  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 - 1.5GB - EVGA Superclocked or ATI Radeon HD 5970 - 4GB

    '

    the nvida has:

    '

    Interface PCI Express 2.0 x16 Core Clock 1451 MHz Memory Clock 3800 MHz Memory Type GDDR5 Memory Interface 384-bit DirectX 11 OpenGL 3.2 Port 2 x DVI, 1 x mini HDMI Max Resolution 2560 x 1600 Minimum Power Supply Requirement 750 Watt Power Connector 1 x 6 pin and 1 x 8 pin

    '

    And the ati has:

    '

    Interface PCI Exress 2.1 x16 Core Clock 850 MHz Memory Clock 1000 MHz Memory Type GDDR5 Memory Interface 512-bit (2x 256-bit) DirectX 11 OpenGL 3.2 Port 2 x DVI, 1 x DisplayPort Max Resolution 2560 x 1600 Minimum Power Supply Requirement 750 Watt Power Connector 2 x 6 pin

    '

The ati i twice as expensive but the nvida has more core clock and memory clock ?(

  • lol why would you care, there isn't a single game out there that specifically requires one of those graphics card to run smooth

in this case it doesn't matter... any game will run fluently with one of those cardsunless its shitty programmed

but... Nvidia all the way as it is cheaper

  • I found it here they sell some good stuff but im still confused why the ati is 5-600$ more expensive when the nvida one is cheeper and looks bether in the stats.Gonna throw 2-3 of thoose cards in a pc and u got a monster hehe . http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/Gamer_Paladin_D845http://www.ibuypower.com/

  • Grand, the 5970 is literally two ATI GPUs on one card, it is also the ATI flagship enthusiast card, the best of the best, it currently commands the highest performance and therefore, premium on price. The ATI card also has the wider memory interface, 384-bit vs 512-bit which can make a huge difference in performance. It's framebuffer (2gb x2 = 4gb) is also considerably larger even though it is essentially two cards in one.

Sadly, even in spite of the piggish power demands and high heat output of the Fermi, the 5970 still beats in such demands I suspect, however again you must take into account this card is basically two ATI cards already running Crossfire(intergrated) and it will run as such. Providing you have the right monitors and number of them, you can have a VERY nice Eyefinity setup for Freelancer or whatever else you wanna play on it.

If you can't swing the ATI card, by all means go for the Nvidia, I've used both over the past years and each will serve you well, just make sure you have proper cooling for your case and a power supply to meet AND exceed the demanding needs of these modern, high-end video cards.

  • Ye sure the 5970 may be a awsome card but it is one thing im confused abbout the nvidia card have almost 3000 more memory clock what difference does that make on such a high scale?

  • just get the nvidia already, its cheaper and there is no game out yet that needs a 500€ card to run smoothly un everything maxed out >_< (nor will there be one in a year)

As I explained in my previous post Grand, you can clock memory high to a degree, but if it's only able to get a certain amount of that bandwidth(again, 384-bit bus vs. 512-bit bus) to the GPU itself, at some point it doesn't matter how high you clock it, it's still getting less data in comparison to the card with the wider bus. Sure speed helps, but bandwidth is always king. The fact the 5970 is literally two cards as one running in Crossfire, makes a world of difference too.

    Clear as mud? ;) 8)

  • well ye u can get 2 gtx 480 in SLI together for the same price as a 5970 i bet the 2 480 is bether than the 5970's crossfire format

  • Well, at that price plateau Grand, you could stomp the 480GTXs with two 5970s working in quad Crossfire, but honestly it doesn't matter anymore because you spending near a grand(har har) on video cards already.

Bottom line: Get the best performing card for the price you can afford. If you're more biased or loyal to one brand or another then your choice is simple, the end. ;) 8)

  • well it is true that ati have more muscle but the nvida just looks bether in-game

For multiple monitors the Ati's muscle wil be best

    '

And the nvidia is a little slower on GPU so it cant take that much but the collor is bether
