" weaponry for lv 10 capable ships. (I`m speaking of Liberty-space already :) ).

For the "millions" needed : as said = "podding" or "farming (life-)pod" as it called is the funniest way to make your money.

  • Hi,

alternative would be to take away the Werewolf ( I guess this was the one in Pittsburgh), would you be more happy then? :) Be happy that you have a very powerful ship in a beginners area. Don't grasp for the full body when you are offered only a finger.

Btw this ship has a very big advantage even with "weaker" weapons: Its hull, the amount of weapons it can take and the power to maintain shooting with them! The last point is important since energy is a limited ressource. There are ships which can mount powerful weapons but are rather weak with firering them constantly. This is indicated at the maximum and optimum weapons level.

In the end this is just a very nice possibility for those who restart the campaign: Farm for pods until you have 10+ Mio and buy a nice ship and rush through the campaign instead of growing your gear with it.

Weapons come with time, and some weapons are not even sold but can be "farmed" or "found". :)

PS: If you want to you can also trade within NY for the money. There are some nice traderoutes within NY ( I acn remember Diamonds from Newark to Fort Bush to mention just one, also there is Rochester Base and Buffalo Base which might also offer non-standard goods for those which are friendly.). Also extending Range to California System might be good idea. Good traderoutes within those two systems!

PS: If you like a good ship there are some at Mactan base in Magellan system. Aiming in the beginning not for a VHF ( Very Heavy Fighter) but just a HF (heavy fighter) might be good enough.

See https://swat-portal.com/forum/…i/crossfire/ships/#medium, prices are much cheaper. Especially those Carriers which are acting as stations around Sirius provide with decent firepower for a small price. New London and connected Systems for example. Trident and Marauder are some examples.
