  • I suppose I this question has already been addressed but the main problem I have with the current server for crossfire is that I am getting over 200ms of latency at a time and experience significant lag which why I stopped playing it I was curious to know if there would be an option to have a LAN server or the ability to host your own game in the crossfire universe as this would allow some of us here in on the west coast of the U.S(i.e southern california to play this great mod) again I loved playing single player I just would like to get a fleet of battleships with my buddies and go pub stomp some Nomads :) Thank you for you time

  • Hello Dougie,

alas LAN is not possible. Was asked many times before like here: index.php?page=Thread&threadID=29008

  • Hi Diehard,
You mention that the lag and ping is only at some time, not all the time, that can probably be cause of the load on the server, or other players lagging hard, or other issues. The current US players don't have many issues with their ping, normally being right over 100. But still, 200 ping would mean 0.2 seconds, and that should still not be a problem big enough for leaving a game you like, as it only affects how you and other players see eachother, most battle calculations are made on the server directly, so ping would not matter that much.

Anyway, indeed, no client side Crossfire can hold a LAN server because this huge mod needs some support files, lag and other issue reducer kits, and such things for this server to work, a thing players can't do properly enough for a stable LAN server. So indeed it's not possible with just Crossfire.

  • I understand that but if you already have server up and running doesent that preclude that you all still have the necessary files to host the server, I mean I have a pretty good internet connection running 100mbps per sec and a Hex core I7 running 16mbs of ram I think I could host a game, or two and I am sure others have as well I hear you on the lag issue and I will still play the game I was just curious as to how it works between you hosting the server you currently have and me getting the files from you to host my own again I am not trying to be difficult I just want to learn a little more about the problem with LAN hosting

  • In any way, getting such files and permissions is only possible from OP, (full account name of SWAT_OP-R8R ).

This is pretty much all you will get/see from people (no matter Moderator, Developer or Super Moderators), OP is the only admin and original creator of this mod, quite a bunch of years ago.

    Anyway, nice connection :3

  • You need to look at your NIC settings and how your router is filtered, that would assist you tremendously.
