Black screen and crash to desktop

    Hey, I've just installed Freelancer with Crossfire Mod 1.82, and... it doesn't work.


    I've installled Freelancer, then FLMM 1.31, then Crossfire 1.82. Activated it in FLMM and started Freelancer, Launcher appears, game starts... I hear sound from the intro movies but the screen is black, after the intros the Crossfire loading screen appears for a split second and it drops to desktop, leaving a blank window frame behind, followed by a crash after about 20 seconds. The solution from the other thread with a similar problem didn't work for me.


    My specs:


    Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit
    MSI P35 NEO2 FR Platinum
    Core2Duo E8200 2,7Ghz @ 3,2Ghz
    NVidia GeForce GTX 275 896MB
    4 GB Ram


    What I have tried so far:

    • Reinstalling (Freelancer, FLMM, Crossfire)
    • Reinstalling after manually looking for residual files and registry entries
    • Redownloading all components (FLMM, Crossfire)
    • Disabling 3D Sound
    • Running in compatibility mode (Win XP SP2, Admin)
    • Deactivating advanced shaders in Crossfire pre-activation config (FLMM)
    • Deactivating intros in Crossfire pre-activation config

    Running Vanilla Freelancer works fine, ergo, it must have something to do with Crossfire.


    Solutions I came accross in the forum:

    • Reinstalling
    • Uninstalling codec packs (Have none)
    • Reinstalling Windows (Not there yet)
    • Deleting Savegame folders
    • Screwing with the voltage of my motherboard...

    Hope you can help me.

    I think problem is in compatibility between some PC config Windows 7 64bit and Freelancer-Crossifre!
    However i can not figure out what kind of problem u have exactly but this looks like graphic card issue/graphic drivers.
    I had constant crashes(video hardver error and Blue screen error :S ) in my windows 7 64 bit for months, but only while running 2 programs:
    1. Crossfire
    2. Mozzila firefox
    My windows never crashed in any of new games which i play/played so this make me to conclusion about some kind of bad compatibility between my personal PC config--->Windows 7 64 bit--->Crossfire--->Mozzila Firefox...therefore i think this is possible software conflict...

    welcome in CF universe. I have one small question ... you let your 1.82 install patched by launcher? .. Yes? ... then pls check Crossfire technical board for answer you seek (actual patches are for 1.9! You need assure for your 1.82 install that you will not receive updates from launcher.) 1.82 is not more supported and now you need wait for re-releasing 1.9 (debugging process)

    Thanks guys, I've reinstalled everything again and disabled my LAN adapter so the launcher has no chance of downloading anything. It worked, the game starts and I can play.


    So, how do I disable the auto update feature? And no, I don't want to use the stupid Windows firewall, nor any other software firewall for that matter.


    If I can't diable the updater I will run Freelancer while connected to the Net by mistake eventually...

    just wait for the 1.9 download link being online again some of us are playing it currently and it´s worth every minute you wait for it.


    For the rest, just disallow the Internet Explorer to connect to the internet if you don´t need it. Put a not working proxy as connection into it for example. The Launcher is based on the IE Explorers connection so the Game won´t get any and will offer Single Player only.

    They are working on some bugs within the Game - the whole Mod is very complex, as soon as it is ready i would say - give it the needed time please and be excited. You will get something extraordinary without having to pay a cent but some patience for it ;)
