all links go to the x86 version, is there a x64 version?
The version I upload before the x86 should be the x64. You should switch to the versions tab and select the 0.9.12 x64 one
found a little bug: It can happen that the EXE2 folder will still be visible and if thats the case, the launcher will not launch the game, it just updates the files. If I delete the EXE2 Folder then problem is fixed. (i can delete it without any problems, so the launcher should also be able to)
Hm, great that you reported it. I will have a look in more than a week. Still on vacation without PC - kinda coding break.
Thought it should overwrite an existing exe2 folder - but as you did report it is not.

Yes its fixed. the EXE2 will always be wiped correctly. i could reproduce it with the old version but not with the newer one.
Since there is x86 and a x64 version now... that complicates it for users that dont know which one to take.
And essentially it makes patching the mod more complicated.
Question for me right now is which version to take and put into CF.
x86 for compatibility reasons?
Are there disadvantages over x64?
To be compatible i would suggest using the 32 bit version. The 64 bit version has no noticeable benefit here - it was more or less the platform set i started the development with.

I experimented with deleting and updating the game files, and at some point, it became clear that several .dll files were missing for the game to run. I decided to try a clean install on the newly installed Windows, so I had to look for installation files. I found several archived versions of different dates and sizes on various websites, but the link to Google Drive (8 GB) doesn’t work due to a file size limit (I downloaded it from there several years ago). I also needed to find an installer for the original Freelancer. There are numerous complex installation instructions in different places, with additions and comments))) All this is mixed with various versions of translations, many of which are outdated, cause errors, and crash during updates)))
1. Found and installed the original Freelancer
2. Found and installed the CF 2.0 mod
3. Found out that the version doesn’t run on my computer’s configuration
4. Gave up on the clean install and restored the launch from the backup folder)))
Finding the necessary files and installation instructions on SWAT-Portal is also quite challenging, at least for foreigners who don’t speak English or those who aren’t familiar with the site.
It’s not surprising at all that there are only veterans in the game))
Suggestions: add a manual function to the launcher to check the overall integrity of the game files, with the option to directly download them (currently, the startup check doesn’t cover all files). Consider installing from scratch through the launcher, without downloading outdated archives and installing the original game (apparently, a file is needed to add information to the registry, without which the mod cannot be installed). Or collect the files (or links to the files) for a clean install in one place with clear instructions fnd add this to a separate section on the website.
No, we cant include every file for download. If you break it manually then you have to clear it manually. No modern games has it - when you delete necessary files, then the game is broken and you have to install it again.
The launcher checks already the integrity of the the files contained in the update - that is quite a lot of files already.
If you try to mod yourself and hence change and delete files now and then, then you need a backup alternative - this is not what the launcher is supposed to cover.
I don't quite agree - the game file integrity check exists in Steam, War Thunder, Valorant, and a number of other games.
Secondly, I don't suggest making a mandatory full game file check, as it takes a lot of time and resources (and there are much more important tasks), but as an option in the future. Since this feature works for updates, I believe it could be implemented as a separate menu item for checking all game files.
Hi Elk,
the Launcher only updates files which came after 2.0, So if you change or delete files which where already in the original installer and has not been updated yet then the launcher will not check them. So in this way, the launcher is already dummy friendly as the normal user will not change files in the CF Folder.
Anyways, there is a workaround for that:
- Make a clean CF install and let the launcher update CF so its fully patched. Use the new launcher, its way faster.
- now create a zip from that crossfire folder, then you have a clean install in a zip file (I recommend 7zip for that, it makes really small archives).
- if you have issues with your install, just remove everything inside "Freelancer Crossfire" and extract that zip again ... no need to ever reinstall CF again.
