Like every year Id like to give a small overview over what we achieved in the past one.
The Agenda for 2010 looked this way.
QuoteDisplay MoreSWAT Portal Updates in 2010
2010 has started with the release of the new Crossfire mod in combination with a few design updates on the forum and the crossfire site that we did in 2009. Task was and still is to make SWAT more userfriendly, more modern, more attractive to players.
Within the next 3 months Id like to do important changes on the Portal Frontpage and the forum.
1. The forum still requires a fix for the search engine prob (the search bots can login but they are not able to read out the forum). I believe I have found a way around this problem, not a solution but something we at least can work with. Result is very important for us as we need better search results on google for SWAT content.
2. The SWAT Frontpage (SWAT main site) will get another design update. I know that the last update was not that long ago, but the style could be better and offer a better structure.
3. A wiki plugin for the Portal has to be created. That plugin would allow us to moderate and add new content to the portal in a much easier and faster way.
These changes require some help of php coders so everyone willing to help is welcome.
Next thing that needs to be done is Crossfire related. A PR campaign.
We need CF trailers and ads. I already mentioned in 2009 what i have in mind.
In 2010 we also have to sort out the moderation of SWAT. The members of the community will have to take over more jobs. But that is something we will discuss later.
For a very long time we only had one FL server represented here at SWAT... that might change. We will have to talk about conditions for other servers (CF1.7).
New games will be introduced to SWAT. New clans and guilds be formed. You are the ones which can do that.
I will introduce a new Code of Conduct for all members of the Portal. The past months and the unpleasent events in december 09 simply require to think about such a solution.
A few years back another modder of this Portal released a mod which remained unfinished. This mod becomes the next community project that you all can work on. Of course we aim for a high quality mod. This is a chance for you to learn modding.
There also is to be discussed how much other modding projects get support by SWAT.
Besides the last point (I clearly didnt have time for another modding project) everything we planned to do was done, and we did it way better than we actually intented to.
At the beginning of 2010 Crossfire 1.8 and 1.81 were introduced and that was a major success (eventhough the mod was not perfect yet). In March the new SWAT Portal website and forum was introduced which in the end has doubled the member activity and number of visitors. In summer we did a massive PR campaign for CF and were able to release CF1.82 in september (which made this mod version almost perfect). Meanwhile we have high player numbers on the server eventhough the work on the server side software is not even 100% finished. In October I decided to do another major step. I obtained Lancers Reactor, included it into the SWAT Portal and tried to rebuild that site.
Today it can be said that we have 2,7 times higher numbers of visitors (average) at all the SWAT Websites compared to the year before. I would say that 2010 was the most successful year so far and it ended with the 4th Mod Award Nomination in a row.
One of the most significant changes in 2010 was that the new Portal allowed us to coordinate work much better and share the workload. I personally dont have to do everything alone anymore and many members have stepped forward to offer help and take over important jobs. I would call that progress.
At this point I usually present detailed info about number of visitors for SWAT and such stuff.
Statistics for the entire SWAT Portal and all its external sites based on the official webanalytic tool of the SWAT Server.
Based on that we had 1.527.101 visitors and 22.720.706 site clicks at the SWAT Websites.
By obtaining Lancersreactor we have gained access to another great site for the Lancer games and have meanwhile 48,682 registered members in total.
Eventhough the member activity at TLR is not that high (when I took over that site in october it was nearly dead) we make some progress and TLR has a fairly good amount of visitors and people which use it to get downloads. That site has much unused potential and in 2011 we for sure can make use of it.
The plans for 2011 are relative simple.
Releasing CF1.9
Upgrading the Portal to an even more modern version
Taking care of Lancersreactor
and getting the 5th Mod of the Year nomination
