One year ago I announced that the GLS would go down in 2008. Result: the TLR staff and several others claimed that this are lies and attacked me in public.
One year later the GLS does go down. So I guess I said the truth to the FL community and my information was 100% valid.
I could recall several other incidents where the same did happen and my words turned out to be true but this is not the topic now.
A few months we got the official information when the GLS will go down and what microsoft decided. This information has been published here and was also forwarded to TLR where admins decided this information is something that should be hidden and not given out to the FL community.
Meanwhile due to people which visited SWAT and due to spreading rumours almost the entire FL community is aware of that info. Good!
A few days ago we got the information that there is a chance to keep the GLS online for another year if we fullfill some conditions. Again I went to TLR to inform them and again this info disappeared somewhere in the dark. The FL community does not seem to be worthy to know about this chance nor does it seem to be worthy to decide about its own future in the eyes of TLR. In fact I was told by a TLR admin that this possible chance will not be considered.
Why?
Because TLR is working on own GLS Software and like the TLR admins announced at the last meeting this new software will have the ability to exclude/ban servers. At this meeting it also was said that every server has to comply with the rules that TLR will set up no matter if they want or not, no matter how these rules will look like.
Every server which does not agree to the rules or be part of the TLR community is risking to disappear from the GLS since TLR will have the total power of the Freelancer world.
As Crossfire server admin i can lean back now and watch the show. Crossfire is protected and the players wouldnt notice if the global list server is online or not, they wouldnt even notice if TLR does decide to ban our server.
Other servers dont have such a protection.
Why would i bother?
At the TLR meeting it was said that TLR has the highest priority, it doesnt matter if other communities die because of TLR, TLR has highest priority.
Guess what.... TLR has no priority. Freelancer is the only thing that is important and therefore we will support Freelancer and not TLR.
We support the different FL communities, the different FL mods and the different FL servers.
That means we have 2 options now.
1. we try to keep the old GLS online for another year and give a fuck about what TLR decides (this involves that the FL servers start to work together now)
or
2. we get the original GLS software (from what i have heard this is possible) modify it so it is able to run on a different server and host it for all FL servers out there
Option 2 is most likely the solution we are able to go for. But even then we will need to support of other FL communities and servers out there.
Now what could happen?
Yes if we host the GLS some ppl will start to say "but you have control over the GLS just like TLR and you will abuse these powers".
Thats why i dont want to host the new GLS here. The powers need to be seperated in order to control abusive intentions. We get the server, we do the needed changes to be able to run it and then the GLS will be hosted on a server which is independant from TLR, independent from SWAT and even independent from Freelancer.
No manipulations, no abuse.
That is what we do and then we will see where the FL server admins want to be presented. In a free world or with TLR.
SWAT is going to have only one responsiblity in this matter, the support of the FL community with information and help.
THATS WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER TO THE ENTIRE FL COMMUNITY
