Any way to disable enemy NPCs ridiculous use of shield batteries and nanobots in singleplayer?

  • Playing through Freelancer for the first time in a while, and thought I'd play it modded to make things more interesting. Looked into Crossfire and thought everything just looked amazing: so much great new content, awesome improvements in graphics, entirely new singleplayer missions, etc. But I'm just going nuts here due to how long even a simple battle with 2-3 enemies takes just because they seem to have 20+ shield batteries and nanobots that they spam everytime I get their hull or shields down to half health. Asides from this the mod seems fantastic, but this one aspect is just making the single player utterly impossible to stand and there doesn't seem to be anything in the options about disabling it. Is there any way to turn this off?

  • no, there is no way to turn it off.

later in the game there will be no problems like this. you just need better weapons. at the beginning of the game it is not easy to play as a "fighter". try to play as a trader till you have enough money to get better, stronger ships and weapons. NPCs up to level 10 or 11 will not have the time of using bots and bats, cause they will die too fast. NPCs over this level don't use them as much as low level NPCs (and the result of using them is not very high, so no problem too).

and, by the way, what do you think the NPCs think about you using up to 250 bots and bats... ;-)

so the game is more "realistic". nobody want to die. even not a NPC... ;-)

    greetings

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    hehe RSI here i come

  • well if they can mod it "in" you can mod it "out"....just a matter of finding the right file and changing it. Just dont do it on mp. Worse comes to worse deactivate the mod and find other mods to play. Either way RSI has the replacement for this game coming soon so dont stress too much.

  • lol tanaurak, there's even a big yellow announcement on this thread saying "ATTENTION: his thread is marked as done. Consider creating a new thread."

  • It is possible to cope with improved NPCs even in vanilla ships. Rhino with Barradger 1 turrets and Scorpion guns can (almost) cope with anything level 1 or 2 mission can throw at you. I just wish for the missiles to work more like in vanilla. Meaning, to stand a chance to hit something with it, from time to time. As opposed to not even knowing where the hell this missile have flew to...
