  • Hi all I'm new here, but I'm a great fan of Freelancer.

I'd like to start off by saying I played the original FL game twice in one year just because, it was that awesome to me. After that I logged on to some of the old servers, but quickly lost interest and went onto other things. Then while in the forum of another community "Star Wars: Jedi Academy" I heard someone mention FL again and checked it out for a third time, and low and behold I fond s@#t loads of mods that I could ad to the original to expand the game play. After reading Crossfire It sounded the best route to start with and POOF! here I am. Kudos to you all for rekindling my FL experience..Great Mod.

Now to the question at hand: If this is in the incorrect spot I apologize, and I searched your forum for answers and found none even close to my problem.
If I had to click back 12 pages first a more direct link would be appreciated.

PROBLEM: I'm at the mission where I have to go through the Sloviskaya (or something to that extent) and from there through the Gurm system, after going through the jump gate I head to another jump gate that's really far away. Now although some parts of this game are much harder then the original after giving it my all serveral times I always made it through, i'm no cry baby for pain and getting blown to bits 80 times to complete a mission is a part of life I know, but the big beetle looking ships in Gurm are nearly impossible for me to beat, the closes I'v made it to the jump gate was a little over halfway tops and that's at least 10 times.

I'm flying a Bastard with top rated Class 10 guns, 1265xx Hull, Class 10 Advanced Sheilds, Plus Shield regenerator and Class 10 Hull strength that cost me $9,999,999.
I've fought, ran, fought and ran, counter measured and mined my way as far as I could to my destination, but at last I failed.

I guess my question is, is there a better ship that I need, to complete this part of the mission, did everyone who played this game die with in second each and every time like I'm doing. It seems no amount of dodging or fighting gets me closer to my destination, and although I expect to get my butt kicked pointlessly in this game this mission just seems impossibly hard to me.

    Please Help...Once again I love this game and your mod kicks Mega A**. X( :( ?( :) ^^ :D

  • Horus Hetepsekhemui: I understand, you found the general equipment for your ship but wasn't enough.

Meanwhile, welcome to the Crossfire universe and the SWAT Portal ! I hope you can try our server once... it'll help you a lot on anything as there are many players arround, helpful ones ;) But hunters as well !

Notice that a level 10 armor (that double hull strenght thing) will make your ship considerably slower, and you can't dodge much, with mroe stuff you have on your ship, and in your cargo hold, will make your ship slower (realistic).

So keeping it emptier will help, and the guns may be level 10, but they are far from the top guns as the aliens in Inner Core drops you the best ones.( The Inner Core is an entire sectore, like Sirius sector but it's all alien races, no nomads, comes after you finish in Altair in the campaign).

As last, there's a tool (equipment item) that will make your ship lighter, so it'll be faster, called "Weight Reducer MK 1 to 3", they take out some cargo hold space, but are worthy, higher level, takes more space, and makes you lighter and faster, like a light fighter.
Note: You can only use ONE of the armor, or the weight reducer.

  • Thanks for the quick reply, and I remember seeing one of those weight reduction modules once, I just for the life of me can't remember where in this galaxy it was ;), I guess I just have to go through my list of system commodities and equipment.
As far as the hull strength goes what you said (now that I think about it) does make sense, I guess I was going for more strength over speed and a agility, but a rabbit can evade far better then a turtle, and therefore escape it's enemy's. Especially sense I don't exactly have a shell per-say to tuck into.

I'll keep on keep'n on, and make the necessary adjustments to my ship, and I do plan to check out the online game, I just like to finish the single player first. The first time around I found it gave me good practice for the multiplayer, this game my be hard, but in my experience with game play, which is extensive, I've found no sim in the world has ever trumped a human player...ever.

  • I'm not sure that in Bastard case WR help. (and also inertia have now much lower effect as it was on 1.9 release) This ship is simply big and slow. Best what can be done in Altair is jump to Vorkuta and buy there on first base Saracen . This ship is ideal for SP. And one last small detail - with empty storage is ship much more agile (cargo have big effect on ship drifting).

    Edit by
IMPORTANT: You must let your game patch via launcher also for SP to have there last changes (ship movement included)!

  • Do you mean to tell me there is another version that is slightly different then 1.9, because that's what I'm playing now (Maybe I misunderstood you).

Secondly thanks for the heads up, I never considered cargo as a factor, that could really help. I'll go to that system and get more suited ship before continuing on. I really seem to be hooked on ships with great hull strength and good cargo space (The more you can tractor-in the more you can make), unfortunately this combo also means a more sluggish craft. I suppose if I'm going to traffic then get a freighter, if I'm going to fight then get a fighter.

Thanks for the lead, you both have helped me much...Kudos!

  • No, it's the same version but there've been automatic patches to this version. If you let the launcher update the game, once, you'll have those patches.
