  • This is how Hollywood movies are born:

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

    This is ten percent luck,
    Twenty percent skill,
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will,
    Five percent pleasure,
    Fifty percent pain,
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

  • Not many people can make a blockbuster based on an abstract board game. The whole idea may seem stupid, but those who can overcome stereotypes deserve a piece of respect, I think...

If you've seen this movie, you will actually see that it IS a battleship game on a board, when they can't use their radar, they clearly make the game board, in squares over the sea, and fire on each square to hit the alien battleships... lol

I just made the relation between the movie and the board game now... makes full sense ! ^^

Yet I enjoyed the coolness of that movie...

  • They make such shit movies , cuz they are running out of ideas and wondering what to create so the actors won't stay without a job. Battleship is nice only by the effects, but the script sucks really badly and the script is actually what matters in a movie.

If they want a successful movie, Hollywood should concentrate on creating something new and creative with its nice script. If the scrip sucks and only the effects are nice, then there's no point of watching it.

Battleship has so many offshoots that I won't even comment.

  • correct

the last movie ive seen and actually liked was john carter
more fiction than science in that movie but it was done in a pretty cool way
and except a few details it was a nice movie based on the novels

  • Xbox 360 Battleship
This is really hard to comment...

Crisis: a good plot is compulsory for books, but films can be attractive just by visual effects. :) When I was a child I could hardly make out what Star Wars were about, but watched them on one breath.

John Carter was great indeed, now waiting for Prometheus.

  • Yeah, everyone likes the effects, but they want to see something meaningful in a movie, not just some shootings , flying and such.

For example, there's a russian book that's based on a sci-fi story that some russian team went somewhere in Africa and what they found was something they never seen before. One of the team got affected by it and he achieved some special powers. Then he interfeared in some inter-galactic war , protecting the innocents across the Universe and etc. If Hollywood buy the rights, that would be one hell of a movie , or a serial. Not the shits that they are doing nowadays. Or just the russians do a movie/serial from it ... whatever.

And yeah , I also liked John Carter. It could have been better though, but still , it's a good one.

  • I have no idea of that story, but by what you said, it's a plagiary of other stories.

Like the fantastic 4, at least they get their powers from a galactic anomaly not something in Africa where it's impossible that we haven't discovered it until now.
Hulk, Spiderman and most heroes get their powers "discovering" something, then protect the innocent :P

  • You know what movie will be coming out next? "Monopoly"!! (and this is just a jab at Hollywood, but who knows it could very well happen)
Though how they will make a movie out of that....ohhh, I know! It's gonna be about some greedy guy who robs banks and then buys the town all while running from the cops and the people he swindled...(or something like that :P )

  • Yeah, but no worries.....the movie gods (Hollywood) are too high and mighty to look upon the forums of us lowly commoners....:D

And yes it would be a waste of resources :P

  • That post on this forum is already copied by the google (and other systems) bots.

Those hollywood gods have to get their inspiration from somewhere, no matter where :P But they make it theirs, so don't expect awards for having a "good" idea.

  • Oh well, at least when a crappy movie called "Monopoly" comes out no one but you guys on the forum will know who came up with the idea! :D

  • For sure it wasn't you.

It always is some famous dude in Hollywood :P

    well

Actually you copied the idea from Battleship movie  So it's their idea anyway.

  • So true! :D I'm soooooooo glad I'm not helping give birth to a crappy movie! :P
