  • Although I am new to PC games I have been a gamer for many years and I have seen many changes since the early days of blocky smudged up graphics and beeps as sound FX the biggest change in recent years is the development of online multiplayer games many will argue that improvements in technology such as improvements in graphics etc but its not the changes online gaming have brought are far more profound its changed how we actually play the games and expanded the scope of playability and diversity.

I have played on X box live for nearly 18 months but I only recently bought a PC and only since then has the concept of an online game community been introduced to me and at first the effect was amazing I have met many people from all over the world with different cultures and ideas good people who are willing to the utmost to help other gamers or share a joke or even to debate politics or world events to discuss films, music or other interests and hobbies the internet is an amazing place.

But the real fact of the matter is for every good person or good deed there is as much bad I have witnessed people filled with spite and anger people who are totally prepared to insult others with or without the slightest provocation I have read about people stealing each others work or hacking each others computers I have spoken to people who have absolutely no respect for other people and are either oblivious or uncaring about the effects their words or actions have on others I have seen and been subject to betrayal, rudeness and bad manners also I have seen people who play games and are so consumed by the though of winning they use cheats or tricks to gain an advantage.

All in all I dismayed by this I have been a student of human nature all my live but still I am disappointed and at this time I am giving serious consideration over the next few days about continuing to play Freelancer or any other online game that has a community

  • You know Dark, for nearly 600 years before the online gaming community, they had the pub, same basic concept, except with beer. You could even lean over and slap the person who was annoying you.

Don't think this new idea will catch on myself

  • Online gaming "communites" are no different than living in a real neighborhood.

When there is trouble on the block , you take care of the trouble, you don't move to a new address first.

Because when people move, before making improvements, it only declines the value of the real-estate.

  • my oppinion:
life is bad, ppl are bad... online and in real life
its a general attitude of the human nature

    but look around
those ppl who found together in their clans and even without those clans
they became friends, there is respect, there is trust and there is an understanding between those ppl that almost got lost in real life

or do you interact with 20-30 friend in real life everyday? have fun with the
m? and also agree to disagree on some topics?

no at least not in such high numbers

in real life you have maybe 10 friends (dont slap me if you have more - its just an example) and here you made 50-100 friends in a short time

and in real life you have one guy that does shit or dislikes you and here you have 5-10 of such ppl

the fact is that YOU have done great work to make friends... earn respect... and do something good

in all those years im leading clans ive met a few thousand players and if i look back then i have to say that from all those players 1% maybe 2% or 3% were real "assholes"
those others were nice ppl... and 97% is not that bad if you ask me

those 97% are worth a try and if you are able to turn just one of them into something more than just a player with an unimportant nickname...if you just make one of them feel important and responsible about something then it was worth all the time

I know that you already did this... the question right now is pretty simple
what is important for you... the 3% that are "stupid motherfuckers" (sorry that i have to use this words) or the other 97%

    It is your decision

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

  • My good friend Dark,

The real world is a mixture of all type of people, online or outside/around you (RL) One thing is for sure, you make friends or gain enemies everywhere. You could find a good guy and a bad guy around the corner or on the online games you play or forums you enter. There is Bad and Good everywhere. You just have to think if it was worthy to go all these trouble at the end. My answer always is, in real life or online, Yes. You will find people that get into your nerve but dont you find them outside the cyberspace?? But then, you also find good people as I did. You were my first friend in FL community m8 and just that, knowing the kind of person you are, it was worth it.

Now lets disuss the difference between online and offline game. Well, I have played a lot of offline games and I can say it was great but playing online have been the greatest so far cause you do real interactions with people, something than the AI of an NPC wont give you ever until they invent the first DATA :D who could process not just statistics, numbers, but emotions and feelings.

Well, at the end is just your decision m8 and I hope that given you a little of my own experience as everybody else did help you to chose the best desicion that works for you.

  • For what it's worth, Freelancer/CrossFire is the very first PC game I ever played that I liked enough to even attempt to play online. Part of my trepidation was the number of reports I got from hardcore gamers about cheats, snobbish clans and hostile/rude players. Well, here at CF, at least, I have been happy to discover that these accounts are the exception, rather than the rule. Had it been otherwise, I would not be here today. I find it amzing still, that people from all around the globe can meet in real time and have fun together, without the burden of economies, politices, race or other divisions. It's this aspect that has begun to reverse my own cynicism about human nature, and increase my desire to help make the world a happier place!

Thanks to all of you for being, and becoming, outstanding examples of what humanity CAN be... :D

  • Ive played loads online games in last 7 years, met only a few idiots.
I still meet a lot of friends from jumpgate/SWG every year, this year we are in Hamburg:)
Im gonna post details soon in case any 1 wants to meet up and drink lots beer:D
There are more decent people than arseholes :)

  • I just got a little fed up of seeing ppl falling out and it sometimes seems its one thing after another but i spent some time relaxing and away from games and i regained a sense of perspective and what u guys say is true most the ppl u meet are good people and i guess that we cant all get along all the time but i wish we can all learn from the recent past and have an understanding that the person at the receiving end of ur message, game chat, post etc is a PERSON and that we all have good days and bad days we get grumpy or tired or have RL problems and take that into account when we speak to others.

  • Hey man, you make me sad when you say that, you was the first person that helped me here on CF (a lot of ppl helped me, and i thank you all a lot!). Not only that, but the first one to speak as i would speak to someone in RL. Now just imagine if guys like you decide to leave communities just because of some minor assholes?

I've a long road in online gamming, 3 or 4 years i'm not shure, and all games free (so you imagine, free games = a lot more ppl from the whole world) And in all these games, in none of them i've met soo much decent ppl.

I can say that for this server as well. On the last server i've played, there were a little more clans than CF, but all of them in war with each other. The only good one i've met there (Bloodragons, some of you may even know them), wich i was member, left the server, so i left as well for the same reason. (ok, maybe a little because i wanted to start my own clan and the admin woudn't let).

My point is, in all online comminities, and also in every place you can make contact with other ppl, there will be good ppl, bad ppl, selfish(sp?) ppl, assholes, and ppl worse than these three together.
