Game crashes to desktop when I try and buy a ship :(

  • Hi, I've had a bit of a headache trying to get Crossfire to work. I finally figured it out with 1.8 but decided to just uninstall everything and wait for 1.9 because it was only a matter days till its release.

So I've installed 1.9 and the updater comes up and updates the mod, the intro's play and the game starts and I can do everything normally until I go to buy my first ship. I choose a ship to buy and then press select and the game just throws me back to the desktop every time. This is in single player by the way. I want to play through that first before I try multiplayer as I have never done very much in Freelancer before.

Any ideas what could be causing this? I'm desperate to play this mod!

    Cheers for any advice.

  • Does it happen with Any ship or you just tried one... if it's just one there could be an error to that ship's files, if it happens to any ship, it's... unusual.

Usually you need a certain level to buy a higher end ship but I guess that's not the case as you can't stay in a Starflier till finding those ships.

So, could yo ugive more deteailed info ? from what it sounds I don't recognize a clear issue and solution.

    Chars: [CFPD]Michael~something (x25), [CFPD]~SQMS~{[(store)]} (x3), [CFPD]xfer, Event~Manager~Michael, StarfIier~EM~Michael, Event_Team_2, [GR]Michael[SP] and a blueprint of [CFPD]Sephirothis

  • I tried purchasing all three of the ships that are for sale at Manhattan at the start as I also thought it could be just one ship causing the crash but its all three. The game minimizes to the desktop and I can still hear the ambient noise of the game for about half a minute then it comes up with that 'program has closed searching for a solution' box which just closes as well after a bit and then nothing.

I'm running windows 7 with UAC turned off(did that a long time ago). Tried XP compatibility mode and run as admin but still the same error. Followed the install instructions to the letter and everything seemed to go fine, the mod activated without any errors.

I just cant fathom it :(

  • thats clearly a strange problem
there have be no changes regarding the way ships get bought and you are the first one with that prob
    however
... when the mod was released there was a small bug inside one of the files which could cause this problem (a wrong typo with a shiphull entry)
but if you let your game patch through the launcher you should get every file necessary to fix that bug

  • maybe a reinstallation
and make sure that you dont install the game into the flmm folder (we previously had such cases)

  • Um, hang on..."Dont" install crossfire to the mod manager folder? But that's what it says to do in the instructions. Or do you mean the mod folder in mod manager directory?

God I'm confused again now, I thought I'd got this figured out :(

  • i mean when you install freelancer
the mod of course has to be installed to the flmm folder
but when you activate it then flmm should put it into the fl directory

  • hmmm dunno
can you post the eventvwr logs?
    -> run program
    eventvwr.exe
    windows logs
    application
and then the log that was written at the time of the crash

Wow! That worked! Thanks ever so much for the advice, its very, very much appreciated. :D

Loving the mod so far, excellent work guys :D

  • mrphilosophias: Hope that your silence (not posting on this topic anymore) means the trick worked, if so, grats :)

    Good luck!

yep that solution worked. Now I am getting the E12 "Crossfire Update not found ... only Singleplayer available [E12]" even though I unchecked read only for all files and sub directories, and created exceptions for cf and fl in my firewall and antivirus. I even tried disabling my firewall and antivirus, but same error. Any suggestions?
