New Event Idea

  • Many players have trader ships but we have no events for traders. I propose that we have a trader events. I have two ideas for events to test the skills of traders.

1: Trader Fight Night...PVP in your favorite trader ship. I will be slow but also very challenging!
2: Trader Run...On a good run say running cargo pods from new London to new york set a 1 hour time limit and the trader with the most fund at the end wins.

these ideas need a little work on the details but i think they are good ideas none the less.
    What do you all think?

  • there was APC tournament :) ... not bad :) .. can be given exact ships which can be used.

and for trading, hmm also nice idea, will think about this more tomorrow.

  • I also found an old thread about Trade Assault here index.php?page=Thread&postID=48853&highlight=Assault+Trade#post48853

Look for Sigma 19 and Trade Assault.

@1: ;) we allready know that, podman - SoulForge train fight
@2: really hard to controle i think, if all Universe is allowed. Anyone have any experience in this one ?

  • If you do this only as containers run (NY, NB, NT, NL, NY) then control is not so terrible.

  • There has to be some rules, or aclarations so that there are no unfair moves to the rest of the participants, which can ruin the fun.

For example, no usage of the banking system (something that wasn't in 2005 where that thread was made :D ). This is as a rule, as players cannot control that, but if there are risk of some players being untrusted, a GR could control that and give up on the race, if needed... hopefully people can be trusted after a single limitation rule, for the sake of the fun ^^

Only usage of trader ships, it could include freighters if people want, but they have an advantage against trains, so if this is a real Trader's run, then it has to be with the real/big trader ships, but still, it's up on whoever will run this to decide.

But if it's agreed on it to be a trader-only event, it would be these ships:

    Armored Transport
    Transport
    Large Transport
    Scouser
    Train
    Soulforge Train

No switching chars, as in any event, and in the race part, no killing eachother, mining, or whatsoever, like in normal race events. Even though disrupting lanes and killing eachother can be allowed, it proved to be a bad idea in the past as it makes conflicts between people.

This should be all, 3 rules in the end :D No using bank, only trading ships, no switching or messing up other competitors.

  • I think the only possible Way is a Cargo pod race like Forlon suggested. EM's do not have the Rights to scan ships/bank.
Maybe like a "stop and go" event - ex. Next stop New Berlin, GO ( Ill just have to be the fastet one, then  )
But this is possible i think or we just rework it later ;)

What do u think about this kind of event ? Will u join up to make it happen ?

  • I like Train run idea :) (not counting profit from trade included :D ) and if will be possible will join

  • Yes, Cargo Pods sounds safe. The EMs can have several ships/chars prepared for an event, for when it's needed, he can switch between his chars (no matter with EM status or simple chars like fighters) to keep an eye on competitors, when needed.

But I am not sure on a detail of this event, the second part of the race, is it planned to be a 1 way trip (but with no stops), for example: New York -> New London -> New Berlin -> Back to New York for the end line (all in that order), and the first to get and sell all pods at each place wins, or it's like "Targets are NY, NL, NB, NT, no matter the order, plan your best route, and do 1 round through all 4 targets". So one could choose to first go to the closest one, or the one with most profit, then visit all the targets once until getting back to the end target/line.

In the race, some people liked it in the 2nd method, as they have to think of what paths to get to be first, but it can be too complicated for other people.
At least for the first/test run, it would be easier on the fixed path method, and the most agile/fastest one wins, but dunno, up to you :D

I said against stops because what's the point in a race if everyone gets stopped and grouped again at each place(losing the advantages), it's like wasting time trading Cargo Pods in groups. The only stop would be the end target, and may the first/most profit one win.

  • I'm thinking of a point system ex.

    Race 1st place 1500 points
    Race 2st place 750 points
    Race 3st place 375 points
    Race 4st place 0 points

Commodity profit Sell-buy price in point (max is about 1900)
BMG is not allowed, as it is RP commodity

Cargo Pod is 100 points for 1.000.000 profit (must profitable Cargo Pods buy at Planet) - 0 points for wrong Cargo Pod (profit loss)

    Too complicated or ??

  • Uhm, so it would be both commodities and cargo pods ?

For it to be easier, it could be only with Cargo Pods as they are static, or, for it to be challenging, it could be commodities-only. Both at once can be unfair if the math is not correct and the points unbalanced, like, everyone would just go for the pods as they are safe points, or such. Or maybe this is just me for not trading ? xD

I also just remembered that part of the trading ships have no Cargo Pod slots, so... a commodities-only run could be challenging, and fair :D And give people options to choose from, different paths and such.

Anyway it looks like there are several unfinished topics and we just open new ones... so what's it gonna be ?

  • :D
    That's exactly the idea.
Figure it out pilot about Ship (Freighters only), Commodity and Cargo Pods or play safe if you don't know/have time ;)

So if there for ex. are 3 races from
    1. Planet Manhatten to Planet New Berlin (Bring the right Cargo Pod for sale on New Berlin and maybe some Commodities (taking risk of loosing Race) - Sum up scores
    2. Planet New Berlin to Planet Crete -||-
    3. Planet Crete to Planet New London -||-

So if you choose Armored Transport you will probably loose, as you can only get Race and Commodity points.
There's no obligation to take Commodity, just a chance of getting extra points. Just as the Large Train handles very different from SoulForge Train ( so in teory is faster in Trade Lanes, but I actually don't know that - we will c that ).
It might be a good idea to have a reputation to buy from planet, also ;)

Then I hope that the must clever trader will win 8)

  • Ok then, time to make the math of it :D

You said 100 points for each 1 000 000 $ from Cargo Pods, and how much for each 1 000 000 $ made by commodities ? It has to be more than 100 each, to fit up to 1900, and also to fit the risk of actually taking commodities instead of "going safe". That's the big risk, if it doesn't look balanced, everyone will just go safe, and it will be like a common race, first arrives, first wins.

Or maybe commodities can make more profit than cargo pods, that could balance it. It can also be like, your points system on who gets first to the end, apply also to who has more balance when arriving, top 1, 2, 3 and 4, much enough that a guy who arrived 3rd could win if he's top 1 at trading profit.

Also, to avoid people from studying every planet and trade routes, the targets/planets of the event, and their orders, must be unknown until the time of the event when everyone is grouped up :D That will bring some thrill, for everyone, not just those who have the whole morning to visit each planet and memorize what to buy and sell before the event. The dynamic economy helps, but the cargo pods are static, so it's better keeping the doubts of what's best.

  • Yes, that part was not clear  . I meant full cargo ex Alien Organism (max profit is about 1900 a piece) or water (max. profit is about 400 a piece) = AO is 1900 points and Water is 400 points.

Right, so if both have a Soulforge Train and 1st racer has water and 2nd racer has AO - 2nd racer wins ( both having the right Cargo Pods ) ;)
    1st racer would get 1500 Race points + 400 Comodity points + 600 Cargo Pods point = 2500 points
    2nd racer would get 1000 Race points + 1900 Comodity points + 600 Cargo Pods point = 3500 points
in first Race - 2 to go

Clear as ink, isn't it :P

Now I have to recheck some Planets for moorings, just to be sure.

  • So, is PodMan still around, to decide on things on the event, or will it be on other people's hands ?

  • Wow,
looks interesting and way to complicated for a simple old man as I. This humble soul will only plant the seed of a idea as for the rest, its up to you smart guys. call me when the race starts...
I would only count the pods and forget the other cargo but that's just me.
    PodMan/Lord Hekkera

  • Yeah, the pods was the simple version, but that is as good as going with no cargo and just racing with the trains, since there is only 1 thing to do with cargo pods.

It's not decided yet, anyway, so let's see which version gets more support, or so. :D

  • kk, we keep it simple then :pinch:

Only ships with room for Cargo Pods and then we race. And maybe a Train fight after-event :tomate:

Easy route ? as New York, New Tokyo, New Berlin and back to New York:?: or tough route with Edge World systems :?:
    Duration is 1 hour max.
