Excessive use of processor power

  • I've got a question to OP or anybody who knows how the game engine works.

This is a graph from my task manager, those spikes going to 100% of processor usage are when FLCF is open, 60% are when game is minimised. If I keep game open and then alt+tab to task manager, it shows constant 100% with a downfall in the moment of alt+tab.
Could anyone tell me how is this possible? Fallout 3 wasn't using CPU so much. I'm using C2D 2x2,5Ghz + 2GB RAM + GeForce 7600GS.

  • When you minimize the game and while the game is minimizing is when it spikes like that. While the game's running, it holds from about 60%-80%. You've got a dual core processor. You should be able to run it. I suggest that if you are worried look at what is chewing up your processor besides CF.

  • Nope, it was definitely FLCF. I found that it goes on an CPU overkill in nebulas, but stays near 65% on both cores in normal systems (like NY, NL). I have 1%-5% with game closed and Chrome running, so nope, it's not a background app. Those spikes were actually where game was maximized, cause when I left game maximized for some time and then alt+tabbed to task manager, the graph was like ^^^^^\_ (but I'm repeating myself, I told you that in previous post).

Also, Try this program. Game Booster: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html. Its free, ive used it before and it is great for squeezing excess power out of your system (especially bypassing some of the crap windows does).

My processor is a Six Core AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition. So i desperately need more processing power :P

  • My Quad core runs at 5% when running FL and I set the affinity for the game to run on one core as it is meant to. Verb, download TDSSkiller and run it. Let me know what it finds. You could also have a bottleneck on the voltage to your processor and memory. Can you enter the bios and post what kind of CPU & ram you have, then the voltages for both please.

  • ive no explaination to that as my freelancer does not act that way

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • Gentlemen, I feel it's worth noting that the possibility of the FL code is quite likely very poorly optimized. Tack on that possibility with the fact OP has added about roughly an additional 50% more overhead due to graphic details, effects and so forth and voila'! Reaching 100% load on a single processor core is not that difficult to achieve methinks.

  • I play on low setings. I am more concerned that CF uses 70-80% of my brain...rofl...

  • TDDSKiller shows nothing. As of voltages, I had a better idea, if you want to dig in specs:
Report was taken while running Windows Experience Index test to get CPU to 2500mhz, cause without pressure it downsteps itself to 2x1.2ghz.

  • Good that you posted all the hex codes, do you actually know that we now can read your password, banking account pin and all other stuff from you PC?
Do you know that the task manager also need processor power? Alt Tab between the windows is actually something to do for your CPU thus I wouldnt be so much supprised to see the CPU usage rising...

If you dont want CPU at this levels then simply dont open the task manager and dont alt tab from CF to desktop

  • Cool story bro. PINs from CPU-Z report. Mkay. Even if it was possible, I'm not using internet banking and don't really care about my password. I'll explain that 3rd time, cause I see it's not perfectly clear to everybody.

When I'm mining in nebula systems my processor usage looks like this:

Now, as it is obvious, processor usage actually goes to 20% when my PC stops rendering game graphics. Your argument about keeping task manager open is invalid, I get to ~15% with task manager, chrome, foobar and OpenOffice open, so TM isn't really putting much pressure on my CPU. I haven't got much problems with my CPU going to this level, but I find interesting.

FLCF is installed with all graphical goodies, including advanced shaders.

  • Hour beat me to the comment about the hex codes.

Verb PM me your type of motherboard ( model and make). kind of ram you have and the FSB. BTW the celeron processor is a problem, because it uses lower voltage than normal to operate. It can be boosted a bit without harming any hardware.

If you haven't noticed - nebulas in 1.8 are much more complex, and (if im correct) nebula effect/'showiness' is being processed mainly by cpu, hence the increase.
