Crashes???

  • I know that OP wont put an eye on it very soon - but it hought to post it anyway.

I somewhere have found that those constant crashes are not server related but there must be a reason that all clients seems to loose the connection concurrently. Thats when players are kicked because NPCs seems to appear or shot each other... dunno exactly what.

I found a thread on TSP with a few crash offsets - that could help to limit the expectations for possible crashes. Requirement would be that the server crashes.
Here the link to TSP with some offsets: http://the-starport.net/freela…t_id=28686#forumpost28686

Is there already known what causes this behaviour or are these all assumptions and we are still stepping in the dark?

  • pretty much dark
very part of the mod has been tested (not only by me) without any results

next to that i would be very careful about some of the offsets and the fixes presented at TSP
last time i tried to fix something with that it messed up many chars

  • This one happened to me twice yesterday near Omega-3 gate in Cambridge... It went away after I restarted the computer.

    [fehlerbox]common.dll, 000f24a0 - deliberate segfault (presumably a "this should never happen" scenario)[/fehlerbox]

  • So is the server not crashing? In this case there must be an event (dunno what) that lets all clients disconnect. --> Could FlHook or the Anticheat cause those problems - if yes are there no logs to look through?

The offsets in the dlls are related to the vanilla version and with that might change - but if the offset is near it could be maybe a similar reason.
I can try to run freelancer in the debugger - and wait till there comes a disconnect. As freelancer itself is not crashing there wont be any crash to look - but maybe still a possible event before the disconnect... I have no clue - i am just thinking loudly^^

  • Nono, this error, the one with the common.dll, happened when my Freelancer Crossfire crashed to desktop. This has to do probably with my system.

What I was talking about in that other topic (Dynamic Economy) was server crash, or server restart (everybody disconnects, server is unavailable for a minute or so, then it's on again). This has something to do with NPCs, explosions, missiles, tracking or something.

  • @ Huor

I also do not know what the reason for those server crashes are however once is clear to me that if those crashes will still remain and not reduce or better eliminate, it is going to be be hard to stablish a high number of players in CF and for community and also not a good thing for future of CF !!

  • yes - so i thought at least to talk about it and do offer some ideas. Just so not OP alone is forced to work on this - but somehow we need input from him to what we could look for. I guess there are a few specialist here as well - who at least can search for reasons or spread their ideas...

If there is a misbehaviour of something than a reason needs to be found. Stepping all time in the dark seems for me no option.

  • ive probably seen every error that does exist in FL or at least is known
but if i would see a way to fix something then it would be fixed for months meanwhile

if it would be effect related then the client would crash even on singleplayer (which is not the case)

  • but the clients only seems to be disconnected... And someone needs to disconnect them - either the client itself or the server. I would say the later one as a disconnet of one client mostly wouldnt result in a disconnect of all other clients as well.
I am still thinking loud ;)

Is there not a "list" what we can try to exlude possible reasons: I mean what about to disable flhook for 2 days - look if the problem still persist. If not then its flhook related. If yes then the next one, activate flhook and disable anti cheat and do the same observations... Just ideas. I will not demand anything!!!
If there is something i could check on the client side i would give it a try - but i have no idea for what to look. Well i could also try to use a network analyze and monitor the network traffic and see what was send before the disconnect.. Dunno if I would find anything in there or if this could help

  • has been tried already... no results
