Only IDS? and missing item name and descriptions for some new cf items?

    Hi Community,

    A happy new year!

    Took FL out after so many years and finished vanilla 1.0

    Now looking for more just came across this breathtaking mod!


    Install of 2.0.1 went fine, CF does launch and works so far :)


    There is just one major issue, for a couple of new ship items (some weapons, accessories etc) and also ships in space I dont see names and partly also no item description or picture.

    The item names are just IDS?

    But thats not the case for all new items.

    Its the same if I start a new CF SP game or if I load one of the original vanilla 1.0 saves.

    Some new ships in space are just not.named nor decribed when scanned.


    Why is that?


    And as s side question, were are all the additional option settings in CF 2.0.1 laucher? Just find shaders, cursor and particel settings, but e.g. not the June outfit and other smal settings mentioned in the various wikis and threats for pre 2.0 launcher.

    missing IDs mean that the file containing that stuff can not be loaded

    the most likely reason for that is that the file does not even exist


    why it does not exist on your installation is not known to me

    did you delete something?

    did you installed some strange patches that are incompatible?

    did you use any other mods which could have overwritten stuff?





    The other options only exist on the installer.

    If you want to change them you have to run the installer again (which btw would be recommended to fix the IDs issue).

    Wow, thanks for the utmost quick response.

    However, re-ins does not change the issue unfortunately.

    Also de and re ins FL before, but no change.


    Which files would be the ones I have to look at for sample screenshots attached?


    -did you delete something? > No

    Some other facts:

    -Run Win10 build 1909

    -Language and regional settings are US

    -FL and CF are installed on D drive (not OS drive)

    -FL installed from an ISO


    The other options only exist on the installer.

    hard to tell which file since the ids are stored in multiple

    sol.dll maybe

    namesresources.dll


    impossible to tell based on these pics


    but those dlls are clearly included in the installer, they should not be missing after installing the mod

    I have no clue.

    Yes, savegames have been removed.


    I tried another full re ins, this time FL "for all users" with local admin account.


    1. De ins CF and FL

    2. Deleted all remaining FL folders

    3. Re ins FL from English iso file

    4. Re ins CF

    5. Launch CF and start a new SP


    Still same, same items as before only have the IDS? And no description.

    What could I do?


    Another thing just to mention but this should not be the cause: this PC is protected by Forcepoint Endpoint protection which blocks internet access for the launcher. Cant disable or create rule since it is domain controlled - however, when disconnected from the internet CF launcher just comes up offline and no block report from Forcepoint.

    Since all components should be included in the CF installer package internet connection should not be required for SP, and surely not to get the files which are *maybe*? Missing for the issue I have.

    Tried on my previous laltop with a fresh dl of the 2.0.1 installer but the same.

    Also left install dir as default for both Fl and CF.

    This is also Win10 US English machine.


    Then tried on the even older laptop, win7 US english machine with same installer files used before - and et voila here it works!??? No IDS? For any item?


    What could be the issue on my win 10 machines?

    like i already said... missing IDs are most likely caused by missing files

    why they are missing is not known to me since they are part of the installation


    i cant tell why your PC has such problems

    it would be nice to know if the dll files are actually missing and which one it is

    Hello Doomlord,

    try comparing the contents of the Crossfire folder on Win 7 laptop vs the contents of the Crossfire folder on Win 10 machines.

    This will probably give you the answer.


    Or, if you just need to get the game working, copy the folder from laptop to other PCs (after CF has been installed on them as well).

    Got the same idea of just copying the whole CF folder from the Win7 to the Win10 laptop - and it works.

    Now I missed to compare the differences before doing so.

    If I find some time I shall de and re ins CF on my old Win10 laptop to reproduce the issue and then compare.


    I managed to run the launcher on the Win7 laptop with internet access and it was finding updates.

    Maybe that was the trick.

    But it would mean the CF 2.0.1 installer is missing files.

    The first time start of the launcher was updating 83 files.

    Strange is that after that at EVERY following launcher start it reports updates available and updates 80 files each time.

    Tried 5 times and always the same. Is this normal?


    In case Im able to identify the differences I shall report asap!

    Yep, this is normal. The launcher synchronizes your client with the server every time, as required for the dynamic universe feature and anti-cheat functions.

    I try to make the comparism soon and will report.


    For the launcher update which applies 80 updates everytime.


    Since I intend to play SP only on my recent Win10 machine, where Forecpoint blocks access to moddb webpage for the launcher, will there be an impact sooner or later for the SP campaign if the installer will never be able to access the update server?

    when you have the 2.0.1 installer then the launcher only provides the daily market and universe updates and the bug fixes I released prior xmas

    Im getting the same issue with crossfire 2.0.1. I took a look in the equipresources.dllaand apparently the file lacks information for both in the string.txt file and the html folder for tractor beams above the light tractor beam and scanners above the deep scanner meaning that those turn up as IDs? In game. This also would explain why only those items seemed to be throwing the IDs? sign. Everything else in the mod seems to be working fine.

    I did a fresh installation yesterday and i dont think anything is missing here

    I was having a similar problem and resolved it by adding explicit whitelist entries in my firewall software for the launcher and launcher updater. This allowed the launcher to connect to the internet and perform an update, after which the items appear in vendors properly.


    Of note, my firewall was not logging a block event for the launcher or updater. I also don't know why the files were missing in the first place, despite a clean install. Antivirus is an obvious suspect, but it allowed them to come through the updater, and didn't block other .dll files.
