Ok, I got the mod, activated it, It worked great, But when I de-activated it, it said something like:"A problem has occoured, backup files (strongly recomended)" I clicked OK and it deactivated.
Then when I reactivate, I says the same thing, then doesent activate... 
Any ideas?
Uninstall and reinstall freelancer, after you remove crossfire from your system. It won't deactivate correctly.
Ive tried uninstalling the Freelancer game, the Mod Manager, and the Crossfire Mod. and reinstalling everything. When I tried activating it got to the last peg and said this over and over again.
Error: problem activating 'Crossfire Mod 1.70 Client Edition'
Error: SHCopyFile failed ('C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\Data\Missions\M01A\m01a_01.thn.flmmbak' to 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\Data\Missions\M01A\m01a_01.thn')
Try un-install reboot, reinstall reboot play....worked for me {while my puter was workin anyway...mine kinda dont wanna know at moment so pinched the missus' k/board >;)} delete all the FL folders after un-install too
Ya, as Screamer stated... Delete all Freelancer folders and files... make sure to save you ID Number... I had the similiar problem and diagnosed it... It just doesn't deactivate correctly.
So....
Uninstall
Remove all files... (ie delete freelancer folder where ever you installed it.)
Remove Crossfire (in the mod folder, you'll have to reinstall crossfire...)
Reboot the computer...
Then install freelancer, then crossfire, and try that...
It should work.
I didnt think there was a difference but I have Mod Manager v1.3
