  • Just wait for Crysis 2 to come out.

a quad core Q9550 with a standard GTX 260 and 4gigs of ram will run it no prob on ultra (if it is below 20 fps just OC it and voila)

all this stupid hype about these nonsene grafic cards.....

OH LOOK I HAVE THE NEWEST GRAFIX CARD ZOMG ITS BIGGER THAN YOURS NUB

  • Mine is jsut 128 Mb, but it's better than those big ones cus it reads more stuff like the FL effects which nearly noone see :D hehehe

  • lol why would you care, there isn't a single game out there that specifically requires one of those graphics card to run smooth

in this case it doesn't matter... any game will run fluently with one of those cardsunless its shitty programmed

  • Let's put it this way - the game runs on everything up from nVidia Riva TNT2 with 32Mb of RAM. Tested. :D

    |DP|Shock · |DP|Shockwave · |DP|Skyfall · |DP|Red.Dwarf

  • Freelancer works even with integrated card (with no card , mounted/added) :D

Crossfire the same, but for a bit of graph, you have to start from 128 :D

  • Heheheheh, I remember my video card when I first got Freelancer, probably got that card back in 2002 or so, I think it was a Geforce 4200 Ti (GF4 series) with like 128 meg DDR framebuffer. I though that card was the $h@t back then, especially for playing Freelancer. Haha! :D:roflmao:

Just to be on the safe side i'm getting a Radeon 5970. Enjoy your Crysis 2 slideshow with a single GTX 260 at Ultra.

  • Awesomeman, you might want to wait and see how the HD 6870(single GPU) fares before you jump on the dual GPU HD 5970, as from the preliminary reports are showing, the 6870 is nearly on par with the 5970!

I suspect since it is a single GPU card, it will be quite cheaper and cooler running as well!

  • Awesome man. No slideshow with the GTX260 dude. The performance of a game is far more than just a graphics card, it's a combination of all the correctly matched parts. Including the processor ( setting affinity too), ram speed, rail speed etc.

Good catch, Arkane. I see that HD 6870 cards are selling for $250-300 USD. It may be a lot to spend on a graphics card for many people, but it is certainly competitively priced for a super-card:

    HD 6870 prices

There are 10 kinds of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who do not.

  • Conclusion
Short and sweet, we can immediately say that the Radeon HD 6870 is a very good supplement in the market. The video card certainly delivers good performance, it is power-efficient, offering low temperatures and it is silent. Best of all, perhaps, a video card in the top class, like this, simply pig was cheap overnight.

First, as last, we must draw up a more general factor. Already have a DirectX 11-based graphics, such as AMD's 5000-series or a card in the 400-series to Nvidia, there is zero reason to upgrade anytime soon. The exception is true if you want more performance, but there is little reason to replace your HD 5850 card with a new HD 6870 card. You already have a good product. The differences for those who already have one thousand pieces of paper into the 5000-series, up to similar cards in the 6-series, is small.

Anyway, today we have taken a closer look at Asus' version of the Radeon HD 6870. With a few exceptions, starting price for these video cards for around 1850 dollars, but is happy to just over 1900 million. Anyway, this is certainly anything but expensive, it is simply a bargain.

The reason is simply performance you get for your money. The low temperature and low power consumption we measure is only further benefits. Performance wise, this is a real gold nut. Overall, this is a faster card than the GTX 470, while performing worse than just chopped 500 Dollar card Radeon HD 5870. For only a few FPS lower performance, you save over 160$ respectively. Nobody can complain about!

It should also be clear that Nvidia has now dumped prices on GTX 470, which AMD says is only a temporary, but the HD 6870 is still a significantly better buy. We will also once again emphasize that both the HD 5870 and HD 5850 will disappear from store shelves within the year, and will be replaced by a range of 6000-series cards.

In short, HD 6870 delivers a lot of performance for little money. Temperatures are low, the noise level is even lower and the power consumption is no kind of concern. AMD has certainly done a good job, we like this!

Personally i think we should wait cos who knows when we have a HD 6990 card on our hands.

  • As well as the CPU roadmap from AMD, the company's graphics business unit ATI had a few things to say to investors at the company's analyst day, and there's some bad news for anyone looking for the company's response to the Nvidia GeForce GTX 580.

According to GPU roadmaps offered to analysts, the ATI Radeon HD 6990 dual-GPU graphics card won't be available until the first quarter of next year. While it's not a major delay, it gives the Nvidia GTX 580, which Nvidia claims is the fastest DirectX 11 card around, time to gain traction in the market place.

The company also confirmed that its ATI Radeon HD 6970 and ATIRadeon HD 6950 are still set for launch in this quarter, although the roadmap doesn't detail a firm date as to when the cards will appear from its board partners.

While the Cayman-based Radeon HD 6970 GPU will give ATI a high-performance competitor to rival Nvidia's "GTX 580" (http://www.bit-tech.net/hardwa…-geforce-gtx-580-review/1), many were hoping to see the Radeon HD 6990 dual-GPU card, previously codenamed Antilles, this year.

The company also used the analyst event to sneak out the codenames for a pair of planned budget-range GPUs, designed to replace the ageing ATI Radeon HD 5770 and Radeon HD 5750 models. Although specifications weren't discussed, the GPUs, codenamed Turks and Caicos, are expected to launch in the first quarter of next year.

Are you disappointed that the dual-GPU Radeon HD 6990 won't be appearing in time for Christmas, or pleased that ATI is taking its time with its response to Nvidia's GTX 580? Share your thoughts.

  • Meh, NVidia's still late to the game, especially with DX11... They have already seceded alot of market share to AMD/ATI over it, particularly the high end where DX11 support is important. As far as the hype of the GTX 580, after the fiasco that is the "Fermi" generation of Nvidia cards, I won't be holding my breath, much less have that kinda of bread for one or have a board that can accept it.

Sad to say most high end graphics cards IMHO these days are nothing but "e-penile measuring sticks" for the either very fanboyish or they very rich.(both with more money than brains most likely) But hey, if you got the money and you want one, go for it I say. 8).
