Not that I'm entirely sure on this subject, but I DO know that the mod itself has an MSINET.ocx included and stands for Microsoft Internet Transfer Control, according to what I've found, it's a VB ( Visual Basic ) component.

Reading up on this I found that it's supposedly in the system32 folder but is not shipped with XP. However, Media Center Edition is not an OS I'm familiar with. You could try updating VB6 from M$ or DL the newer version od MSINET.OCX version 6.00.8862 from; http://www.afreeocx.com/ocx/info/msinet_ocx.html
or version 6.01.9782 from; http://www.ocxdump.com/downloa…X/6.01.9782/download.html Into the system32 folder. Using Run type in c:\regsvr32.exe msinet.ocx and hopefully fix the problem.

This is the only advice I can offer.

Not that this might be of use, but did you reboot the Pc after installing Freelancer, as it apparently modifies the registry / system files. I also found that there's a hidden file in the My Documents\user name\Local Settings\Applications\Freelancer called FLSpew.txt which FL uses to store game info, it also uses this info in any error reports that are sent back to M$ in the event the game crashes.

I had the same problem, common.dll error, so I downloaded the mod a 2nd time, and both d/l's are 195 MB (205,377,700 bytes). As stated in another post, I had some serious crashes until I did an online upgrade for DirectX and I've not had the common.dll error since, although it has crashed to the desktop a couple of times, but deleting the autosave via FLMM resolved that.

These are called SYN attacks, similar to DoS - Denial of service.

    More info

The SYN flood attack sends TCP connections requests faster than a machine can process them.

    * attacker creates a random source address for each packet
    * SYN flag set in each packet is a request to open a new connection to the server from the spoofed IP address
    * victim responds to spoofed IP address, then waits for confirmation that never arrives (waits about 3 minutes)
    * victim's connection table fills up waiting for replies
    * after table fills up, all new connections are ignored
    * legitimate users are ignored as well, and cannot access the server
    * once attacker stops flooding server, it usually goes back to normal state (SYN floods rarely crash servers)
    * newer operating systems manage resources better, making it more difficult to overflow tables, but still are vulnerable
    * SYN flood can be used as part of other attacks, such as disabling one side of a connection in TCP hijacking, or by preventing authentication or logging between servers.

In OpenSP at Sol I bought a frieghter, but not before I'd saved the game in case I'd screwed up, but then it said I had to be level 50 to buy cargo pods.

I read the tutorial on modding the ptough.ini to increase the max level, but it says that SP is only capable of going to max level 40.

My point is, why have these items if the level requirement is higher than can be achieved? and is it possible to work around this issue?

I had that problem too, a WD SATA II and I used The Ultimate Boot CD ( UBCD ) to access the SATA HDD, you can use that to extract the NTLDR from the windows CD to the SATA drive. It also has a disk checking utility that will show if the hdd has any bad sectors.

As it happens, my WD 300 gig drive was damaged about 1 gig into the hdd and has now been replaced.

Did you change the options when you activated the mod?

If not, you should tell the FLMM program to "Restore Backups" as deactivating the mod will cause it to crash.

Once the backups are restored, reactivate the mod and in the popup options, right-hand side, change the option from normal single player to OpenSP, start a new game and that should solve your problem

Yep, I did :) I loaded a normal SP game and Ozu directed me there, so I dived below the minefield and just headed to his coordinates.

As it happens, I'd already mapped the system but missed the wreck because of heavy fire from the Dom'Kavash gate etc, and I agree, giving an exact location might not be within the spirit of the game, but sometimes we all need a helping hand, that's why forums were/are created.

As an added note, my soundcard just went down, so now I'm using the mobo sound system and it seems to have resolved some of the issues.

I wouldn't normally ask, but in view of certain probs with a couple of Altair / DK systems, I can't locate the 3rd sleepership ( Stalin ), having found 2 black boxes in the DK systems, I can't find the 3rd scoutship.

So my request is, 1/ are all 3 coalition sleeperships in Sovetskaya? if so I'll continue searching that system.

2/ aside from Mira and Mitra, which I've mapped successfully, is the 3rd scout wreck in Ptah? ( I get severe screen probs in the Ice ) or one of the other systems?

Any help is greatly appreciated as I am going in hospital soon and may not not be able to complete this quest or use the Pc for 6 months.

    my system is

    AMD Sempron 3400+ 2.0GHZ
    1 gig Patriot DDR400 mem
160 gig Maxtor IDE + 1 80 gig Seagate Sata HDD
ATI Radeon X1600 512meg DDR 2 Video Card
    Creative Audigy 24bit Soundcard
    525 Watt PSU

All drivers are the newest available

As for FL background info, I've tons of it. IE; the red hessians were German elite mercenaries employed by the 1,000's and shipped by the British to fight the Americans in the 1700's.

What I find interesting about CF is the fact that commodities change locations - ie; whiskey ( whisky ) prices change and swap planets, this is the same in reality, Red Label was available in the Uk until a few years ago when local sales were stopped and this product can now only be bought overseas. As an ex Merchant Naval Engineering Officer I travelled 7.5 million miles around this planet and saw products that were local but as trading efficiency has increased, some of these products are available worldwide, so no probs from me on this issue.

As for ships themselves, I'm using a Bullpup Freighter and I like it a lot, good cargo space, carries 9 weapons, 3 of them L9 turrets, but some ships simply don't perfom as their specs would have you believe. This again is similar to reality, a new car might sound great, a typical sales ploy, but once bought you might then find it's not what you expected, a kind of ' horses for courses'.

Systems however could do with being toned down slightly, I've 1 gig of DDR 400, with a X1600 Radeon Pro 512 meg, but still get screen freeze in both the DK systems and at Yakutsk.

One thing of note however is; Gaia or Gaea, known as Earth or Mother Earth (the Greek common noun for "land" is ge or ga). She was an early earth goddess and it is written that Gaia was born from Chaos, the great void of emptiness within the universe, and with her came Eros. She gave birth to Pontus (the Sea) and Uranus (the Sky). This was achieved parthenogenetically (without male intervention). Other versions say that Gaia had as siblings Tartarus (the lowest part of the earth, below Hades itself) and Eros, and without a mate, gave birth to Uranus (Sky), Ourea (Mountains) and Pontus (Sea).

Therefore the Sol System is represented in the Vanilla FL as Edinburgh, which means there are 2 Earths.

Manhattan is known as The Devil's Kitchen, The Dyson's Sphere would represent Styx, The Ames Research Centre and the Kepler mission is part of Nasa, thus The Boridin Space Station duplicates what is already there.

Having said all this I love CF, but it's very annoying having too many ships spawning so frequently, which I guess is why the Vanilla FL was reduced to the basic setup, and why some mods simply don't work.

Sorry to bore you with these details, but I think it best I get them off my chest.

On one final note, CF does have a few missing details, mineable / unmineable areas are detected but don't show, the number of new wrecks do not tally with the readme file. Missions aren't as one would expect as some are right in the centre of a minefield, or areas that aren't accessible.

As for MP / RP, that is not what I bought the game for, as I design my own own birthday cards etc for non-commercial use, and being an admin on a few other forums means I simply don't have time.

All in all, this one excellent forum, and I greatly appreciate the hard work you modders do.
