Neophobos

  • Hello,

Someone in multiplayer informed me that DaD hasn't been around in "ages." (Their expression.) Does that make Neophobos sort of a dormant/closed system? I saw in their rules that nobody was allowed in without asking, regardless of clan affiliation.

I was hoping for the opportunity to ask permission to buy a ship there.

Seems sort of a shame that all the ships there are effectively off-limits. That Gunstar is a smart-looking piece of flying equipment.

  • I was sort of wondering the same thing...maybe OP or a SP could give a good answer. They seem inactive though; if you were to sneak in I suppose DaD would never figure out.

  • I think if no one is going to be on the server to support that clan over a long period of time should just be removed from the server or open the system to all players. From what i noticed not only the DaD clan but the Fallen clan hasent been around for quite some time.

    Man, that is tempting.

Who dares go into the Neophobos system...the shiny, golden, sparkly Neophobos system...the jolly, colorful, candy-like Neophobos system.

But this raises a question: how long can you lease a system in absentia ? There are many active clans and active players out there that would love a piece of real-estate; and yet there's not that much prized real-estate to go around.

  • I suppose there's nothing special about the system, but the fact that the clan is never around peeves me. Lol, I stopped waiting for them to show up a few weeks ago. I've been milling around the system as if it isn't owned since, and I've never really found anything to do in there except explore and do a little wreck-hunting. My guess is that DaD is never coming back, but who knows? As long as they're paying for the system, let them have it, hehehe. As for Fallen, they're rarely around, but I have seen them come back after long leaves before. At some point or another you'll spy one of them...

Yes, but more than a third of the X-3043-accessible systems are already taken, and each of these systems has restrictions against entry, to one degree or another. That is their right: I am not disputing that; but read to the end and perhaps you'll understand my main point.

Neophobos seems, to me, not a bad little system; and as I mentioned I really like the Gunstar. Baene wants people to fly his ships, I would venture to guess; the Gunstar's a well-designed ship that no one gets to use. Effectively removing ships from circulation is a waste of the shipwrights' efforts and detracts from the richness of the CF mod.

Two or more systems appear to be rented by clans that are all-but-nonexistent. A few clans have strict rules barring anyone from so much as entering without explicit permssion, no matter if the other party belongs to another server clan or is a freelancer. One clan says, in so many words, that "no ppl are allowed until further notice" (forgive the misquote).

Outsiders are expected to stay out of these systems and not buy their ships without asking, even when no member of the clan is on the server. Again, this seems fair enough. It's their space -- they paid for it.

But some clans, I gather, have not been seen in multiplay or in this forum for weeks (months?) on end.

I certainly would not want to see a trend of "spoken for" systems that are kept locked away in cold storage.

It certainly would not serve to add excitement to the game!

If entire systems are left to their own stagnation -- off-limits, abandoned, and isolated from the rest of CF -- space could get to be a pretty dull place.

  • Yes, you're right of course; I was just editing my statement regarding that, even as you must have been typing yours in.

  • What's the going rate on a system, by the way? Or is that a private matter taken on a clan-by-clan basis?

  • DaD & fallen are not here plus last time I check on global stats the brotherhood of steel was running another mod which wasnt CF so who knows. Same goes for fallen...But if they pay their rent, still their system. Just need to ask OP if they still paying their rent...

However, from last Database update, only Fallen appear in it where DaD no...

    regards,

    RG

PS: Btw, the rate for renting a system is 20 euros per month.

  • As a personal note, and only that, I'd say if a clan system is not occupied for a long period of time and a person, chooses to buy a shp there, then they should make every effort if they ever see one of that clan system again to tell them straight away of their purchase. This I would, I hope, alieveiate any hostility towards anyone flying a ship from that sytem.

Everyone should pretty well, as uindicated by the messages above, know which systems are active. An ounce of simple curtiousy goes a long way.

    Thanks, admin!

BTW I recently bought a new VHF in a different open system. The darned thing is a VHF but it handles like a Starflier. I almost feel guilty about flying it. If I had read the admin's post first I prob'ly would have went and bought the Gunstar. Now, though, I am in no hurry to get rid of the more agile ship I currently own, even though I maintain that the Gunstar is a fine ship and one of the best-looking user created ships I have ever seen.

Thanks again for opening the system!

  • The "VHF"s in this mod are composed of every class of fighter supporting level 10 guns pretty much. You probably happened upon one of the light fighters (which would handle as such). There's a good balance between the ships' weapon mounts, armor, cargo space, and manueverability/speed. The trick is to find a ship that fits your needs in each of those areas :D .
