Star Trek (1)2 - A sequel?

  • The last Star Trek (11) movie was pretty interesting. By my personal opinion the best Star Trek for ages.

For sure it was not easy to find characters which could "replace" the old Crew but they fit very well. I liked to see that the settings were pretty "oldschool"... everything still had a modern look but everything also looked very "retro". In my eyes a very cool style that mixes the old Star Trek series with the modern Technology that we have today.

The Story of that movie is settled between the very first Star Trek series pilot (which was the only one without Kirk but with Captain Pike instead" and the 2nd official Star Trek series pilot (where suddenly Kirk is the Captain). -> in my eyes a fantastic move to settle the story there and to explain how the "chair switching" happened.

    Small trailer about that movie:

Ok but that was not reason for the Topic.

    Reason is this trailer:

It appears like the next Star Trek movie is going to be a sequel. Also pretty interesting as sequels are known to keep interest high. Any ideas if its really going to happen this way or is this just a cut off scene?

Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

  • i assumed... but hoped different
would have been interesting to see the younger (alternate) nero reappear

  • well what i still found very strange in the star trek 11 - they managed to fly through the worm hole aka black hole and appearing at another time - huh (thought black holes actually consist of heavy matter (e.g. very dense iron ) - so actually there is not a whole when there is iron rotating. Ok lets assume that is sci-fi ;D
Then at the very final of this movie, they created a black hole inside the ship. Now they get totally sucked into it and the ship is destroyed. Sure there is one free way ticked through and the 2nd time you are fragged :D. OK lets assume this is sci-fi ;D Then the Enterprise was already on warp and could not get away from it and the ship was heavily damaged with big scratches all over the ship - they have dropped their power to get away. OK they were at speed greater than light speed and could not escape. They drop their power cores (no they are actually not sucked into the black hole becaue they dont have any power that could leave them on light speed). They could evade it because the explosion had pulled them out of the gravity ;D Ok lets assume this is sci-fi. But the overall killer of this movie was as this nero guy told he wanted to create a romulanien civilisation that could live indepedently from the alliance. Just lets assume that they would have accomplished this - the supernova that destroyed Romulus would have happened anyway and the planet would have been destroyed too. Ok even if they could have created a black hole that saves Romulus the sun would be away and Romulus would very soon be a big heavy ice planet ;D - sci-fi can be so wonderful. But hey Ohura (or how this name is written) was eye candy and so the movie was no fail at all^^

OMG - story based i disliked this movie - but effect based i loved it ;)

  • there is the official theory that inside a singularity (black hole) there might be worm holes, actually it is the only place where worm holes are expected

traveling through a worm hole is bullshit... but thats a common element in scifi
that the ship broke together at the end of the movie was purely coz the singularity formed inside the ship and not infront of it... afterall even planets were sucked in
putting aside that you can not fly through a wormhole... the only thing that really disturbs me that it seems like the blackhole stops to work once it sucked in an object... it sucked in vulcan... but whats with the rest of the system?

Dropping the warp cores to escape (based on the Star Trek technology) actually was not a bad idea. They are nothing but matter-antimatter reactors controlled by dilithium (or in later episodes trilithium which serves as a kind of catalysator). Its similar to our nuclear power. If you have a powerplant you get a certain amount of energy out of it over a long time span. If you put it into a nuke and let it detonate you get 100 or 1000 times more energy in a single explosion.
The ship itself has secondary energy sources for emergency but they lost warp by dropping the primary energy source. Thats where i see the next problem (even if its just a minor one).
The ship was thrown out of the explosion which should not have happened. Matter + Antimatter creates photons so the shockwave was moving with light speed. Without warp the ship could not fly faster than the explosion. Actually it should be caught by the explosion due to inertia.

Next to a few minor physical problems (which is something ppl should simply ignore like in the past 40 years) the movie was cool.
