I recently emailed the guy who owns the on-line Crossfire database about helping update it to include 1.8 maps and info. but I found out from him that he is no longer continuing the update and will not be coming back to Crossfire.

He did tell me if Myself or anyone I knew with a bit of programming under there belt could take over the site and make it our own to do with as we pleased.

I would like to learn some Php/js code and do it all myself but I don't think I am the right person for the job of coding/writing the database, I do have ideas for an updated on-line database for 1.8 (like a story/quest section you can go to for help with the clues)

I have realised this database is used by a whole bunch of people who play CF but I still come across a lot who obviously have not heard of it...

I think it is a very helpful tool for those who have already explored pretty much everything or have made new accounts and still need a map reference for travelling around the systems...

It will always exist as a bit of a spoiler for people new to the game but I think the mod has always presented new surprises whenever I visit a new system for the first time, even if I found my way there via the database.

I would like to hear peoples views on whether this database should exist as it is, or be fully updated (perhaps by one of our own community members or a friend you know with programming skills) and I am sure there might be people who may not like the database and think of it as a huge spoiler to a game based on exploration of the unknown... :)

    Link to site:

I have no problem fighting Nomads, I can take on a fleet of nomads and about 3 DK gunships and come out smoking but that's the hardest thing I've come up against in an APC or tempest...

As for making the clues and stories easier to follow, I mean just that, not making anything else easier, there's enough amazing stuff going on as a challenge to anyone...

I found the clues on the way to Altair and in Altair much easier to follow than what ever I'm meant to be doing in Sirius and X...

The main problem with some of the wrecks you find or info to read is you have to spend time in a hostile system reading them or you have to take a screenshot, which not everyone is inclined to do or does all the time...

I'm just sure there is a better way of setting up the quest and giving people the right information and clues so they no longer get it all mixed up... Almost everyone I have talked to who has not been playing this game for the past 3 years has the same problems as I do...

but yeah, I have my own way of doing things as many others have as well and it may make some aspects of the game slip past and I concentrate on other areas...

I would like people who know the Full path of the Quest to write it up here or in a new thread in 'spoiler steps' so anyone can come on here and see what they missed or where to go next so as not to miss a chapter in the story :

Well my main point still stands, that there is not enough direct information about how to get to X... and people are going to end up bumping into later parts of the quest if they explore to find the route to X... but lets say we get to X and realise the system we need to go to is Nomads lair (obvious really)

Ok i have been playing for a while now and I knew there was a quest to find the Kusari fleet fighting the nomads BUT there was no indication as to how you were meant to FIND OUT MORE, there is nothing specifically telling you at the start in Manhattan to go anywhere or do anything specific.

So I seem to have missed out on that quest because I FOUND the kusari fleet randomly searching for a data disc worth 9million to kick start my character without begging a player for money!

I am not sure whether all the quests tie into each other or if there are more than one or if they are all separate, But I found a wreck with info on it but it refers to characters and events I have not heard of yet (some guy called jack, something about co-ordinates, in the coalition sleeper ship).

If you are going to have a huge universe to explore freely then there should be the MOST DIRECT instructions in the quest stories and wrecks FROM THE START.
because I have no Idea where the quest starts or how it ends up in Sol or Altair or even the Inner core!
It is so annoying because I know a lot of work went into making this story/quest but it is failing due to the lack of direction and information at the beginning!

So my main question is: Where do I start the Quest?

I want to know what a NEW player is meant to do if he/she starts in Manhattan and reads all the info in planet Manhattan's bar and the immediate surrounding stations? Are they meant to know what to do next?

Because I see no indication of what a new player is meant to do, Any normal freelancer would just explore into the X-systems or end up being shown where to go to get amazing ships and weapons and that ruins it for them!

I see new players come on-line who may have only played the original SP or Discovery (if not completely new to the game!) and they ask for HELP, Why should so many new players feel so lost and confused?
If this mod is to be recognised for it's full glory then a new player should be swept up by the quest/story and not need to ask for help because they get all they need from info in Bars and on wrecks...
They should progress smoothly from Manhattan to the stations and planets surrounding, then to nearby systems where they come across harder enemies, better guns and info on how to get to planet Crossfire or wherever they need to go next...

If there was enough guiding and direction for new players to follow right from the start, instead of the odd player flying around telling them about the inner core or how to farm ancients for guns, then we would not spoil it for them and they might learn some stuff on there own without it being spoiled for them...

I myself would love to help out new players the best way I can, I will give them some credits and some helpful advice on the game mechanics (like selling pods at prisons) and tell them to talk to everyone in the Bars and read all the descriptions of planets and stations. Since so much work was put into the READING in Crossfire it almost feels like a Book :D

So congrats on some amazing writing, it just needs to be smoothed out a bit :)

I wonder if any of the jump holes in sirius will close up or move position over time? ;)

There's bound to be a massive conflict at the jump to Styx or on that route anyway, it's only a matter of time!

Went to Devron for the first time yesterday, Utopia is such a cool system :D

ah yes i remember those, shame they were not real NPC's... just stationary ship models, very nice yes :D

Some of the ASF/CSF battleships are awesome, would be cool to mount that flak gun on a player's battleship!

sorry have to ask what is ship9 ???

I definitely think Crossfire is more deserving of publicity on the scale that Discovery has, I am going to spread the word!

I have been thinking the only thing that Crossfire needs is a proper 'Introduction' for the Freelancer Noob. Since Crossfire is essentially Freelancer on steroids it would be nice if new players had a tutorial on basic controls and how they should be used as well as how the game works, included in the Mod Download... But yeah, just a thought...

Crossfire 1.8 is the BEST game I have ever played! I thought 1.7 was great but I was Noob back then and couldn't get into it but in 1.8 I am so impressed with the detail and vastness of the whole game!

I can't really say there is anything bothering me with the game lol... I have just been exploring and clicking on everything in the stations reading the stories and info on everything... which is the most impressive part of 1.8 the sheer depth of the reading is amazing for a game like this. I am even aware of stories having connections throughout the systems and universe! :D

    So congratulations on everything!

(I had an issue with Bloom but I didn't know you could turn it off! lol)

Ok I had similar problems and there are some things you can do and some things you might have problems doing...

The main problem will be your reputation, it means most of the places you would normally go to buy ships and upgrades might be hostile to you... try going a bit further afield to the border systems to find higher level ships...

Try going back to a save where you don't have a way point mission (even if it's to talk to Juni) and go to the CF systems then, if you try to go to CF systems with a single player mission objective the game crashes when it tries to plot a path back to your objective.

You basically need to make good use of the time between missions to get upgrades and better ships, once you earn enough money it will tell you to go talk to juni but you can refuse to go with her on the next mission more often than not. That's the time you can use to really make some money and get the best ship you can.

I am not sure if I managed to get ships from CF systems during the SP campaign but it is possible... you just have to figure out how to do it when the game is not plotting a path to your next objective, as that seemed to be the problem making the game crash and you are then stuck with going back to an earlier save...

try saving money for the upgrades you can buy at the bases in the house systems, and use the changes in Reputation to get into bases when you can. Try making your reputation neutral once you have enough money by blowing up storage depots of the factions you are most green with, then you can go out and buy up the upgrades before continuing the mission...

basically you should explore as much as possible when you can, dock with every base you come across looking for those upgrades :)

I wish people could stand back and see things from a neutral point of view.

Bad things happen in our world because people believe in different things, people will die before standing back from there beliefs and leaving people alone...

Debate is good, I like debate, it's how people come to an understanding of each other and the subject in hand, but people never seem to realise that unless you try to find common ground with each other then it will just turn into an argument.

You don't NEED to prove anything to anyone, if you believe that someone is being lied to, or that you know the truth and you have to tell everyone then step back before saying anything.

You must call into question why you feel angry, why it matters that you must express that anger and whether there is a way of coming together and seeing the problem from the same side.

I feel I have to tell you my belief only because I wish to make a point in general:

9/11 was the most publicized act of bringing hatred to the world I have witnessed in my life and the day I saw the live feeds on every TV channel I knew in the depths of my heart that it was all wrong, that this is not the way the world should be.

I knew it was staged, every fibre of my intellect said those towers should not have "fallen" the way they did.

there is so much to say here I can't even type it out concisely. Basically I believe we have all been played by our governments, that even the terrorists from the middle east or the marines from the US or the NATO forces from Europe are all fighting for NO GOOD REASON, because fighting is wrong, killing is wrong and people don't seem to realize it!

I don't see why we even have weapons to kill each other, or why we have urges for violence, and the media just makes killing and warfare 'fun' and like a 'game'...

Maybe we are all just animals fighting over territory, these wars are just extensions of our animalistic nature, Money is our territory and our nation is our pride of females to protect...

If that is the case then I believe this will go on forever until we are all dead, until we are all governed by the same law and religion or until we find a state of balance as is the case in nature untouched by man.

So these debates are just the same as the Americans going into another country and killing people and the same as terrorists blowing themselves up in America or Lions chasing down a zebra...

My only thought and belief that things will be ok and that life can be good despite all the people wanting to kill each other or fuel there rage and righteousness is that I am good, and I don't harm people.

I am aware of how much of a luxury it is to live in my country and at the expense of other countries.

I am aware of being moulded by the world that surrounds me and I know I think very differently from a person brought up amongst crime or poverty or warfare.

So I can only humbly say these things as my own personal belief and I can not challenge another human being on their belief.

The world is a shit place, but if you can find a common ground with someone then you can both fix some shit together.

P.S. Who here protested the war in iraq?

yeah I guess, I must admit I care very little for copyright etc. I have a firm morale standing on such matters based on the freedom of all information uploaded to the internet or published in any media that can be copied or duplicated... I dunno, I have never found a good reason to prevent someone from accessing someone's music/art/work that is distributed in any public medium... I do believe people who create the music/art/work should be paid for there effort in donation and even government grants but hey, we don't live in that society... I will continue my search for a way to retrieve the music within elsewhere... :D

Nice to see that OP is professional about all this stuff and reminding folks of permission to use material and music/art... :)
