Opinions on a ship choice

  • Ok, so, I have reached the point where I'm equipped well enough to make some money, and I'm looking to my first CF ship. I know later I will be able to change ships as the mood strikes me, but for now, money will be a lil tight. I would love the opinions of some of the experienced pilots concerning a few ships. This will likely be the ship I complete all my questing in.

I am wanting a VHF, or possibly a freighter. I want 6 gun hardpoints, I don't mind if 2 are class 9. I want at least 1 forward firing turret if at all possible.

Currently, I'm very much considering the Komodo Dragon, the King Tiger, and the Bullpup Mk. III. If you haven't noticed, I kinda have a thing for "ugly" ships. Also, I understand that acquiring a Bullpup requires asking the Blood Guard very nicely, possibly making a donation towards the continued protection of humankind, and doing whatever else they want, if they decide to let me get one at all.

These are not the only ships I will consider buying, but just the ones I have noticed so far.

Thanks for any and all opinions, guys.

  • Hello Corbin, for trading might be for you interesting also APC from Nephele (UR clan system). For fighting ... cheapest variant is red/black eagle with nice agility. Another nice fighters are in Tarsus, but maybe will be for you better ask CFPD clan first (send pm to GUNNY). There are also others, but more nice ships you can found in Altair (Coalition space).

  • I've found the Bullpup III to be an excellent
freighter. It's huge cargo hold, gracious shield batteries and nanite
storage are an excellent choice for the bang for the bucks ratio.

Armour is adequate without being too heavy.

The addition of a second thruster is what endears
this ship to my heart. Although she may not be able to go toe to toe
with a well equipped fighter, she has double the afterburner speed of
any other ship. This alone makes the Bullpup III and excellent
trading ship because sometimes it's better to get out of trouble
faster than you got into it.

One side note, because this ship has two thrusters
she goes through a "burn" twice as fast as other ships. I
recommend getting up to top speed the hitting the kill engine button
    (Z) and coasting where you need to go. Course adjustments can then be
corrected with a short burst from the after-burn button (TAB).

I have used this ship all through Sirius and she
works great as a mission completion ship.

P.S. Make sure to ask for permission from the clan
where you purchase this ship because they will blow you to space
    junk.

  • The Demios is a good ship in my opinion.
Not great maneuverability, but it has 6 level 10 guns, and 1 level 10 turret, 360º rotation..
Nice armour.. Good ship for most areas.

  • I agree

Deimos is excellent Sirius All-Rounder Ship

Even very good in Altair and not too bad in Inner Core

    100 Cargo hold,

    Kind Regards

  • Appreciate all the help guys. Have decided to go with the Billpup mk III, and already got permission from BG and purchased it. Love the thing, it's like the best-armed bathtub you can find.
Now, to hunt down some nomad cannons...

  • Copied from the Crossfire web page:

    Bullpup Mk III Assault Freighter

    Gun/Turrets Mounts: 6/3
    Armor: 21000
    Cargo Space: 400
    Max Batteries/NanoBots: 120/120
    Optimal Weapon Class: 8
    Max. Weapon Class: 10
    Additional Equipment: M, CM, CD/T

A throwback to old designs, the Bullpup is a stout ship nevertheless. No engineer has claimed responsibility for the design, but many factions are seeking to use the ship for their armadas. This is the last step in the Bullpup series. This attack Freighter has a frightening amount of guns, plenty of power and a cargo hold to haul in the riches. A very stable ship, able to defend itself as well as it hauls cargo. This model uses a pilot and 2 co-pilots OR robots/androids to fill the roll.

I believe that the Bullpup III has two of it's three turrets firing in the forward arc.

  • Problem with the Mk3 bullpup..it's a sitting duck.... Very slow turn rate and if you mis the Thrusters cuttoff ( engine kill and coasting), you are in a heap of trouble...

If you want a npc fighting cargo ship ... In that instance I would rather go with the Haidar (330 cargo)

    But your original request 6x Lv10 and 1 Turrent (forward) + 100 Cargo ... Deimos ... ( Deimos kicks Bullpup Mk3 Ass )

    Kind Regards

  • Redemption, the ultimate NPC killer. Comes with free "best shield in the game"

  • Redemption, the ultimate NPC killer. Comes with free "best shield in the game"

    thats not quite true.
The shield is already included in the ship price. Take off the shield and the price for the ship would ba about the same like it is for other VHF's :)

But I would still vote for the Saracen. Very good mix of agility, firepower and armor :D

  • You guys really have stepped up on this topic. It's awesome, and I appreciate it. You can look at ship stats all day, but until you know what people think, you can't really tell what you're seeing.

As ill-advised as it may be, for now, I'm sticking with the Bullpup MkIII. It's a fun flying tank, and suits the roleplay I have set up for my character in my head. I will eventually try other ships, though. Likely all these eventually.

Thanks again guys, and don't stop on my account. Watching opinions fly around on this sort of thing is always informative and entertaining.
