Few things get gamers excited quite like BioWare’s Dragon Age an Mass Effect franchises. With deep stories and role-playing for days, these two entities are at the top of many people’s lists. That said, Casey Hudson recently had something to say about Dragon Age 4 and more Mass Effect, and fans are sure to be excited.

Speaking with Game Informer, the BioWare GM had a lot to say about their upcoming action RPG Anthem. However, it was the other staples of the studio that has received a bit of attention. When asked about the prospect of Dragon Age 4, he said:

I would say a majority of the people at BioWare are working on Anthem, but we do have people who are figuring out what a next Dragon Age would look like.”

Hot off the news of Anthem’s lead producer Ben Irving leaving BioWare, it has been revealed that another key member of the BioWare team is heading for different pastures. It has been announced that today was the last day for Fernando Melo, former Senior Producer for Dragon Age 4. Melo worked as a Senior Producer on Dragon Age Origins and its sequel, as well as companion apps for various games. Check out his announcement via Twitter below:

It was this past October when longtime BioWare developer Mike Laidlaw announced his retirement from the company after 14 years. Having been a leading creative force in not only the realm of Dragon Age, but also with the likes of Mass Effect and Jade Empire, Laidlaw’s departure was definitely an upset for fans of those epic adventures. Recently, he opened up about why he decided to leave BioWare, as well as what he’s been up to since his departure.

In the most recent episode of the The Game Informer Show podcast, Laidlaw revealed several of his current goings-ons, which includes his game-streaming exploits as well as his formal job of secretive consultant work with other studios. He also went on to discuss why he left BioWare, a decision he attributes to wanting a change of scenery following his extended 14-year experience with the studio. Laidlaw described the feeling as a “seven-year itch, times two”.

It looks like fans of older games may have a lot to look forward to from EA next year. The company recently released its prepared remarks for investors following the release of its quarterly financial results, some of which held some hints at what fans can expect from 2020 and beyond. Some of these upcoming offerings will be new IPs, while others will apparently be “fan favorite” remasters.

EA’s Blake Jorgensen spoke at length about what can be expected from the company next year, revealing that the plan is to “add at least one more sports title to our annual slate” and that it has “two new unannounced EA Partners titles coming from third-party developers.” Jorgensen also revealed that the plan is to “deliver some exciting remasters of fan favorites, including the Command and Conquer game we’ve already disclosed.”

BioWare is one of the most beloved studios in gaming for their story-driven focus and attention to detail when it comes to the RPG genre. Of the many series under their belt, Mass Effect and Dragon Age are arguably the most popular, but the two adventures may not have gotten off the ground had things gone a bit differently. In fact, we may have Electronic Arts’ notable BioWare acquisition to thank for either franchise being made at all.

This past weekend saw the LGBTQ-themed gaming convention HavenCon take place in Austin, Texas, where attendees were greeted by a few writers that worked on past BioWare projects. BioWare’s Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect series’ are two of the most beloved in all of gaming and a large part of this was due to the numerous contributions from writer Drew Karpyshyn. For the upcoming Anthem, Karpyshyn was revealed to have returned to the studio to work on the spacefaring project, confirming the news himself earlier last year. Inclusion of the Mass Effect 2 writer was reason to rejoice for many longtime fans, but it seems as though it wasn’t meant to last.

Announcing on his official website Karpyshyn revealed he is no longer working with BioWare and has begun pursuing other projects.
