Hung at launcher

  • Hi guys,
    Sorry, I'm new.
I have installed the new CF2.0. Everything is installed and mod manager 3.1 shows the mod is activated. When I click to launch I get the launch screen but I don't progress any further. If I press single player or multiplayer I just hang there. The progress bar on the bottom does not move and the game doesn't start.

I have read some of the other threads regarding the launch exe properties and I think everything is setup right. I must be missing something.

    Thanks

  • I must be missing something.

That will be the most possible reason.

What OS do you have ? Win 7, Win / 64 bit,Win 8, Win 8.1 ("natural" or "updated")?
What security suite do you have (Norton, Avast, ....)

  • I have windows 7 64 bit
    my security suite is bitdefender
I had no issues with 1.9
I have attempted several times to re-install. I wipe the documents folder and everything. Clean install.

  • Are you talking about the drop down menu within mod manager 3.1? I did that and still sitting at launch screen with nothing happening. Not updating and not able to press single or multiplayer

  • no, Huor meant /Freelancer/EXE .. folder where you have installed game. This EXE folder need manually remove protection via its "properties" .. uncheck "read only" and press apply, it should make it.

  • Ok, I checked the freelance.exe file and I checked the freelancer.exe file in the mods/Crossfire 2.0 file. Neither one of these has read only checked. They never did.

  • Please, we meant FOLDERS :) ... if you open your Freelancer folder you will see there inside an EXE folder which need remove "read only" flag.

    (you have checked file)

  • Sorry for appearing stupid or something but we're not all techies!
I downloaded 1.9 and got it to work no problem first time I tried. 2.0 on the other hand I've not been so lucky.
Being a little more specific might help. You may think it's obvious but I do not.

There is an EXE folder in Freelancer and within the crossfire folder within the mod folder. I have tried both.

  • Choose the path where you have installed Freelancer. This is the main game directory. The mods folder inside the Freelancer Mod Manager\mods folder is just an intermediate directory that is required to activate the mod. You dont start the game from there.

Now back to your main directory. There choose the EXE folder, right click on it. Choose properties from the context menu, the first dialog should already contain what we mean. Down there are options available. If you see read-only marked either full or a tick mark, then untick it or deselect and choose Apply!. Overtake the whole also for all subdirectories if you are asked. Thats about making the EXE folder writable.

  • Thanks for the reply. I did exactly what you said. It's not making any difference. I still can only get to the launch screen and then nothing updates other then the options to link to the forums and such. I still can't pick solo or multiplayer and nothing updates. Frustrating especially when it all worked so easily with 1.9.

I did it all from a clean install. Wiped the documents folder and the files in regedit. Re-installed Freelancer, re-installed mod manager 3.1 and then crossfire 2.0. Went to Freelancer Directory and right clicked on the exe folder. Clicked off read only and apply. The mod manager shows the mod is activated. Unfortunately same problem at launch screen.

I appreciate your assistance. I really wish I could try it, but I guess I will just go back to playing 1.9 for now. I really love the game.

  • Actually CF 1.9 is unsupported now and you do use FLMM 1.31, right ?
I assume that you followed this guide https://swat-portal.com/forum/index.php/wcf/faq/#faqEntry-18 to the letter, right ?

Some AntiVirus programs quarantine parts of CF for no reason - perhaps check that.
Maybe you can upload a picture of what's not going on ?

  • Thanks guys. Nucnuc sent me a step by step guide that I will try as soon as I have a free evening this week. I appreciate the help.

  • One thing I should have added - as I came across it on a reinstall yesterda myself :

At least at the first time - run the "Freelancer.exe" file as administrator not from the desktop icon
created during the activation on your desktop but from C:/Programs(x86)/Microsaft Games/Freelancer/EXE folder directly.
After this also the desktopp icon should work.

Hope it helps you M8 :)
