It hasn't been down since yesterday. It has been up most of today up to about an hour and a half ago. There has been some lag and a few crashes.

Thank for the information. Yesterday night went down, around 2200 GMT, and I waited for over an hour and never came back online. I just got home from work and thought that was still down since yesterday. Well I hope it come back online soon.

OP is punishing us¡¡¡ we are bad boys/girls, and we deserve it¡¡¡

maybe some backups running in backgroud ?
-
Could be anything but it does seem a little strange

Sure would be nice if the SP's had the power to reset the server. Then OP wouldnt have to keep watching 24/7.

i simply need a new telnet console for the SPs that can run custom commands
then they could restart the server -
-
putty is a client software... but i need a server console
-
errmmm,
sorry but use the telnet server from your win32 server services, nothing more is needed - but stop the service everytime before rebooting the server it won´t do it themself and causes problems than...

that win server sux
ive read the manual and after reading 15 pages of pure nonsense i still dont know how to setup a server
especially that the instruction seems not to be correct -
well just start the service!
You will have access via the comand line telnet command.
And write a batch wich will end the service first and then shutdown the host bec. the telnet server needs a long time to be shut down.
Btw. i suggest a vpn tunneling with the remote access console would do the job easier. Even you would have complete graphical access and the possibility to use the active Directory services with it´s system of rights...

which command line?`which service
ive read tons of pages about this crap telling me to thousands of settings but nothing on the stupid manual did really show how to set up that shiti prefere a different tool or no tool if the result is that i have to waste hours for nothing

Hm a tool for configure a telnet server is also not known to me. But what about the windows telnet service. It should be already included within the service list - normally you only have to activate it. Thats the first step.
Now it depends on what security access every single client should have. But i think you can do this with normal user management from windows too. Givin access to one directory (basically the users home directory - in this case the user is a telnet user.) And within this directory i would put some batch files that should do whatever you want to do and that is possible with batch files ;D
Yesterday i found some information on microsoft tech net sites. I am not sure because i self never did this. Maybe OP you're right - you lost hundreds of hours to configure the telnet server as you would like to have it working...

that windows telnet server shit is not working or at least i dont get it working
and i dont have the time for this crapa standalone telnet server would be better because very likely you enter the port and run that damn thing without the need to read tons of manuals with tons of parameters but no sign of the server itself

if he cant see the service on the list, then maybe its not installed, i think its optional on most windows O/S's. just do add/remove windows components.
about what Kerm said about stopping and starting the service, heres some code to cut n paste in vs.net and build a little .exe to start/stop the service.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-…ss.servicecontroller.stop(vs.80).aspxalternatively, like huor said, some simple batch files for SP's to click on. and why use telnet, a standard built in windows remote desktop to a specific account, takes a few seconds to set up, and is very flexible about what you can allow them to do. thats what i do all the time.

if your heart set on a freeware telnet server, i done a search and found one...
