In-game map system

  • I was wondering if there would be a way in the future to try
    to implement a "whole" universe map in game?


    Browsing systems in Sirius is easy, but finding one in Altair/IC/Dk is
    a pain for me, having to move one system to another one by clicking
    on JG/JH (or am I missing something?)


    I do not know if it is doable or "core freelancer code" thingy, or if has been
    discussed already (could not find anything about it), but this may be a
    possible idea... in case...

  • i think i can answer this one, OP may add his comment if i miss something...


    The map can only show one view (sector). We cannot make 3 different view for each sector.


    Its possible to move systems on the map but still, it would not allow enough space for all the new Altair+IC systems to fit in the available space.


    So the answer is sadly no...


    But maybe having key systems like Sov or Weth to be moved away from behind the sol system would help a little in our searches...


    EDIT : searching by base would greatly help... Look for Coalition HQ and you get sent to the Vorkuta map, for example....

  • I do have an idea which only compresses the Sirius systems with nearly half a point (well, points are some nubmers used in creating the map, but not sure how to express it, just a bit more compressed, not much). Using the same map model as the universal map I psoted some time ago.... and it's not overposed, and each sector with it's zone ... but it'd take some time and math to make it correctly... even OP got a model of it to view... it's a no go for now. There are more important thinggs to do than the 'look' of the universal map... and more as you already have a better one Faaby ^^

  • I hav an idea.
    Lets consider a sector map and a system map as two layers. Normally we would go to the top layer(the universe map) and zoom into the required bottom layer (system map). What if there was a third layer above these two layers representing the 4 sectors?
    So you can click a sector to zoom into ans select the system from the sector map that pops up.

    meh.

  • It would be really great. + small updates for X-3040 that we can see all gate.

  • Nice one Hellraiser, something like, filling a system of the size of Sol, with several smaller systems.


    Imagine the lag and issues that would create, especially if you add a patch to see even more stuff at larger distance (as Husker says), but I'd like to see an example of that, 4 systems in one (to not go too far), it'd be cool to travel from system to system by Cruising xD
