Wing Commander fans love making maps… and we're no exception! I thought it would be fun to go through Wing Commander Academy and create a little 'atlas' showing all the systems and their features (planets, moons, jump points and so on) that we visit across the run of the show. And it was fun!

Intro: The show's introduction is a mix of new clips and stock ones from the show which are arranged to imply a little story (the pilots scrambling to fight off a Kilrathi attack). That story opens with an asteroid field.

Red and Blue: The first episode takes place on Sirius Prime (per the Confederation Handbook). The map seen in the command center seems to suggest the planet has six moons and is located near a small nebula (this is not how nebulae actually work). The Kilrathi blockade runner is hidden in said nebula, which also contains an asteroid field.

Last year, Shaggy created a pair of familiar corvettes in No Man's Sky. Now he's back with another ship! This time he's recreated the Errant-class merchantman, aka the Diligent from the Wing Commander movie!

For my third WC themed corvette I decided to to do the movie version of the Diligent. Obviously there are some structural differences, particularly in the horizontal stabilizers, and I went with a WC1 style paint scheme because I like it better and the black movie style is just a little too dark. Even the pictures in the Confed Handbook were pretty difficult to use on their own.

The interior layout is pretty similar to the Venture but there are a lot more Atlas cylinders and green chests, so if you see it in the anomaly and you have an Atlas pass feel free to raid it for supplies.

It turns out that the earliest preserved design pitch for Privateer 3 makes the unusual claim that "the closest thing to compare to this anti-utopian universe is the physical and social environment of Blade Runner, Max Headroom, or The Little Mermaid." The most iconic Kilrathi figher(and arguably the most iconic ship of the Wing Commander franchise), the Dralthi! Again, went with a post-war look so I kept it cleaner than the Vaktoth as it'd stay at home more. I'd love to do a corvette, but I don't think the Cats legitimately kept any post-treaty. (post)
