Launcher stuck on 1.54

Hi

I am new here and have spent the last 4 hours downloading the mod, allowed it to upgrade on launching the FL, and waited for ever for this to complete.

The CF guide says nothing about the launcher not upgrading to 1.56 but being stuck on 1.54

It's downloading about 8 files every time i start it....

market_commodities.ini...then a few more then cf55, cf56 cf57 and then news.dll ...

I have restarted this about 20 times already and it keeps on downloading the same files

Any suggestions appreciated...

The Guide says I may not join the server as long as I don't have 1.56 ......and I can not seem to get it....

That is my problem... I have done that about 20 times already, and it stays on 1.54. I have even rebooted my pc, thinking that there may be a file in use.

Xp SP2
Yes I have full admin permissions - I did a clean FL installation twice already and downlaoded the 1.70 and 1.70a twice...
No - I have not removed r.o. attrib... let me try that and get back to you ...
No error numbers.... I have been playing the SP in the meantime ... very nice mod.....

same problem ... loads the files, run SP , Quite, go back .. still 1.54

It's like something is not updating......

File Versions

Freelancer.exe = 1.7.0.0
cfwd.exe = 1.07.0065

SEE on my userpage.. is an image i uploaded .. seems there is a socket conenction failure ????

I have opened up the UDP ports on the firewall and have also added he two exe's to the firewall exception lsit.

Yes quite a few times more than twice in fact. Running NTFS file system with Indexing ON and Disk Caching OFF.

Also running TortoiseVNC active and Visual Source Save ON.

I will experiment a bit during the coming weekend and let you know....

For now I am maxed out on SP level and just flying around and learning the map...

That is what I suspect... something on my computer stopping the update from happening.

I will experiment during the weekend to find out what the problem is, don't want to copy now as then I will not find the cause ofthe problem...

If you have some more programs running that have opend handles to the lauchner (dunno why you could use this) than the launcher cannot replace itself - due to opend handles. If you are advanced enough (seems so) you can have a look via the process monitor from sysinternals to determine if there are remaining handles of the launcher process...

Could the VNC application cause this behaviour? Maybe access limits?

I am not launching via VNC, but it does monitor file changes for checkin actions. I have not figured out yet how to stop it monitoring certain directories.

Source Save also monitors some of the fiels for me and does auto version control based on rules I defined. May also hold the launcher.

Now that I think about it, I have also had a problem with updating Sharpdev once and had to disable TortoiseVNC to get it to update.

Will see the weekend and run a few tests using process monitor and report back. There should be a 'in use file update' process ?!?

Found The Problem

Microsoft Office Groove 2007 has a monitor that runs, and as long as the monitor runs, the Freelancer Launcher is unable to update itself.

Up to 1.56 now and loading rest of files...
