  • I realise i am noob but as with all of us here my experiance is not limated to cf

after wanting to take a larger intrest in the community of cf other than playing, I have spent time over the last 2 weeks to read many forum posts in order to try to get "a feel for the place" as it were

this is in all truth a fantastic online community and is supported by many pasionate members, but the overview is controlled by one man (op) and responsibillity delegated down from him to a small band
of dedicated people to which all members new and veteran owe so much.

although i have seen many instances of arrogance, inflexability and autocracy from op, this in my opinion does not always constitute a bad thing in the role of a leader and in this case i cant say that any other system
    would be as effective.

any community from a small club of likeminded poeple or a town, city even a country all relies on a certain amount of autocracy and executive powers of "a man at the top" the reason for this is true commitie rule has never been affective. i belive there is more than a few students of history frequent these pages whom i am sure would agree with me certainly to the point of there always being "a man at the top" and for one reason or another commitie rule has never worked. in my opinon
never will the patrition like way op rules this server is
entirley appropriate and has ensured its longeverty thus far and may it continue for lond to come.

to op i hope i have not caused offence with "although i have seen many instances of arrogance, inflexability and autocracy from op" as none were meant.

from what i have seen op tirelessley listens to opinions
and suggestions and as never been cruel or deriding when these opinions have not been applicable and has only ever stamped athority when suggestions have been more of critisium than attempts to better the home of cf we all Know and love

The whole vain of these treads have remided me of one of my early role models words "leadership is 1% giving orders 99% keeping the overview. op does this well,
something we all must respect and some of us need to remember a little more. i do not exclude myself from this.

i hope i have caused no offence and this post is only an opinion that i have formed in the short time i have been trying to take more of an intrest in the community side of the game i have enjoyed playing so much

thankyou op and keep up the good work

  • all I can say is that Op may seem arrogance, inflexability and autocracy, but in the end he listen, for an exemple look in the threads that have been made about CF 1.5X and you will discouver that many of the suggestions that have been made (at leat the ones that made sense) have been put on the 1.6.
So one thing I can say, maybe he haves a bad temper (I don't know since I don't meet him personaly) but he does read our posts and take in consideraty.

  • The only problem I see in this kind of community, is that all the material base of it is detained by one person, the one wich controls the server... so, the others, basically, have no rights, and are subjected to the altruism of the "Great Chief".
Anyway, OP, for his service and sacrifices depicts a good leader!
    :O

Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

Well, families in general were/are the same kind of community/group...
Anyway, OP, for his service and sacrifices depicts a good figure of a leader! I hope he will get soon a position among major developers at the computer/games industry

  • mmm.. gasp gasp...
maybe "only problem" was not an apropriate expression.
It is a .... theoretical prob that would, maybe, perhaps, indicate that this thing here it is not a "real" community?
    I am asking....

Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

  • If OP did not take on the stance of Benevolent Dictator, then he would be forced into the role of slave to rest of us.

Some things are best kept well away from a committee.

    Cheers OP

  • @Flyi-Si: What are you asking?
    [2]
asking that question: are virtual communities real communities?

Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

  • @ DS: "what amhos describes is despotism is that a fair term for describing this community?"

    Hey guys,
Dont take this discussion on a moral ground... it is sociological... my comments were sociological, not moral.

Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

The feelings of individuals within a virtual community are real.

    the joy of a victory.
    sadness for a friend leaving
    anger of indignity
    ect.

this commonality is defined as a community.

this is the purest sociological definition absent moral considerations.

now, if you are truly saying sociological and moral.

then you expect all hands or all feet.

they all have their own unique contribution to the well-being of the body.

the body obviously being the community of cf.

  • 1. this is no dictatorship
clans are usually asked before decisions are made

    2. im not the only admin of the SWAT-Portal
XL-R8R and me ... we are doing the decisions together

    3. you cant blame a leader that has build up those powers... that has worked for them
its not that i just have taken them away from you
at the moment some of you start to work for such powers in the same hard way i did/do then you might get them

    4. the decisions I do are exactly those decisions YOU dont want to do
everytime i ask the community about making a decision either total chaos breaks out or i get only silence back

    5. those decisions are based on the good for the community... not for the good of individual... thats why from time to time those individuals that dont get what they want start to cause trouble and flamewars
but in the end my decisions have always turned out to be right

    6. if you look around in other gaming communities... the admins always have the last word and history showed that only when there was a strong leader there was a good development

Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

  • U see guys? OP is a great leader. We should think, re-think, how is political leadership being treated in our modern societies, and how human beings, somehow, seek for leadership and if leaders (in personal form) are yet needed in our societies.
