Version 1.82 is no longer supported. If you want use it, you need assure that launcher DO NOT UPDATE! mod files. Updates are for version 1.9 and willl corupt any 1.82 cf mod installation.
You need reinstal 1.82 (completelly from fresh install FL), or give another try for 1.9 from this portal or moddb using firefox (build in download manager) or any other download manager.
download flashget and then download CF 1.9
You can try it, but I personally suggest replay SP from vanilla start .... in 1.9 is many things looking much better and updated.
If it was a save from before 1.8, like, 1.7, it won't work at all.
If it was from 1.8, and it was a capital ship or something like that, it won't work either (most probable), any ship or equipment that got edited heavely will result in a crash when loading that character, from that Save file.
Coincidentally I tried restarting the SP campain yesterday 
But I cheat the parts where you have to level up on yourself...
