Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    This is ten percent luck,
    Twenty percent skill,
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will,
    Five percent pleasure,
    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • It says they will work alongside with the original Austin office that started to work some time ago, when they started renting that big house.

  • question remains... will they start to work on the game now?

  • From what was posted by the bot here on Swat, they already started working on the game a while ago, and using common sense would mean this office will just make SC come faster, (nearly?) double it's speed.

  • Any chance they're just expanding to help with development, so yes this may speed up the process but bare in mind building a game from scratch isn't easy.
They did start work on it some time ago but there seems to be a public assumption in question, how much have they actually done.
Well only the developers can answer that question, so you're better off asking them.
You don't just start modelling, coding and expanding, you need to design and plan out how things will or could be done and who will do it and it helps to set guidelines and dead lines to keep the workflow at a good constant level. Slightly off topic I know but I'm really growing tired of all these questions and doubts, just accept that these things take a lot of time to complete and it will be released when and if its completed.

  • Hmmmmmm, so they only spend time modelling and making the story in a limited engine world, for 8.6 Millions just counting the direct donations ?

  • They use the cryengine3 originally used for Crysis2 and recently Crysis3, I have looked at some of the released footage and despite from some peoples grudges.
Despite who or whom started this project or are working on it, is it not right just to be please there is another space sim game on the horizon.
Or am I completely missing the point that the space sim genre is still damn near mi-neut, yes some hate the guy behind it for so many reasons.
But I am tired of all this bitching and moaning, still holding onto the past won't change the present or future.

  • Well, I'm just waiting to see something before commenting pro or against it. Who knows, maybe as this would be his last chance to do something good/great, maybe he took it seriously and will release a great game, or just deceive the ones who donated the money into releasing a poor game with good graphics. Who knows for sure :D

Maybe he is and I understand where you are coming from but at the same time, I don't have much of a basis for my answer as I never played wing commander or anything along those lines that had his involvement with such games.
The only thing that I look to is there is hopefully another space sim game on the way good or bad its still another space sim game.
I'm not biased although it might seem that way for example I am not a big fan of bf3 multiplayer as they reduced how destructible the environment is but, I enjoyed the main single player campaign a lot more then bfbc2. Lol I don't even think I'm making a good enough point here that dictates enough reasoning to be read or heard.
If Star Civilian is a complete flop fair enough but at least someone tried to make another space sim game.

Well, he didn't really say it would be a "space sim", as it can also be a space sci fi game, without needing to be realistic or something, but anyway, there's no real point in discussing about it as it's just an opinion against another, there is no way to end this except giving up on it, and waiting until there's something visible at SC.

  • I liked Wing Commander (actually a big fan of it who bought new hardware just to play that games in the past). But that was before the Star Citizen crap started.
So what happens if they fail to produce the game? Well 8mio $ lost... not their money actually... its the money of many others.
The 8 mio are already paid to them... they can use them to build the game... or they can use them to buy new sport cars.
Game developers which go the traditional way have publishers/producers which at least control what happens to the money aswell as they control what is being produced. Not here.
What is if almost nobody can play the game (based by the announced system requirements this is actually the case)? What is if they suddenly decide that modding support will be dropped? What is if they decide that the 8mio $ were just to finance their self presentation and the players have to play monthly for the game... or pay with real money every item/ship (it meanwhile pretty much looks like that).
There is nothing that could prevent that... every 2 weeks a new method is presented how they can milk more money out of the players... that is disgusting.

Like i said... I liked wing commander... but my views changed with star citizen.

It would have been better if people would have given this money to well established companies like egosoft which constantly succeeded to produce quality work so that the next game of the X series finally get a Multiplayer.
