Problem with SHSCopyFile

  • Okay I installed two versions of crossfire: 1.82 and 1.9. I got 1.9 to go all the way through and activate using FLMM only once. Now I'm getting this odd error .

    Error: SHCopyFile failed ('C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\resources.dll.flmmbak' to 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\_resources.dll')

Its keeping me from activating the mod and running the game which frustrating. I am unsure if changing my setting before loading up are at fault. Being precise the options where you can change Juni's look or what color particles you want. Because 1.82 kept minimizing and then crash / shutting down me did I install 1.9. Not sure if I need to uninstall this as well.

The following was done though just in case. Erasing of all saved game files, save those that have been done to crossfire. The reinstalled fresh with the unofficial freelancer 1.4 patch put into the directory. It ran with this w/o any issue. Current version of FLMM is 1.31 per recommendations. It is only the 1.9 that is selected.

Any and all help will be appreciated. :)

  • i also have had this problem on occasion. the only way that i overcame it was to uninstall all references to FL the FLMM, and any game files.

then do a clean install of 1st, Freelancer plus your no CD patch, 2nd FLMM, 3rd the 1.9 mod then finally activate the mod. it is a pain having to go through everything again, but in the end when the mod works it is well worth it.

hope all goes well for you, please let us know how you get on.

    cheers

Such prob happen when are files "write protected" or/and are not used "run as administrator.

Jeice28: suggestion: do fresh FL install, REMOVE "read only attribute" from all files and whole FL folder and run every installation and activation as system administrator. Such way you should be without problems.

  • That seemed to do it!

Edited once, last by Jeice28: Okay this same error has popped up again... but this time what I did was deactivated the mod. I left active following the advice given and had no issues. Did not need a CD patch as I have the game CD. Ran it as Administrator too and and still the same issue... I think we have a problem. Should I try disabling UAC a bit? ().

  • You can't play with "Deactivating" the mod, that won't work as it's not capable of restoring everything that was edited, as CF even scratches FL's engine itself. That's why it only works once.

Every time you want to change mods or such, you have to Uninstall everything related, and installing again, on a clean Freelancer install.

Or you can have 2 Freelancer installs, each one with a different Mod on them. But Crossfire will never simply "Deactivate".
