    CF Launcher

Component 'MSINET.Ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

    OK

i have used search to find many threads dealing with this problem. i have tried all tips provided, including:
that regsrvr thing, also running it as admin
    reinstalling vb runtimes
running fl as admin and not

so i thought i should start my own msinet.ocx thread

    OS: windows 7 build 7600 64 bits
the freelancer installation is fresh. not patched, installed today, crossfire the only mod ever activated

  • sorry, i have written and use the launcher with XP and i do not intend to buy another OS, unless i will eventually decide to go for a new machine...

if ur OS is 64 bit, then try to use compatibility mode ...

maybe a player with successful installation of CF on Win7 can help here?

  • I've had that problem on win 7 64 bits. It was resolved by running the installer and the mod manager as administrator. (same thing will uninstalling the modmanager run it as administrator, you may have a partially uninstalled copy of the manager hanging around in you system

  • reinstalled fl, ran the crossfire installer and mod manager as admin. same result. is there a way to see the dependencies of msinet.ocx, where they are, and if i'm missing any?

  • downloaded the file, said there already was a msinet.ocx in syswow64. so i didnt overwrite it

so i tried run "regsvr msinet.ocx" it said the path was not found so i ran "regsvr C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msinet.ocx" said it succeeded. tried running FL, same error as in the beginning

so i overwrited the file with the download and tried again. same problem

so i tried downloading the msinet.ocx into the system32 folder. it said there was one already there as well. except there wasnt. that really confused me
so i manually put the downloaded msinet.ocx in there, registered it, ran fl, and still get the same issue

  • please try to register that msinet.ocx from the CF installation, that is located in the freelancer path (.../Microsoft Games/Freelancer/EXE/msinet.ocx)

  • i finally found a way to list the dependencies of a module. with the program called "dependency walker"

it showed 2 errors and a warning:

    Code
    1. Error: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in an implicitly dependent module.
    2. Error: Modules with different CPU types were found.
    3. Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module.
  • I am running windows 7, and have no problems with starting up the game. Though i deactivated uac completely. Try it, if it doesnt work i dont know it either. Cause heh..i have the same problem but then on windows vista :P..

Maybe its a common thing whats wrong? Not specialy on the OS?
But the real odd thing is, it only acts like this on CF..I played void mod, discovery mod, never had this problem. Its pure cause of the CF mod whats not doing something when in vista.

  • Or that you haven't installed/activated and started the game as admin. To avoid getting safety checks or stuff...

    Chars: [CFPD]Michael~something (x25), [CFPD]~SQMS~{[(store)]} (x3), [CFPD]xfer, Event~Manager~Michael, StarfIier~EM~Michael, Event_Team_2, [GR]Michael[SP] and a blueprint of [CFPD]Sephirothis

  • i believe this is a architecture/dependencies problem

    to answer your question:
i have run the game/installer/mod manager all as admin.

    @shiverblade:
32 or 64 bits on both your win7 and vista?

  • The only difference to other mods for this problem is the launcher. As Hägar already has written - the launcher is written in VB hence the problems with msinet.ocx.#

You can try to download the VB6 runtime and following the hints on this page... Its a VB related problem. We are sorry to say - but sometimes there are things that is in Microsofts responsibility and we all have to suffer :)
There seems to be some workarounds and hints for the msinet.ocx thing.
