SWAT Community Bar

    The old Portal first had links to other communities on the main page.
    Then Huor developed a Community Bar for SWAT in response to TSPs bar which had serious security problems.


    Well that bar still exist and id like to transfer it to the new Portal... BUT
    Id like to make some improvements:
    -> a signup form here at SWAT so every community which want to be hosted just has to fill in that form (instead of getting applied just like TSP coz that is ineffective)
    -> a trackback feature so that if a community decides to join that "network" and registeres here only has to put the code for the bar on their own site to get their submited link displayed on the bar (so actually you register, then you put the code into your site, then the SWAT Portal automatically checks if that code does exist on the community and if that is the case the link to that community is automatically getting added to the community network; if the code is missing then no link will be added)


    ERGO: a easy, fast and unbureaucratic feature that has many advantages over ALL existing forms of site linking


    It for sure is not an easy task to get this running but in my eyes worth the efforts.

    If with the community bar, you mean community toolbar like the one I made from 0 in the Tools section, well I can create anything you need in a downloadable toolbar. I just need the exact info of what you want me to do.... and which links to add, also, as I read, a thread where people can ask to appear/to be added in the toolbar aswell.

    Anyways I remember you told me to remember you in a week( more than a week ago) about the "Active or Unread Threads" button where each search had a new ID and couldn't make it work... :D

    I found the drop-down graphic better than what is now


    And i think the content displayed should be changed - to something other. Because in the current state it looks the same like the TSP bar. And no one would put two bars on their sites. And i will look to the code improve changes that i have done for TSP - because also in the current state other sites would have problems to put this code on their site. As the ticker messages have problems to be loaded from a different server. Its a javascript security measure that prevent this proper use.

    the old button caused problems when hovering with the mouse over it from the top of the page downwards (in the other direction it was working) where the content just popped up and closed half a second later
    -> 1st reason why i took a solid button


    the design was pretty lowres and was originally designed for a bar that has just one color
    -> 2nd reason why i took a different button


    using a button which covers the height of the bar + a bit extra does not seem to be possible (otherwise i would have created a somewhat more interesting bar button)
    -> another reason for using the solid button



    next to that i dont think it is a good idea to have a bar button that has no name

    the current button seems to have the same problems. I barely can - no i cannot - click any links in the drop down menu. The popup is closing too fast.
    I just found the button looking good - I mean the new one (not the one i had created) - there was an derived button with showing arrows and fitting to the layout. It was intuitive and looked better than this one that is now there. Just my impression.


    Finally your decision - i just voiced my mind.
