About Guns and their balance

  • Have a proposal, suggestion about gun balance.


    ATM the "vanilla"- Sirius guns are pretty uselesss for MP (means pvp) since almost everyone sports some of the "new" weaponry :
    Phoenix Project Cannon, Coalition Gatling or some of the Alien weapons,
    which are FAR superior to the SiriusSector (well known "vanilla") as well as AltairSector weapons(Meson Blaster, Laser Gatling, Pulsar Cannon, etc.)
    (wonder how the Coalition managed to survive before development of the Gatling :huh: )
    in range as well as projectile speed as well as damage as well as power usage per damage


    What I ask, if it wouldn't be possible to make the Sirius as well as the Altair weapons comparable to the "new" ones ?
    Not regarding damage or power usage
    but, ... perhaps at least regarding range and/or projectile speed ?


    And I think as the NPcs would be equipped with these guns as well, the "balance" of game-play would stay quite the same, for playing SP
    or playing on the server below "Role-Play"-level.
    (perhaps making the NPCs even a bit harder to tackle, but ... what we are HUMAN PILOTS for ? :D )

    In general: You are right. Need somebody with good weaponry here in Sirius, BUT only in special systems.

  • Well, balancing the new guns would still work, since there's only 1 you want to use against shields, and 1 you want to use against armor.


    The rest have less speed, less range (even worse :D), are not compatible with the guns above, and... ya... even if Kelyrd have more hull damage than any other, you can't use them with the anti shield one since it goes much slower and much less range, which ruins your targeting (and that red cross you see).

  • Actually, you can just mix kelyrd-rays(Hull) with w'ar-sys(shield).

  • Isn't it more about which guns are best for that shield, thing ?
    Ex. which guns are best for gravitation shields (Champion).
    I think the difference are up to 20% in gun effect, so the positron shield (Brigadine) might be better in some situations, depending on the guns used.

    That the different guns have different effects on different shields ... we should all be familiar with it.
    Was an essetial bit already in the first FreeLancer release ever. ... And that's how it should stay.
    There are mods where these differences are even bigger.(Ever tried Big Daddys mod ? Wow, hard one. I only tried, never managed to finish ^^ )

  • Gun Balance, nice! What about the Capital Ship Turrets? Will they be balanced too? So we can use Bretonia, Rheinland, Liberty and Coalition too? :) Cause everyone with only Kusari Turrets is a bit boring....

    Yeah i seriously think this is a good idea, actually for Newbies too so they don't quit This mod just because someone Base Raped him with War'sys and he isn't that good to move into Inner Core... I thought about at least balanced Main Faction Guns? That would be a good idea too if balancing all other guns is too hard, just simply balance the Main Faction class 9 Guns or even make them Class 10 :) <- This I just wrote without realy thinking lol it might be totaly wrong XD damn I m not by myself :hmmz:

  • +1 on the BS Defense Turrets balancing part. At least if the ones with less damage had more range or speed, it'd be balanced.

    Duno what u want??? CF guns is connected with CF story. And in CF we have plenty lv9/lv10 guns and missiles.

  • Well as I understand it, vanilla stuff will not be changed, ever :) - just learn to run (lesson 1).
    I would rather have perishable equipment then (expensive to keep) or highly illegal equipment (to smuggle :) and fineable )
