Technical problems

  • As you might have noticed there are some technical problems atm.
The Crossfire server got several crashs which I could not link with any technical server problems -> with other words somebody crashed it on purpose.
Last night we had a massive flood attack on the forum software which i fortunatly could stop.

And we have some major problems with some Portal features since yesterday. I meanwhile got at least the most important features and the admin controls working again but some features such as the ticket system and the quick reply are still not functional. I have deactivated the quick reply for now to avoid confusions and troubles when creating new posts.
The ticket system should also be back soon as it looks like it only requires to fetch the tickets from the database at the next update.

If you find more problems please report them to me.

Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

  • Just logged on with no problems encountered. Launcher loaded, downloaded patches w/no issues. MP started right up, server found, connected w/no problems. In fact it seemed to be loading faster than before.

  • Someone DDoS-ed it? Last night server worked ok during the time I was on, about 1 hour in duration...

  • I've been looking into this and the right way is to have the ISP to filter that kind of traffic.
This is highly technical stuff and there are many ways for them to it. If they offer this service at a fair price.

The "right" way is to filter the traffic, before it gets to the servers.
If ISP don't provide this service it is possible to install a program to filter that traffic.
That program is called QaasWall for Windows and is free 8). at http://sourceforge.net/projects/qaaswall-window/
Edit: QassWall is made for Windows 2003 Server (and XP) it does not work with 64-bit Windows. Some of the programs are 16-bit. Sorry about this.
Its a policy based software, and might be a good temporary solution. It filters ip adresses with more than 100 connection at default (it might be change to a lover one)

Another program for network analyses is WireShark, but its very technical.

PS. Atm i am testing Quality of Service (QoS) in Windows to get highest priority to FL CF traffic. More of this later, but looking good so far.

  • Server is already blocking it
and the forum has a security software which did prevent the worst

  • @OP ofc, never had that thought ^^
I was guessing that that the anti-cheat software took care of this and was pointing out that OS filter is better, as the software don't get "bothered" with DDoS packages :D

I am going to implement this OS-policy on all my computers, to prevent future attacks -just saying.

In the OSI model OS policy is layer-2 and application is layer-7. Its a big difference.

  • As another method is whitelisting ip,char and computers - maybe on forum. If not registered and whitelisted u cannot play :arghs:
This might need a program to test installations.

Just ideas, so don't kill me 8). This is Important, i think.
