    Hi guys


    I just wanted to inform you that it might take a while, until I can come back online ingame.



    My PC decided to try out, how it is to morphe into dust.


    In fact. I have no idea what went wrong with my components.



    It's not even starting anymore.


    The power adapter is new 650W (1/2 year in use)


    Graphic Card is new as well nVidia GForce GTS 450


    Mainboard ASUS M4N78-AM


    RAM 2 x 2GB DDR3



    The last days it started to crash for no reason. (idle mode or under use, didnt matter)


    Restarting by itself without a given command


    Bluescreen after 1 minute running, with a delay up to 3 hours ( sometimes just another crash after just restarting the machine)



    I assume I have component problem, where I dont know what component is affected.



    Maybe my processor is broken. I have no clue.



    So please dont count on me the next days. Until my problem is solved.

    650W power supply - are you going to bake some breads with it? You can try to dismount everything and step by step add the components - each time with a reboot. Could help to identify the reason or component that causes these problems. I assume mainboard or RAM. CPUs itself seldom break down.
    Anyway good luck. Now Mizi will be lucky - cause you will spend more time with playing with her ;)

    It's not even starting up ? That means like your Power Grid is gone.


    Does your lamps work?
    Does your fans/ventilators work?


    And you also mentioned a Blue Screen? What is the code that you're receiving from it? From " STOP : 0x00... "


    Some of your PC components could of frighed out from the dust and also moisture.


    And your crashes may of coming from an unstability of your RAM memories and the restarts

    Is your PSU fan working all the time or cutting out? How about your CPU fan? What you described sounds like an over-heating problem. CPU's are designed to shut the system down with a fail-safe temperature monitor in order to prevent the damage of over-heating. If you weren't overclocking your CPU then I would immediately rule that component out, same goes for the memory.




    650watt PSU is nothing as far as power is concerned, since the PSU and motherboard are designed to regulate the watts or amps going across the board. So either your board is just too old and needs replacing or a cooling fan has quit. A blue screen message would help too.




    If you have another psu laying around, just hook it up to your pc and fire it up, see what happens. But while you are doing that, clean the dust out of the cooling fins on your cpu too. Fire the pc up and see if the fan on the cpu is spinning and watch it for a few minutes.




    Let us know what happens.

    I did clean everything. I usually keep the inside clean (means cleaning every 2-3 weeks) there is also no dusk in the vent's itselfs.


    The problem appeard the last days.


    it did start with reboots for no apparent reason. This I tried to solve with a system recovery because I thougth there must have happen a damaged installation of something.


    ok. nothing worked.


    So i keept working with it and everything was fine. the reboots kicked in without any schedule. sometimes the system remains stable for days. other times the system crashed like in my first post mentioned


    after that, the bluescreen kicked in. and NO I dont remember what it said. since it was gone too fast.


    then I opened the whole machine again and unmounted all components.in order to clean everything again. (knowing the order of connections. so I dont connect anything in the wrong way)


    after mounting all components again. the system refused to start.


    the PSU is running fine. the vent is blowing.


    the CPU vent however starts and stops kinda immediately. (1-2seconds after turning on)


    I tried without RAM, without the Graphic card, so I used the onboad one, which had no better results.


    the 24pin connection from the PSU to the mainboard is connected in the right way. so is the 4pin connector (ATX support) which needs to be connected as well.


    I tried to run without the 4 pin connector and the result was.


    both vents are running fine. system seem to start but NOTHING happens. harddrives starting, but NO video signal.


    No video signal either way. with the onboad or the plugged in graphic adapter.


    So far I dont even have access to the bios, since I dont see anything.



    Im kinda frustrated. I have a 350W PSU laying around here, but I dont know if it can handle the GTS450 :(


    Try switching the RAM in different ports.(with only one -> If you have two). And if it reloads, try getting into the Safe Mode and see if your PC will restart.
    Check also your connections, as it makes conflicts.


    It's either your RAM or video card , as it can't be from your motherboard as you haven't touched it.


    And your PSU could be too weak to power the other PC components.


    Try also unmounting some PC components which aren't vital for your PC to run. ( Though I kinda doubt it as 650w is a lot)

    I just tried the follows:


    no additional components mounted. MB is connected with 24pin + 4pin (ATX12V) on a 650W PSU


    processor, cooler, 1 RAM (switched between 256MB up to 2GB), onboard graphic


    with the result, the PC does not even turn on, stops right after 1-2 seconds (like reboot button is always pressed)


    I even tried without any RAM at all. to get at least the BIOS but no success



    second try same configuration, just with the lower PSU (350W) no success


    I disconnected the 4pin-connector from the MB and started


    PC starts. but NO video signal toward the monitor (which remains black, since there is no incomming video signal)


    same happens when I tried this config with the other PSU (650W) and disconnected 4-pin-connector



    so all my possibilities are used yet. I assume that my board is broken somehow. since all other components are working fine (exept the processor, I cant even test it yet)



    does anyone know a good suplier for Mainboard bundles in GERMANY? who accepts paypal and delivers fast? :)

    I don't know man... I ran out of options. Something is either gone(a component) or something makes conflicts that you can't turn on your PC.


    The best for you is just to take it to the service.

    Try to dismount the processor (touch a heating or dicharge yourself in another way), clean everything (with less glass cleaner on a non fuzzing sheet - carefully) and put some (some!!! = as less as possible just to build a plain film) heat paste (a good one not the normal crap) between the processor and the cooling base (whatever you have there).


    Just an idea if there is something loosely.

    Sad to hear you are having PC problems.


    One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is the windows install/hard drive (I know it's unlikely to be the source of the problem but better test it anyway since it cost nothing). Did you try to boot with a Linux live cd?


    Also, make sure you have unplugged all your USB devices. I've had PC not booting problems that ended up being caused by a defective USB device stopping the bios from starting.

    I did unmount everything from the MB, cleaned everything again. including processor and cooler.


    brought it back up. piece by piece. and conected everything again.


    system started. and seemed to run normal. for about 3 hours.


    then I lost i-net connection (for what reason ever) and was not able to reconnect, since it didnt even connect me to my home network


    I disabled the network adapter (onboard) and reconnected. i-net connection got established. and boom


    bluescreen. I dont know if it was just a lucky timing of the bluescreen to appear, or if there is something really messed up on my mainboard.


    if its on the mainboard, then I have no clue, if I would do good, with getting a bundle including power adapter (the 650W still runs fine, no problems) or if I should just get a new board or processor. I have not the slightliest idea what to do.


    arent bluescreens not also stored in the windows event viewer - you might eventually lookup the error code there and google for it. Or there is a setting that the system does not restart after a blue screen. That solves not the problem but you eventually will have time to read what is written there.


    Still guessing its the mainboard - maybe its getting too hot, could be that some components on the board are broken... hm hard to say. You could try to google for the mainboard and known problems. Eventually you can find some valueable info there. Maybe the 650 watts are too much for a component or the power flucts and hence somewhen it comes to a blue screen. But i am lost as well if i would be in your shoes.

    Start----run----- type eventvwr.



    Goto the systems pull down on the left and look for all the red-x warnings. Some are normal believe it or not, but the critical error will be in there. post the screens here or email them to me of the critical errors.

    Install your OS again, clean and safe.Btw do u have a clean copy of ur registry keys?If not spare few hours for this option, As smb already wrote here:there is nothing to lose (i hope you can make back up before do this).If problem persist then sw to other option and check next things in order of appearance:


    1. MB
    2. RAM
    3. CPU
    4. AGP


    Of course if u are 100% sure in ur PSU stability.

    Right now Im preparing a clean (fabric new) HD to make a fresh install of everything


    after that, I might try to reinstall all programs, step by step to see what effect it has (if the problem is software related)


    Since I was using Win7 Ultimate 64bit, Im going to try the 32bit version now. hopefully Windows does support more drivers (with less problems)


    I experienced that not all components are suitable for 64bit version. Too bad, since I like it. But I think if the 32bit version is running better and more stable, it should work for me as well.


    I managed to update the bios without any problems occuring


    I will see what happens.



    and yes, I have all the accound ID's (so I wont lose my chars.. lol)

    Write down the driver when the bluescreen appears and post it here, this way you know exactly which hardware component did the problem. 32 bit versions of windows 7 are not supporting multi processor systems - would be a bad idea if you have more than 1 processor mounted.

    thanks for the advice. but I just have 1 processor (multicore) and this is supported


    so far my system runs stable again. I accidently!!!!!!!! erased my storage partition on my backup HD, which had all the programs I've had installed, stored.


    Now I'm desperate in trying to restore my partitions on that HD, otherwise I can not get back on CF :(



    the critical error I got before was 41 (thanks bond for reminding me how to get to the log) so that made me decide to setup back on the 32bit systems, which are supporting all the drivers in the right version, I need to run my system.


    Unfortunately even my Autdesk 3ds max is gone :( So I can just hope to get it restored.


    Im trying out TestDisk 6.11.3, which also runs under windows. hopefully it works


    Uh dude, real mess out there...and i know how you feel :( And just to add this 1: I have a hard time with Windows pro 64 bit version.However i cannot blame this OS but somehow i am not happy with stability when it comes about x86 (32bit) application.Sadly but true.And i'm thinking to downgrade my OS to 32 bit :( or even to XP again...

    I have 64 bit win7 ultimate and I have zero problems with any 32 bit or 64 bit programs or hardware for that matter. So its not the fault of the OS, its the fault of the user in most cases for not selecting the correct drivers OR not doing their homework on their hardware before hand.



    DW is correct, 32 bit win7 does not support multi-core processors that well, although it will, but very limited. Before you reinstall post all of your specs here, motherboard model / serial number, graphics card, type of memory etc.
