Switching from Normal SP to Open SP

  • I searched around a bit but was unable to find anything pertaining to this. I've been playing through the campaign on singleplayer and started having a lot of crashes during the 3rd crossfire mission (first trip to the sol sector). So I thought I'd try out the open SP option and play around with that for a little bit. I switched to it in the launcher and for some reason (intended or not) I started with zero dollars. Obviously this makes it pretty difficult from the beginning. So I decided to switch back to normal SP and load an old save to see if I could sort out my crash problems. Well now it seems no missions will progress in any of my saves. I can't dock with any jump gates or trade lanes and there are no mission objectives. So my questions are

    1) Did I screw up by trying to switch between open and normal SP?
    2) Am I going to have to reinstall everything to straighten it out?

Was really enjoying the mod and hadn't had any issues up until the sol system missions. I suppose if I move my saves and reinstall everything then move them back I'd fix my problem, just seems odd since the new launcher has the option to switch between the two single player modes that this would cause a problem.

Anyway thanks in advance for any help. Can't wait for 2.0

  • Hello 0drew0,
I never tried switching between Normal and Open SP while playing through CF campaign (so can't answer your main question), but when you use Open SP and the game starts in Sigma-17 with a Starflier and 0 credits, just close your game, double-click "OpenSPFix.cmd" in your Freelancer folder and follow the instructions there.

Hope this helps you a little bit.

  • Thanks for that bit of info, Wanderer. Though I was in New York when I started not Sigma-17 but I'll give that a try and see if it fixes that part of it. Still haven't had the time to do a complete delete and new install, was hoping to avoid that. I don't get a lot of time to play so doing the reinstall process takes up all my time for the day. I'd rather be playing than watching progress bars.

  • Hi 0drew0, here was this questions also before. In all cases ppl which used openSP switch needed for restore campaign game use mod reinstalling. OpenSP should be used only if player do not want to play CF Campaign. Check our FAQ here, there is guide for reinstall and also gude how to install more mods at once or reinstall cf much faster as when you need reinstall all from scratch.

  • Thanks for the explanation Martind. I figured that was the case since one would have to reinstall the mod to switch between the two before the new launcher. But I thought since the option had been added to change it so easily via the launcher that perhaps this was something that had been changed and it was possible to change it on the fly. I'll probably copy my saves to a safe place and mess around in OpenSP until 2.0 comes out then finish up the story. Thanks again.

I did notice the difficulty seemed to be on the (edit)rise before my saves started crashing. I may have screwed up my saves by running from an outcast encounter instead of fighting at the beginning of one mission because they were tearing me up repeatedly . Up until then I thought it was odd how many people I've seen complaining about the difficulty of the mod. I didn't have any trouble getting through the vanilla missions and even the first couple crossfire ones. Good to know a challenge awaits. Now to reinstall.
