  • Hi all,

As a complete noob on this forum, I was hoping you'd do me the kindness of helping me out.

I've played Freelancer since it came out, and happily rediscovered it a month or two ago, since when I've been playing Discovery mod, and enjoying it immensely.

I would dearly like to now move onto Crossfire, but there are a couple of things I just can't work out/things that I'd like to be able to do.

    1. Is there any way of completely disabling the storyline, so you just begin, with all gates unlocked, on New York, and can go from there?
    2. " " " " of altering starting credits?
    3. " " " " of altering starting system, if there is no story.

Most of you will recognise these are all starting options on Discovery Mod, which make the game a whole lot more fun in my eyes, and as it's all Single Player, the only person I'm cheating is myself, and I'm fine with that :D

Due to the changes in difficulty, working my way through until I have the finances available to go ship-shopping somewhere far and exotic would take longer than I have available to play the game.

The only other way I could work round this is finding a 'completed' SP savegame, but I can't manage to find one, ANYWHERE.

PLEASE, PLEASE give an old Freelancer his wings back, and help us out.

Look forward to hearing from you,

    B

  • Hi mate, 1rst Welcome to teh Swat boards ^^ , sry for the late response, but passed over a bit this thread whch have the same title as 4 other threads.

Yes you can alter everything in your savegames(credits, lvl), try search for save game editor ;) Savegames are located at My Documents/My Games /Freelancer by default.

Just don't touch anything else(files), or the game may not launch for second time ^^

Have fun, and maybe soon we meet in MP that it's fun :P

  • Hi Benedict, welcome on Swat-portal

    1. Is there any way of completely disabling the storyline, so you just begin, with all gates unlocked, on New York, and can go from there?

Before activating this mod you can change many options and one from them is use Open SP

..But as Mike said, hope you can and will try Multiplayer ... its much funnier :D

  • Cheers for the quick reply,

    However...

I've tried both the Ioncross Character Editor, which searches for savegames, finds none, and sits there looking useless.

And also the Simple Save Editor, which hangs as soon as I load a savegame.

Also, whenever I select OpenSP when activating the mod, I still get the storyline, I know this is an issue a few people are dealing with, but haven't found a solution as yet..

Any more ideas/suggestions why the save editors aren't working?

  • OpenSP is available and can easily be choosen along with many other options
alternative money and start location are not supported and actually is not wanted

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    This is ten percent luck,
    Twenty percent skill,
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will,
    Five percent pleasure,
    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • I hate to say it, but it ain't working on my installation. Same happens after a complete reinstall.

And surely if people want these options for SP, they are wanted?

I know I'm not the only one.

Any thoughts on the savegame editor? Ioncross simply doesn't find my saves, and Simple Editor hangs when loading the saves.

    Arg.

  • Try look here. Hope it help :)

  • I had that simple editor...using it with CF savefiles which are on the same structure... it's very small and fast, how it can hang O.o

What you open with teh simple save one, only open the files called as "save406b", random xxxx letters and numbers, or Autosave, not any other "database" or warn from other programs or such stuff.

  • I know, it seems such a simple program, but yeah, I find the Savegamexxxx file, load it and it just stops responding.

Every time I start a SP game, I get the Freeport 7 cutscene and have to wait it out to save, too..

  • A new development.

Tried running both character editors in Admin mode (windows 7, pehh..)

Simple one still freezes, Ioncross finds my save, but when loading it i get this:

Runtime error 339: comdlg32.ocx or one of its dependencies missing/invalid.

    Problems, upon problems..

  • comdlg32.ocx

At the bottom of the IonCross page, download the VB Runtime files package and install it. Then try the save editors again.

BTW, The storyline is fun in Crossfire. The cut scenes are the same, of course, but the missions play quite a bit differently because the enemies are different. For example, turret platforms are a much more serious threat, which is more realistic. It is not easy to kill all of the enemies. In some missions, it might not be possible. I especially like the raid against the experimental (Nomad) shipyard... it is an epic battle in Crossfire.

So, if you cannot get Open SP to work, then all is not lost.

As for increasing cash via a save editor, you can do that. However, there are some good trade opportunities and big payoffs for tractored pilots, so earning serious money is not as tedious in Crossfire as it is in Vanilla.

The one thing that you will probably want to do, in Single Player, is to increase your rank via the Save Game editor. That allows you to buy cool new Crossfire ships and gear.

    Have fun. :)

There are 10 kinds of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who do not.

  • Well, one problem fixed.

OpenSP now working after another reinstall in a different directory. Sorted.

However, despite installing VB runtime files, Ioncross still refuses to load the save, despite finding it, without the comdlg32.ocx message..

    Sigh..

  • i enjoyed the single player with story line i thought it was great to play was like an exspansion to the origanal story if you read the news and what people have to say in the bar:D otherwise play the story out like normal . The economy changes with the server updates as well so you will be able to see how the different routes change its neat:DAnd when you finish you might try playing with us folks online id be happy to help you get started.

  • There is an install option to play with or without the storyline. I've played (about 30 min) with both. I don't know if the option can be changed without reinstalling.
