well... after 6 years of development "rushed" seems not to be the correct word
-
well the reason that Microsoft cut off some content from Freelancer was unkown . I've seen several trailers for Freelancer , ofc with different content . OP , those files are accesible and can be modified ? In fact my q is... its possible to modify the source game code ?
-
no
-
is there no way u can get the code?
dont u have some friends in microsoft that grant u access to the code?

Microsoft is not in the business of giving away their source code.
Not yet, anyway!
-
There are petition boards, those kinds where many people put a vote for something, that asks Microsoft to release the code, I voted... there were many... but I don't remember the site atm...
-
as long MS$ cant make a dollar out of it, they wont give a rat's a** for what we/you want...
-
Well i was thinking.....
Project Lonestar got canceled so Micrsoft may be ok with giving u whatever is left of the source code.
Then u can try to make the game yourself or go in a partnership with Microsoft if it is not willing to give u the source code.
This way , you too can earn a few million $.
PLEASE IGNORE THIS IF IT IS STUPID AND TELL ME TELL ME WHY IT IS STUPID. -

I mean, who is stupid enough buying a brand new, originally sealed copy of FL, when there are copies en'mas available on amazon or ebay ?
Well, maybe I AM stupid not knowing hoe they still make money with FL.
Then please, enlight me.

if so u did not tell me the reasonI cannot speak for others. Speaking for myself, yes, Hellraiser, I ignored your previous question in this thread.
Why? Well, among other things, you told us to ignore the question if it was stupid.
Why has nobody explained why your question is stupid? Well, they did... before you asked it. It is the same answer that several people have already given you: Microsoft is not in the business of giving away their source code. There are many reasons for their logic. Some of those reasons may be debatable in their wisdom, but the bottom line is still the same: Freelancer belongs to Microsoft and they can do whatever they want with it. Making their products "open source" is not something that Microsoft has been interested in doing.
Ever.
But feel free to contact Microsoft and ask them if you like.

Neverever, regardless what kind of software, games, applications, browsers
..only if a major court of justice told them after loong and expensive lawsuits. And then they still found ways not to publish all.
That's microsoft-politics right from the beginning.

looks like Ive seen the stupid side of Microsoft
i mean whats the point in keep the source code to yourself if id does not get u money
make the source code open to everyone or at least give the code to someone worthy of it...someone who can completely change it. someone like OP. HE can probably make it a lot better than he ever would with a mod.
And there is no harm in trying. -

i mean whats the point in keep the source code to yourself if id does not get u moneyAs I said, several reasons, some of which might be debatable in wisdom, but it is still their choice.
Among other things, the legal review costs in making a commercial product open source would be substantial. It would probably not be approved even if anyone wanted to put up the million bucks or whatever it would take to have the question properly reviewed.
Consider this: If Chris Roberts still had control of the intellectual property (IP) in Freelancer, do you think that he would be making half-assed movies instead of the best space sims in the world?
Microsoft bought out all of Digital Anvil and Roberts' IP. If anyone could do something great with the Freelancer source it would be the Digital Anvil team.
Asking the same question multiple times will not get you different answers, Hellraiser. If you want to debate Microsoft's wisdom, then go ahead and debate it... with Microsoft, please.

its strange that microsoft didn't released the code for such an old game ... they could give it to several communities like Swat-portal , didn't hurt anyone though. UT3 released for modding communities the graphic source code so... MS can do the same with FL , shame on them .
-
FL 2 for XBox is not too old atm...
-
FL 2 was just a project that MS canceled it if you don't recall.
-
I don't know why they could have cancelled FL 2... the videos on Youtube with it's graphics and complexy are BETTER THAN THE FREAKING SPACE SIMS NOW ! xD Ships switching and recomposing in-space at a ringed hangar and the nebulas, and all that... it's really a pain.
