Global warming myth? Hot or not?

  • Rex Nebular here. Posting from Canada...also known as "The Great White North"...Land of snow and ice...we live in igloos....

Well, not anymore. It's the last day of winter. Average temp for this date: 5C. Previous record high temp: 15C. Current temperature: 25C = 77F . Totally unheard of. Warmest winter day on record...period. Warmest winter on record...period. I used to go ice fishing on the local lakes in the winter. The lakes would freeze over completely and have 8 to 12 inches of ice or more...enough ice that you could drive your car out onto the lake and go fishing. Haven't done it for the last 5 years because the lakes are not freezing over completely anymore. Local ski resorts have gone bankrupt due to not enough snow. If this was isolated, it could be determined as a fluke or abberation. But each year it's been getting warmer and warmer and warmer. Anyone want to buy a Ski-Doo? Will trade for dirt bike.

    :D

  • This seems to be a similar phenomenon throughout the Northern Hemisphere.
    France, last Friday 6:00 p.m. 24 ° C, more than 10 degree than normal.
In the south of Country, on the Riviera?
Not a few kilometers from Paris ...

Rex you're right mate: Who can still say that global warming is a myth?

  • Here in Spain the weather and seasons are a "bit" fvcked up.

Winter comes after December, (where it should normally come after Octomber), last time in November we could enter the beach's sea, there is no spring at all (not noticed), directly from cold to hot sun in a matter of a day, then if there's some cold air front coming from somewhere the degrees fall like hell, then increase like hell from a day to another...

But well, being sorrounded by beach, and having mountains in middle of the country, it's still great in here. Except for agriculture, apparently this winter was of the most dry in a lot of time.

But still, I see it more of a climate change, as winters are colder here, and summers are hotter, more radical weather like in the desert. In the central-eastern europe (from what I can guess from Romania), it's more like this, the air is dry, the winter goes to -30ºC and such barbaric temperatures, and by summer the asphalt literally melts, women with those shoes with heels sometimes got sticked in the asphalt last summer. And there's no sea to cool up things and humidify the air.

  • Not to mention it only rain 2 times in the last 5 months in portugal. And it last not over than 2 hours. So water reserves at low and all soil is dry like a rock...
Most of Moutains didnt have snow this winter...and we are still on March...
2 years ago it rain from november to july. the area the beaches in the last 15 years decreased over 60% due advance of the sea...
So govermments may hide this, create historys that this happened in the past, but everyone knows the climate is changing...

  • Well, looks like the weather heard me :D , some other cold front came from somewhere as yesterday it was getting hot, and today it's cold and rainy, but the rain stopped by early morning.

  • No offense guys, but don't let the fact the sun is approaching it's solar maximum get in the way of "theories".(yes folks, global warming is still a theory) For the past several months, the Sun has thrown a record number of incredibly powerful CME/flare events of which most have thankfully missed Earth. The auras of the north and south poles have been seen very active as well and even seen farther north and south of the poles respectively of their usual area of sightings.

Whether you realize it or not, our Sun is by far the chief influence of global temperature over the planet, even over the other planets temperatures in the solar system! Even the Mars polar ice cap regions nearly disappeared during the last solar maximum some 11 or so years ago.

When the sun is most active, our planet can approach record temps. When the sun is in solar minimum, it can get cold enough here on earth to reach a "mini ice-age" where the artic/antartic shelves can even gain ice coverage on the caps.

Just wait, in about 5-6 years or so when the sun reaches solar minimum you guys will be complaining about freezing your butts off... :P:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

  • Global warming and temperature extreme is happening last 40-50 years. Just count tornado in USA per sezon ...

  • Errr ahh, not seeing how the percentage of tornadoes can even play into any global warming theory Husker, there have been years in the past where the US has had worse tornado seasons.

Is 2011 the worst tornado season ever? Historical tornado statistics suggest near record spike in a declining trend (KML, map, pictures)

Personally, we haven't been keeping records long enough on this planet to seriously establish any kind of reasonable trend that the planet is indeed getting hotter or just going through cycles.(which is more likely IMHO) You'd need at least several millennia's worth of data to scientifically establish such a trend.

IMHO, there are too many people that have invested their personal careers, personal lives and have alot of money tied into the theory of global warming. The fact of the Wikileaks release of documents and the blowing up of "Climategate" makes me think that alot of people in power want this to be accepted as a fact to further their agendas. This is a very dangerous precedent folks, just because it sounds legit doesn't necessarily mean it is.

Let it be know gents, I'm all for taking care of our planet, we all can do more to protect and preserve it, even my beliefs are that we are to be good stewards of what we have been blessed with.

But when it comes to scientists fudging data to promote their inaccurate views and political agenda, THAT I have a problem with.

  • I also would say its the solar maximum phase we are currently in. Solar radiation and flares are lowering our heat and radiation shield (aka atmosphere). If it is getting thinner and thinner it is getting hotter and hotter here. Not alone this but its one aspect as well. And it might also raise the power of hurricans and tornados - as those are based on warm winds or water and are much more powerful the warmer the media is. BTW a fear weeks ago we had very long freezing period and it was very cold, i am less concerned as we cannot do anything in short terms and have to take it as it comes...

  • Hmm, so all the fault is of the sun, our O3 absorber gases from common chemical uses like sprays, and "mini holes" in the ozone did due to the hundreds of nuclear and even hydronuclear bomb tests have nothing to do with it.

Then we can all keep going with the 4x4 car to take our diary from across the street, pollution and what else we do is not a danger for anyone ^^

  • look nuber rising...ocean is warmer an warmer. Each peak is solar maximum.

  • 2 thousand tornadoes ?

your cities must emanate a lot of heat...

we've barely seen a small 1 over here, it was over the water xD It also appeared on TV.

  • just consider the geographical location and surroundings within the US.
Then think about how tornados get "build" and the locations where they appear.
The US has like a isle for "tornados only", which is not necessarily filled with that many big cities (who could possibly produce such a big ammount of heat needed)

btw. you might have seen a hurricane, since tornados are on land and hurricanes are on water.

  • Global warming: fact or fiction; well before we come to any grand conclution we must first concider that this planet is still growing in size. Now a few things will occure do to this simple act increasesed sizmic activaty and planet shifting both will have a detrimental effect on the weather patterns on this planet. We have been told by our .... leaders that global warming is cause soley from polution- carbon immitions, cfc's etc., etc. blah blah blah, now these things may have a "small" effect on the weather but nothing compared to the growing and shifting of this planet. Studies in the north have proven that the North pole is moveing approximatly 1 foot a year, in 50-100 years it will be located in central Sibiria. So what we are thinking is global warming is in fact the weather pattern changeing due to the shifting of the planets serfise caused by the growing of the planet.

  • Hmm Joe, the Earth is supposed to decrease, not to increase, as it's core and such get each time colder ?
And I doubt that the poles shifting is something normal to happen, not this fast else it wouldn't be once at 40k years or somethig like that.

It was sarcasm Abras, the part about cities' heat.
    They don't affect that much.

  • look nuber rising...ocean is warmer an warmer. Each peak is solar maximum.

This doesn't even take into considerations of the regular rotation of the earth's poles on it's axis around the sun influencing said ocean temps, much less the El Nino/La Nina oscillation affecting our weather patterns here.

No offense Husker, but anyone can take a simple graph like that and think that the earth is warming without examining ALL data and having a insufficient size data sample.

Again, it's too little conclusive data, you need several MILLENIA of data from various sources besides tornado strikes to even get any serious, conclusive data of any global climate trend. Besides, the planet according to all scientific theory as well is at least 4.6 BILLION YEARS, half a century's worth of data is like a pico-second in that amount of a time-frame.

In the short term, YES the planet is warming, yes in time the planet will cool down again when the sun goes into solar minimum. Until we get several millenia's worth of recorded, observed data indicating a warming trend, we're all throwing darts at a dartboard trying to hit a moving bullseye.

  • Actually, it's a myth. The Earth have much more instruments of balance any disturbance of global climate.

    1. Mostly, the disasters of the past just were not registered becouse of technology (currently we have a highly sensitive detectors around the world, for example)

    2. The whole planet has the periodic lifecycle of anything: geomagnetic field, ice ages, even tectonic movements. Changing the phase is may be a problem, but not the end of the world.

    3. Melting the ice in some places causing:
    a) subsequent cooling of the air
    b) raising the tectonic plates under condition of decresiased pressure of the snow layers, and subsequently ->
    c) increased volcanic activity (ash and gas releases).

As you all must know, any volcano causing not the warming, but the local cooling becouse of ash and gases. The volcanoes are also releaseng much more CO2 and sulfur compounds than whole the humanity.

Strange, but actually the volcanoes are the "coolers" of our planet, not only "terraformers". And as you can see:

Global temperature (above ine the image) is increseasing, aswel as volcanoes activity (below in the image).

It's just a chaging the periods. But that changing is causing the global climate destabilisation.
Try to see the situation on all hands.
